St. Martin presented an Appeal challenging the Stearns County League’s decision to not allow Kurt Schlangen to play due to question on residency.

Representing St. Martin were Steve Schlangen, President of the St. Martin Baseball Association, Carl Lieser, Team Manager and Fred Schlangen, father of Kurt Schlangen.  Representing the Stearns County League were Shawn Schoenberg, Grant Schoenberg and Tom Lugwig.  Steve Schlangen presented the details of their challenge and felt strongly that Kurt Schlangen should be allowed to play for St. Martin.  Grant Schoenberg then reviewed the two meetings that took place, the first where Kurt was approved and then after reviewing details presented by Brad Mergen, a special league meeting took place to discuss the evidence stating that Kurt was not living at his parent’s home.  He then stated the league’s decision, while creating controversy, was to overturn the previous vote and stated that Kurt Schlangen was not eligible due to the Stearns County by-laws and rules regarding residency.  After a lengthy discussion and the MBA Board asking numerous questions, Vice President Roufs made a motion, seconded by Mike Barry to back the league’s decision based on the Stearns County residency rule.  In addition, Roufs then as part of his motion, moved to allow Kurt Schlangen to play for St. Martin under the Hometown/Heritage Rule. If he wishes to play for any other team within the MBA, he must re-establish his residency to comply with the MBA rule on residency.

Motion carried 8-0 to allow Kurt Schlangen to play for St. Martin in 2014
