Flames 5, Elrosa 4

Owen Sunderman’s two-out double in the bottom of the ninth scored pinch runner Matt Torberg with the winning run as Farming defeated visiting Elrosa in a dramatic 5-4 win.

Farming trailed in this one 4-0 early but put up three big runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Ethan Navrital singled and went to third on a double by Adam Winkels.  Ethan Borgerding was hit by a pitch, loading the sacks.  Singles by Robert Schleper, Josh Becker, and Tylor Schroeder brought home the three runs for the Flames.

Both teams put up goosehead until the bottom of the ninth.  Adam led off with a single, and Cody Fourre sacrificed him to second.  After Robert flew out for the second out, Josh hit a spinner down the first base line that eluded the first baseman, scoring Adam with the tying run.  Matt came in to pinch run for Josh, and Tylor sent him to second with a walk.  That set the stage for Owen’s clutch hit.

Tylor started and had a solid outing, going five innings and giving up four runs on eight hits.  Elrosa had four infield singles early, and hit only a couple of balls hard off of Ty.  Adam relieved and got the win, throwing four scoreless innings.  He was aided by a diving catch by centerfielder Will Mergen, who then doubled up an Elrosa runner from second to end the top of the seventh inning.

Farming improves to 3-1 on the SCL season, and has already equaled its win total for all of the 2023 season!
