November 17, 2018 Meeting Minutes

EASTSIDE VFW– ST. CLOUD, MN

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2018 

Meeting called to order by President Richter at 10:00 AM 

Roll call showed all Directors present with the exception of Schleper 

Motion Brennan, seconded Lemke, carried to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. 

There were 44 dedicated baseball people in attendance. 

The Calendar of Events was discussed.  Motion Lemke, seconded Kreger, carried to approve the calendar of events for 2019.  The official MBA calendar will be posted on the MBA Website. 

Tournament Chairpersons Joe Schleper and Jeff Janzen – Delano, Casey Pack – Maple Lake were present to give an update on the details of their respective fields and work that was completed this fall, as well as, discuss projects for next spring in preparation for the 2019 State Tournament.  All sites are busy with some major improvements to each of their respective ballparks.  All sites also said that they still have things to complete, but they feel that they are on schedule. 

Teams petitioning to Class C: 

Bill Harrison, representing Big Lake petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Forsman, second Nagel, carried 8-0. 

Joe Grote, representing Faribault petitioned to remain Class C – Motion Roufs, second Kreger, carried 8-0. 

Brian Hartmann, representing Green Isle petitioned to remain Class C – Motion Nagel, second Lemke, carried 8-0. 

Shawn Matson, representing Hastings petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Forsman, second Roufs, carried 8-0. 

James Brubaker, representing Hibbing petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Nagel, second Brennan, carried 8-0. 

Steve Allen, representing Isanti petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Nagel, second Forsman, carried 6-2 (Roufs & Hartmann voting no). 

Joe Kounkel, representing Monticello petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Lemke, second Kreger, carried 6-2 (Roufs & Hartmann voting no). 

Todd Bergstrom, representing New Market petitioned to remain Class C – Motion Kreger, second Forsman, carried 8-0. 

Joe Nix, Matt Odegaard and Chris Odegaard, representing Plato petitioned to remain Class C – Motion Forsman, second Lemke, carried 8-0. 

Ben Poidinger, representing Ramsey petitioned to move from Class B to Class C – Motion Forsman, second Nagel, carried 8-0. 

Luxemburg, Rogers, and Rochester Road Runners were unable to be present so they were tabled until the December 29th meeting where they will be required to attend to petition and present their individual case. 

Motion Forsman, second Kreger, carried 8-0 to approve Sean O’Neil as the new Region 3 Commissioner. 

The Class B Sections will be announced at the MBA December meeting. 

Motion Kreger, second Brennan, carried 8-0 to approve Aaron Johnson Heritage Rule request to return to Red Wing. 

The Board reviewed and made changes to the 2019 MBA Handbook.  Motion by Roufs, second Lemke, carried 8-0 to approve all the changes made. 

John Patnode, Princeton co-manager requested reinstatement of the Princeton team for the 2019 season.  Motion Forsman, second Roufs, carried 8-0 to reinstate Princeton for the 2019 season. 

New Business: 

Kelly McMonigle, Moorhead, requested that the Board consider changing playing times for the Class B teams for the 2019 State Tournament.  After a short discussion, the Board asked Kelly to submit recommendations to review at the December 29th meeting.  Class B sections will be finalized at the December meeting. 

Mike Sticha presented a proposal to increase Umpire pay for the State Tournament for the next five years.  The Board tabled this until the December meeting for review. 

Just a reminder to all teams; a player cannot be signed to a contract before March 15th, or after June 30th

Being no further business, motion Lemke, seconded Forsman, carried 8-0, to adjourn at 2:07 pm 

Next meeting of the MBA will be Saturday, December 29th, 2018 at Unhinged Pizza in Glencoe, MN at 11:00 AM
