KNSI’s Central Minnesota Town Ball Roundup (Aug. 25-27)

Back for a fourth season at KNSI (99.9 FM/103.3 FM/1450 AM) with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. Including not only game summaries, but upcoming schedules, league standings. Tournament summaries and an occasional special interest feature. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South and Stearns County teams throughout their league playoffs, regional and state tourney games. You can follow all games live, as they progress they the final weekend, thru the State Championships.

LAKEWOOD LEAGUE/REGIONAL 2B TEAMS

MIELSVILLE MUDHENS 8 BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 3 (8/25 @ Green Isle)

The Saints were defeated by their Region 1B foe, the Mudhens of the Classic Cannon Valley League. A couple of miscues and a couple of timely hits put them down early, but they did come back to make it a one run game going into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Mudhens then lived up to their No. 1 seed, as they put a crooked number on the scored board, to take a commanding lead.  The Saints, Dominic Austing started on the mound, he threw 3 innings, he gave up 4 hits, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Brad Haag threw 3 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up 6 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Nick Maiers threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up one hit and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Steven Neutzling went 1-4 with a big 2 run home run and Jason Kotschevar went 1-4 with a big double for a RBI, to bring them with in one run. Dominic Austing went 2-3 and he earned a walk and Nick Maiers went 1-4 and he scored a run. Brian Minks went 1-4 and he scored a run and Jack Schramel and Ryan Schneider both earned walks and Tom Imholte had a stolen base.

The Mudhens, Steve Maher started on the mound, he threw 6 innings to earn the win, he gave up 5 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Shannon Ahern, a Husky from St. Cloud State, threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up one hit, issued one walk and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Sebastain-Holte-Marcera had a good game, he went 2-4 with a RBI and Nate Hammes went 2-2 with 2 RBI’s, a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run. Pat Kelley went 1-4 with a double for a RBI, he had 2 stolen bases and he scored 2 runs and Andrew Werener went 1-4 with a RBI. Brian Sprout went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and Deryk Marks went 2-5 with two big doubles and he scored a run. Matt Van Der Bosch went 1-4, he earned a walk and he scored 3 runs and Jory Werner went 1-4 and he scored a run.

The Saints will play in the double elimination portion of the state tournament. On Friday Sept. 1 the Saints will take on the Chaska Cubs at Green Isle at 5 p.m. If they do defeat the Cubs, they will take on their regional rivals the Moorhead Brewers immediately after the completion of that game.

MOORHEAD BREWERS 3 BROOKLYN PARK NORSEMEN (8/25 @ Hamburg)

The Brewers defeated their state tournament foe the Norsemen of the Metro Minny League and of Region 4B. It took ten innings, the veteran lefty Mike Peschel had a walk off home run for the big win. David Ernst started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, he scattered 10 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Kyle Kingsley threw 3 innings in relief to earn the win, he gave up 2 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Mike Peschel went 2-5 with his big timely home run and Kaleb Binstock went 2-3, he earned a walk, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Spencer Flaten went 1-4 with a sacrifice bunt and Matt Oye went 1-4. Derek Dormanen was credited with a RBI on a fielders choice, Micheal Leach had a pinch hit single. Tanner Adam earned a walk and he scored a run and Kory Wolden was hit by a pitch.

The Norsmen’s, Justin Clark started on the mound, he threw 6 2/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Ben Christofferson threw 2 2/3 innings in relief, he was the pitcher of record, he gave up 2 hits, one home run and he recorded one strikeout. Sam Bozyk went 2-5 with a triple for a RBI and Noah Bouley went 3-5 with a stolen base.  A. J. Lyons went 1-4 with a RBI and he earned a walk and Riley Johnson went 2-5, one stolen base and he scored a run. Aaron Kloeppner went 2-3 and Brandon Rushmeyer went 1-3 and he earned a walk. Tony Zajac went 1-4 and Justin Ledin earned a pair of walks and he scored a run.

CHANHASSEN RED BIRDS 9 MOORHEAD BREWERS 5 (8/27 @ Green Isle)

The Brewers were defeated by the Red Birds of the River Valley League and of Region 2B, backed by 15 hits, including 4 doubles and a home run. Adrian Turner started on the mound for the Red Birds, he threw 6 innings to earn the win. He gave up 8 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. John Eischens threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up one hit and he issued one walk and Miles Nablo, a Husky from St. Cloud State, threw one inning in relief, he gave up one hit and he issued one walk. Garret Fischer had a very good game, he went 2-5 with a two-run home run and Zach Hoffman, had a good game, a former Husky went 2-5 with 2 doubles, for one RBI and he scored 2 runs. Adrian Turner had a good day at the plate, he went 3-4 with a double for 2 RBIs and he scored a run. Justin Anderson had an awesome day, he went 4-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Derek Smith went 2-4 and he scored a run, Shawn Riesgraf went 1-4 for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Brandon Arnold went 1-3, he earned a walk, one stolen base and he scored 2 runs.

The Brewers, Tanner Dahl, started on the mound, he was the pitcher of record. He gave up 9 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 7 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Kyle Kingsley threw 4 innings in relief, he gave up 6 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded one strikeout. Kory Wolden went 2-3 with a 2 run home run for 2 RBI’s and Kaleb Binstock went 2-3 with a home run and he earned a walk. Tanner Adam went 1-4 with a 2 run home run and Mike Peschel went 2-4. Spencer Flaten went 1-3 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Jeremy Peschel went 1-3, Chris Clemenson earned a walk and he was hit by a pitch and Drerek Dormanen earned a walk.

The Brewers will continue play in the Class B State tournament in the double elimination portion, as they will take on the winner of the Beaudreaus Saints/Chaska Cubs game on Friday Sept. 1 at Green Isle at 7:30 p.m. If they win, they will play again on Sunday Sept. 3 at Green Isle at 5 p.m.

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE (Region 11C Teams)

KIMBALL EXPRESS 5 NEW MARKET MUSKIES 3 (8/27 @ Norwood)

The Express of the Central Valley League defeated their foes from the DRS League and Region 3C the Muskies. They were led by a very good game by Scott Marquardt at the plate and the field. The Express’s Ben Johnson started on the mound, he threw 7 1/3 impressive innings, to hold a good hitting team in check. He gave up just 2 hits, issued 5 walks, and he recorded 7 strikeouts, to earn the win. Lefty Zach Dingmann threw 1 2/3 innings in relief to earned the save, he gave up 3 hits and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Including a strikeout for the last out of the game, leaving the tying run stranded at second base. The Express got some great timely hits, led by Scott Marquardt. He went 3-4 with a triple for a big RBI and he scored 2 runs. Adam Beyer went 1-4 for a RBI and Jordan Joseph had a big game at shortstop and at the plate, he went 2-3 for a RBI, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Brooks Marquardt went 1-3 and he scored a run, Austin Ruehle went 1-4 and he scored a run, Ben Johnson was credited with a RBI and Zach Sufka earned a walk.

The Muskies, Nate Rost started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he gave up 7 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 8 strikeouts. Andy Hinkemeyer, a Sauk Rapids High School graduate, went 1-4 with a big 2 run home run in the top of the 9th inning. Scott Lyden went 2-4 and he scored a run and Steve McGuiggan went 1-3 with a double, a stolen base and he earned a walk. Nate Rost went 1-2, he earned a walk, was hit by a pitch, he two stolen bases and he scored a run. Nick Rost was credited with a RBI, Tyler Bergstrom earned a pair of walks and Kyle Bergstrom earned a walk.

This was a big win for the Express, as they will now continue to play Labor Day weekend in the Sweet 16! They will play the Fergus Falls Hurricanes from the Country Side League and Region 16A on Saturday Sept. 2 at Norwood at 1:30 p.m.  If they do win they will play on Sunday Sept. 3 at Norwood at 11 a.m.

RAYMOND ROCKETS 7 BUCKMAN BILLYGOATS 0 (8/26 @ Hamburg)

The Rockets the defending State Class C Champions of  the Corn Belt League and Region 11C defeated the Billygoats of the Victory League and Region 8C. Backed by a couple of big home runs and the pitching of lefty Alex Lotthammer. He started on the mound for the Rockets, he threw 7 innings, he scattered 4 hits, issued a pair of walks and he recorded 10 strikeouts. Cole Christianson was impressive in relief, he threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Tyler Steen had a big day, he went 2-4 with home run for 2 big RBI’s, two stolen bases and he earned a walk. Kyle Knott went the yard also, he was 1-5 and Cal Kosmiskas went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Justin Koenen went 1-4 for a RBI, he scored a run and he had a stolen base. Mike Jeseritz went 2-5 with a stolen base, Eric Hulterstrum went 1-4 and he scored a run, John Swatzky went 1-3, Brett Swanson had a sacrifice fly and a stolen base and Jordan Smith earned a walk.

The Billygoats, Jeremy Monson started on the mound, he threw 6 2/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Chad Weiss a draftee from the Lastrup Lakers, threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Zach Lanners went 2-4, Ben Boser went 1-3 and he earned a walk and a stolen base and Noah Boser went 1-4 and a stolen base. Travis Kahl went 1-4 with a stolen base, Peter Suska went 1-1 with a pinch hit single, Matt Kummet earned a walk and Matt Tautges earned a walk.

The Rockets will now take on the Faribault Lakers of DRS League and Region 3C on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Norwood at 7:30. If they do win they will play again on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Hamburg at 1:30 p.m.

SAUK VALLEY LEAGUE (Region 1C Teams)

SARTELL MUSKIES 11 HOWARD LAKE ORPHANS 7 (8/27 @ Hamburg)

The Muskies of the Sauk Valley League and Region 1C defeated the Orphans of the North Star League and Region 12C. The Muskies were backed by 13 hits including a home run and a double. Lefty David Deminsky started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he scattered 4 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 5 runs, three were earned and he recorded 10 strikeouts. The game got a little unsettled thru the 5th inning, when the Muskies made a couple of errors. The Muskies right hander, Adam Wenker entered the game in the 6th inning, he was able to get the Muskies back on the game, he threw 4 innings to earn the win. He gave up 3 hits, surrendered a pair of runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. The Muskies got two runs in the first inning with a big 2 run homer. Tim Burns, went 2-5 with his 2 run homer and a run scoring single later in the game, for three big RBI and he scored a run. Cody Partch had a good game as he went 3-4 with 3 big RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored 3 runs. Jace Otto went 2-5 with a booming double to the fence for a RBI and he scored a run. Lefty Johnny Schumer had a big game, he went 3-4 for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Jake Sweeter went 2-5 and he scored 2 runs, he scored from first on a Cody Partch single. Adam Schellinger went 1-5 with a stolen base and he scored a run, Brian Schellinger earned a walk, a stolen base and he scored a run, Jonah Nebosis was credited with a RBI and Braeden Dykuizen was hit by a pitch.

The Orphans, Mike Dockendorf started on the mound, he threw 3 innings, he gave up 5 hits and he surrendered 3 runs. Ben Burrell threw 2 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Tyler Hanson threw 1 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, issued one walk and he surrendered 3 runs. Jared Koch threw one inning in relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued a pair of walks, he surrendered 2 runs and he recorded one strikeout. Zach Kuefler had a good game, he went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Tom Burrell went 1-3 with a double and a stolen base and Steve Bobrowske went 1-1 with a big pinch hit single to score 2 runs. Brett Ahsenmacher went 1-5, he had a stolen base and he scored a run and Steve Boger earned a walk, he took two for the team, he was hit twice by a pitch, he had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Jake Gruenhagen earned a walk, 2 stolen bases and he scored a run and Matt Streich was credited with a RBI. Ben Burrell went 1-1, Tony Borrell and Corey Dehn both scored runs.

The Muskies will now move on to the Sweet 16 to play on Labor Day weekend. They will play the Bemidji Blue Ox of the North West Border League and Region 10A on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Green Isle at 11 a.m. If they win they will play on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Norwood at 11 a.m. against the winner of Union Hill and Carver.

STEARNS COUNTY LEAGUE (Region 15C Teams)

LAKE HENRY LAKERS 7 YOUNG AMERICA CARDINALS 1 (8/26 @ Hamburg)

The Lakers of the Stearns County League had a big win over the Cardinals of the Crow River Valley League and Region 7C. Backed by 15 hits by some very timely hitting by the Lakers. Draftee from the Farming Flames, lefty Brad Mergen started on the mound, he threw 4 2/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up 6 hits, issued 6 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded one strikeout. Draftee from the New London-Spicer Twins, Patrick Courtney threw 2 2/3 innings, he gave up one hit, issued a pair of walks and he recorded a strikeout. Jason Kampsen threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he recorded a strikeout. Jason Kampsen went 2-5 with 2 big RBI’s and he scored a run, Shane Kampsen went 2-4, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Josh Kampsen had a sacrifice for a RBI and he was hit by a pitch. Weston Brinkman had a big game, he went 2-3 for a RBI, he was hit by a pitch, he had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Aaron Savelkoul had a good game, he went 3-5 with a double and he scored a run. Mathew Quade had a good game, as he went 3-5 for a RBI and he scored a run. Ryan Wuertz went 2-4 for a RBI and he scored a run and Grant Ludwig went 1-4 for a RBI and he scored a run.

The Cardinals, Isaac Hormann started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 8 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Hayden Meyer threw 1/3 of an inning, he gave up 2 hits and he issued a walk. Troy Kohls threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 4 hits and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Dillon Whittaker a draftee from the Waconia Lakers threw 2/3 of an inning in relief, he gave up one hit and he recorded one strikeout. Kyle Horstmann went 2-4 with a RBI and Roch Whittaker went 1-2, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Cole Peters went 1-3 and he earned a walk and Jon Werner went 1-3 and he earned a walk. Nik Franck went 1-2 and he earned a walk and Matt Mann went 1-4.

The Lakers will be playing in the Sweet 16 this coming Labor Day weekend against Buffalo Bulldogs of the North Star League form Region 12C. On Saturday, Sept 2 at Norwood at 11 a.m., if they win they will play the winner of the Raymond Rockets/Faribault Lakers game on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Hamburg at 1:30 p.m.

ELROSA SAINTS 7 HAMPTON CARDINALS 6 (13 In.) (8/24/25 @ Norwood)

The Saints defeated the Cardinals of the Classic Cannon Valley League and Region 4C in a 13-inning marathon that was completed on Saturday after going late on Friday evening. It was called because of the rain and lightning. The Saints Jim Thull, a draftee from the New Munich Silverstreaks, started on the mound; he threw 4 innings. He gave up 4 hits, issued a pair ,of walks and he surrendered 2 runs. Veteran Aaron Vogt threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up 7 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Ethan Vogt threw 6 innings in relief to earn the win, he gave up just one hit, issued 4 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 3 strikeouts.  Eight players collected hits for the Saints, Ethan Vogt went 1-5 with a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI’s and Cody Eichens went 1-4 with a RBI, he earned a pair of walks, he was hit by a pitch and he scored one run. Matt Middendorf went 1-4, he earned two walks, he had two stolen bases, he was hit by a pitch and he scored 2 runs. James Kuefler went 2-4 and he earned 3 walks and Pat Illies went 1-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Matt Schmitz went 1-5, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Austin Hadley went 1-6 and he scored 2 runs. Player/manager A. J. Hadley was credited with a RBI by way of a fielders choice and Kevin Kuefler went 1-6.  After the Saints loaded the bases, Cody Eichers was hit by the pitch to force Pat Illies in with the winning run.

The Cardinals, Adam Moorse started on the mound, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 4 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Lincoln Hochmuth threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Brandon Mazur threw 4 innings in relief, he gave up one hit, issued 3 walks and surrendered one run. Grant Martinson threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up one run, issued 3 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 2 strikeouts. The Cardinals had nine players collect hits, David Barry went 1-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored one run. Rhett Hebig went 2-4 with a RBI and he earned a pair of walks and Jordan DeCroock went 2-6 and he scored a run. Josh Chatfield went 1-6 with a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Johnny Selchow went 2-4.   A. J. Sayer went 1-5, he earned 2 walks, one stolen base and he scored 2 runs and Pat Strey went 1-5 with a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. John Dittman went 1-4 with a RBI and Josh Sharp went 1-5.

The Saints will now play in the Sweet 16 on Labor Day weekend against the Jordan Brewers of River Valley League and Region 6C on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Green Isle at 5 p.m. If they do win, they will play on Sunday Sept. 3 at Norwood at 1:30.
