Sunday Social: June 3 – Issue No. 4

Posted on June 4, 2012 by CJ Siewert

Welcome the fourth issue of Sunday Social. It was a perfect weekend for baseball across the State and that boded well for a number of invitational tournaments.

The Sobieski Skis won the Stearns County Classic in convincing fashion, defeating Regal 16-2. Joey Hanowksi (2B, RBI) and Andrew Gurbada (3 RBI) each had three hits at Lake Henry. Nate Olson struck out six and allowed two hits in five innings for the win. Andrew Lange (2B), Collin Eckman (4 RBI) and Tyler Jendro all had two hits for the Skis.

In the third place game, Midway defeated Lake Henry 6-5. Jake Lund went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run to lead the Snurdbirds and seal Lake Henry’s fate. Brent Lieser went 2-for-3 for the Lakers.

In Sartell at the 6th Annual Omann Insurance Invite, Reggie Litke allowed five hits without an earned run as Lastrup won the title 12-5 over Isanti. Dustin Schmaltz went 5-for-11 with three doubles and five RBI to earn the tournament MVP award.

Nisswa crushed Detroit Lakes 15-3 in the third place game. Winsted defeated the Sartell Muskies in the fifth-place game and the St. Stephen Steves salvaged a seventh place finish with a 3-0 win against Springfield.

The New Prague Orioles hosted their New Prague Invite this past weekend and claimed the title 9-2 over the Jordan Brewers. The Winona Chiefs defeated the Arlington A’s 3-0 in the third place game, while the Minneapolis Cobras won the consolation title 9-2 over the St. Benedict Saints.

In Dundas, the Dukes hosted the Dundas Invitational and the Minnetonka Millers topped the host team 5-2 for the championship.

Notes:

– Joe Magee of the Stewartville-Racine Sharks has homered in four straight games he’s played in.

– Mitch Wurm of the Maple Lake Lakers threw the 6th no-hitter of the 2012 MBA season in a 2-0 win over Buffalo on Saturday.

As always, keep posting scores to your social media pages and we’ll share them here each Sunday. Also spread the word to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
