Don Sauter, long time baseball coach at Sibley East High School, passed away suddenly at his home on January 15. Sauter became the coach at Arlington-Green Isle in 1979 and continued as head coach when they consolidated with Gaylord to become Sibley East High School and coached until 2000. In 22 seasons his teams compiled a record of 346-138 for a winning percentage of .715. Sibley East won state championships in 1994 and 1998.

At the amateur level, Don played his entire career for the Green Isle Irish (1972-1989). Don helped lead the Irish to seven state tourney berths in that time. He was named the MVP of the Crow River League in 1975 and 1988. As a draftee for Hamburg, Don was named to the MBA All-Tourney team in 1975.

Don was also known around southern Minnesota as a long time umpire at the town team level. He was inducted into Minnesota State High School League Coaches Hall of Fame last October.

Visitation for Don is Friday, January 18 from 4-8 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington. Funeral Service will be on January 19 at 1 pm at Sibley East High School.
