KNSI’s Central Minnesota Town Ball Round-up (July 21-28)

Back for a fourth season at KNSI (99.9 FM/103.3 FM/1450 AM) with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. Including not only game summaries, but upcoming schedules, league standings. Tournament summaries and an occasional special interest feature. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South and Stearns County teams throughout their league playoffs, regional and state tourney games. COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 1 MOORHEAD BREWERS 0 (7/21 at Cold Spring)

The Springers defeated their regional rivals the Brewers in a good ball game. The Springers put up their run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. The veteran right-hander, Zach Femrite started on the mound, he threw seven innings, including four 1-2-3 innings. He scattered five hits, all singles, he issued a walk to the first batter of the game. Femrite recorded six strikeouts, he threw a total of just 85 pitches, 61 were for strikes. Jeron Terres went 1-for-3 with their lone RBI, he drove in Brian Hansen. Hansen went 1-for-2, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Eric Loxtercamp went 2-for-3 and Garrett Fuchs went 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Femrite went 1-for-3 and Zach Hinkemeyer went 1-for-2. The Brewers did defeat the Springers at the Coors Light Invite in Jordan, just a couple of weeks ago. The Springers were missing four starters in that event.

For the Brewers, Tanner Dahl started on the mound. He threw three innings and gave up four hits. He issued one walk and recorded three strikeouts. Cam Bonnema threw three innings in relief and was the pitcher of record. He gave up three hits, surrendered one run and recorded two strikeouts. Spencer Flaten went 1-for-2 and earned a walk. Kory Wolden went 1-for-3. Tanner Adam went 1-for-3, Michael Peschel went 1-for-3 and Joe Hallock went 1-for-3.

MARSHALL “A” 1 BRAINERD BEES 0 (7/22 at Cold Springer)

The “A”s defeated their regional rivals the Bees in a pitching battle, as the “A”s scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Derek Branson started on the mound for the “A”s and threw a complete game to earn the win. He gave up just four hits and recorded seven strikeouts. Mason Penske went 1-for-4 with a RBI and had stolen base and Ryan VanMoer went 1-for-3 with a triple and he scored their lone run. Nate Hoeft went 1-for-4 with a double, Jordan Kontz went 1-for-3 and he was hit by a pitch, Derek Schlangen and Travis McGlauflin both earned walks.

The Bees, Hanson Devine started on the mound and threw a complete game. He gave up just five hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered one run and he recorded four strikeouts. Blaine Peterson went 1-for-3 and Kevin Peterson went 1-for-3. Tim Martin went 1-for-3 and Brian Vogt went 1-for-3.  

COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 4 MARSHALL “A” 1 (7/22 at Cold Spring)

The Springers defeated their regional rival the “A”s backed by eight hits and a good pitching performances by a pair of right-handers. Reed Pfannenstein, started on the mound and threw five innings to earn the win. He scattered four hits, issued no walks, surrendered one run and he recorded two strikeouts. Chris Butala threw two innings in relief to earn the save. He recorded one strikeout.  Eric Loxtercamp went 3-for-4 and he scored a run. Zach Hinkemeyer went 2-for-3 with a RBI and he had a stolen base. Ryan Holthaus went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and he scored a pair of runs and Tyler Geislinger went 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Garrett Fuchs was credited with a RBI on a fielder’s choice, he was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base and Brian Hanson had a sacrifice fly for a RBI.

The “A”s Travis McGlaulfin started on the mound and threw six innings. He gave up eight hits, one walk, four runs and he recorded a strikeout. Nate Hoeft, Derek Branson, Barry Meyer and Travis McGlauflin all went 1-for-3 for the “A”s.

MOORHEAD BREWERS 9 BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 1 (7/22 at Cold Spring)

The Brewers defeated their regional foe the Saints, backed by 11 hits and good pitching. David Ernst started on the mound. He threw three innings, gave up three hits, two walks, one run and he recorded three strikeouts. Kyle Kingsley threw two innings in relief and gave up one hit, two walks and recorded two strikeouts. Ryan Olson threw two innings in relief and recorded three strikeouts. Michael Leach went 2-for-4 with three RBI and he scored a run and Tanner Adams went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs. Spencer Flaten went 3-for-4 and he scored two runs while Jeremy Peschel went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Chris Coste went 1-for-2 with a RBI with two walks and he scored a run. Landen Uetz went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Kory Wolden went 1-for-4 with a run and Mike Peschel had two RBI.

Brad Haag threw seven innings for the Saints and gave up 11 hits, three walks, nine runs and recorded six strikeouts. Nick Maiers went 2-for-2 with a double and he walked. Ryan Schneider went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Doug Keller went 1-for-3, Tom Imholte walked, had a stolen base and scored a run. Chad Hockemeyer walked and Nick Hengel walked.

BRAINERD BEES 1 HIBBING MINERS 0 (7/22 at Cold Spring)

The Bees defeated their regional foe the Miners, backed by a good pitching performance by Blake Peterson. He threw seven innings and gave up just two hits, one walk and he recorded nine strikeouts. Player/manager Tim Martin had a walk off single in the bottom of the 7th inning, to give the Bees the big win, he went 1-3 with his RBI single. Blake Peterson went 1-2 with a double and he earned a walk and Joel Martin went 1-3. Hanson Devine went 1-3 and he scored the winning run and Kevin Peterson earned a pair of walks.

The Miners Andy Kolden started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he gave up 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 run and 2 strikeouts. Dan Pellinen and Jamie Steinburg went 1-3 and Justin Guyer earned a walk.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 8 HIBBING MINERS 3 (7/22 at Cold Spring)

The Saints defeated the regional foe the Miners, backed by the pitching performance of Chris Koenig. He started on the mound and threw a complete game to earn the win. He scattered nine hits, issued three walks, surrendered three runs and recorded 10 strikeouts. Nick Hengel went 2-for-2 with two RBI, drew two walks and scored two runs. Ryan Schnieder went 1-for-2 with a double for two RBI, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch and he scored a run.Tom Imholte went 1-for-4 with a double. He walked and he scored two runs. Nick Maiers went 1-for-2, with a walk, got hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Ryne Gregory went 1-for-3 with a walk and Riley Eiynck went 1-for-4 with a RBI. Justin Mohs had a sacrifice fly for a RBI, Andy Auger was hit by a pitch and Chad Hockemeyer earned a walk.

The Miners’ Kyle Durban started on the mound and threw 5 1/3 innings. He gave up four hits, seven walks, five runs and recorded five strikeouts. Louis Gerzin threw 2/3 of an inning. He gave up three hits, three runs and recorded a strikeout. Ben Sartorial threw the final inning in relief and recorded a strikeout. Dan Pellien went 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Louis Gerzin went 1-for-4 with a double for a RBI and scored a run. Jamie Steinberg went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and scored a run. Jeff Korpi went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Joe Lescarbeau went 1-for-4 with a RBI and Kyle Durban went 1-for-3 with a walk.

The Springers defeated their regional foe the Miners, backed by 10 hits and a good pitching performances by a pair of Springers. Mathias Butala started on the mound, he threw three innings to earn the win. He gave up four hits and he recorded a strikeout. Justin Thompson threw two innings in relief and gave up one hit. Joe Dempsey had a good game as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles for three RBI and he scored a run. Zach Femrite went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and he was hit by a pitch. Drew VanLoy went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly for two RBI and he scored a run. Brian Hansen went 1-for-2 with a RBI and scored a run. Alex Jungels went 1-for-3, drew a pair of walks and he scored two runs. Max Fuchs went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored a run. Eric Loxtercamp was hit by a pitch, had a stolen base and scored two runs. Nate Hinkemeyer went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Zach Hinkemeyer went 1-for-1 and Garrett Fuchs was credited with an RBI. He earned a walk and he scored a run. MOORHEAD BREWERS 11 BRAINERD BEES 1 (7/23 at Cold Spring)

The Brewers defeated their regional rival the Bees, backed by 17 hits, including six extra-base hits. Dylan Deavy started on the mound for the Brewers and threw three innings to earn the win. He gave up four hits, three walks, one run and recorded three strikeouts. Jason Beilke threw an inning in relief. He issued one walk and Parker Trewin threw one inning in relief and gave up a hit. Spencer Flaten went 3-for-4 with a home run for two RBIs and he scored two runs. Joe Hallock went 3-for-4 with a double for two RBI and David Ernst went 3-for-3 with two doubles for two RBI and scored two runs. Michael Leach went 2-for-3 with two doubles for a RBI and scored a run and Matt Oye went 2-for-4 and he scored a run. Kory Wolden went 2-for-4 with an RBI, walked and scored two runs. Mike Peschel went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Tanner Adams went 2-for-4 and scored a run and Landon Uetz earned a pair of walks.

Tim Martin started on the mound for the Bees and he threw 2/3 of an inning. He was the pitcher of record. Bryce Flanagan threw 4 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up nine hits, three walks, two runs and recorded three strikeouts. Blake Peterson went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run while Joel Martin went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kevin Peterson went 1-for-2, Ben Jones went 1-for-2 and Hanson Devine and Tim Martin both earned walks.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 7 MARSHALL “A”s 0 (7/23 at Cold Spring)

The Saints defeated their regional foe the “A”s, backed by the great pitching performance by Tommy Auger. Auger threw a complete game, giving up just two hits and recording 5 strikeouts. Ryan Schneider had a great day as he went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI with a run. Brian Minks went 2-for-4 with a double for three RBI and a run. Auger went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he earned a walk while Steve Neutzling had a sacrifice fly for a RBI. Nick Maiers went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs. Chad Hockemeyer went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Tom Imholte earned a walk and scored a run. Player/manager Brian “The Wonderer103” Anderson earned a walk and he advanced to third base.

The “A”s Justin Metling started on the mound and threw a complete game. He gave up eight hits, five walks, seven runs and he recorded one strikeout. Jon Ellis went 1-for-2 and Travis McLauflin went 1-for-2.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 3 COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 2 (7/19 at Cold Spring)

The Saints defeated their Lakewood League and regional rivals the Springers, backed by 11 hits and a good pitching performance by lefty Nick Maiers. He threw a complete game and scattered five hits, issued two walks and recorded seven strikeouts. Jack Schramel had a big game as he went 2-for-5 with a double for two big RBI. Veteran Jason Kotschever went 2-for-5 with a RBI and earned a walk. The veteran Ryan Schneider went 2-for-5, earned two walks and scored a run. Nick Maiers went 2-for-5 and Dominic Austin went 1-for-4 and scored a run. Brian Minks went 1-for-5 and scored a run, Chad Hockemeyer went 1-for-5 and Steve Neutzling earned a pair of walks.

The Springers’ Justin Thompson started on the mound and threw seven innings. He scattered six hits, issued four walks, surrendered two runs and recorded four strikeouts. Chris Butalla threw two innings and gave up three hits, issued one walk and he surrendered a run. He was the pitcher of record. Brian Hansen went 1-for-4 with a triple for an RBI and scored a run and Joe Dempsey went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Alex Jungels went 2-for-3 with a walk and Justin Thompson went 1-for-4. The Springers missing three starters in their infield, made a couple of miscues. There should be at least one more game between these rivals this season, in a possible regional rematch.  

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE

WATKINS CLIPPERS 6 COLD SPRING ROCKIES 3 (7/21 at Watkins)

The Clippers defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Rockies, backed by nine hits and a good pitching performance by their player/manager. Lefty Matt Geislinger threw a complete game to earn the win. He scattered eight hits, issued three walks, surrendered three runs and recorded 14 strikeouts. He threw 152 pitches, 101 for strikes. Brendan Ashton went 1-for-3 with a home run and earned a walk while Dan Sargent went 1-for-5 with a home run. Kevin Kramer went 1-for-5 with two big RBI and Adam Hiltner went 2-for-3. He earned a walk and scored two runs. Heath Kramer went 2-for-3 with a double and Dan Berg went 1-for-4, earned a walk and scored a run. Tyler Hebrink went 1-for-3, earned a walk and had a stolen base. Lincoln Haugen and Gary Peters were both credited with RBI.

The Rockies’ Trevor Lardy started on the mound and threw seven innings. He scattered eight hits, issued three walks and surrendered four runs. Marshal Wirtzfeld threw one inning in relief. He gave up one hit, issued two walks and he surrendered two runs. Blake Holbrook had a good game, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and had a stolen base. Calvin Kalthoff went 1-for-5 with a double for an RBI and David Jonas went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and scored a pair of runs. Patrick Hemingson went 1-for-3 and earned a walk, Austin Dufner went 1-for-5, Jordan Neu went 1-for-1 and scored a run while Marshal Wirtzfeld earned a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch.

EDEN VALLEY HAWKS 9 ST. NICHOLAS NICKS 8 (7/16 at Eden Valley)

The Hawks defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Nicks, for their first league win of the season. They collected 12 hits, backed by a great game by Alex Geislinger. They got good pitching performances by Austin Schlangen and Austin Berg. Schlangen threw four innings, scattered seven hits, issued four walks, surrendered six runs and he recorded a strikeout. Austin Berg threw five innings in relief to earn the win. He gave up four hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered two runs and he recorded two strikeouts. Geislinger went 4-for-5 with two doubles for three big RBI and Berg went 2-for-5 with a triple for an RBI and scored a run. Schlangen went 1-for-4 with two RBI and he scored a run. Tanner Olean went 2-for-5 with an RBI, had a stolen base and he scored two runs. Zach Schlangen went 1-for-2 with two RBI. He earned a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored three runs. David Pennertz went 1-for-3 with a double. He was it by a pitch and scored a run. Matthew Pennertz went 1-for-4, Matt Lies had a sacrifice bunt, was hit by a pitch and earned a walk. Steven Pennertz earned a walk and scored a run while Connor Holthaus earned a walk.

The Nicks’ Grant Marozek started on the mound, he threw six innings, gave up 10 hits, two walks, seven runs and recorded three strikeouts. Matt Schindler threw two innings in relief. He was the pitcher of record after giving up two hits, one walk, two runs and two strikeouts. Tanner Anderson had a good game after he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He earned a walk and scored a run. Matt Schindler had a good day at the plate after he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He earned a walk, had a stolen base and scored two runs. Travis Hansen went 2-for-4, earned a walk and scored two runs while Jeff Lutgen went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jon Hofer went 1-for-4 with a double for an RBI and Sam Moriarty went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Andrew Bautch went 1-for-3, earned a pair of walks, had a stolen base and scored a run. Player/manger Robert Lutgen earned a walk and he scored two runs.

LUXEMBURG BREWERS 10 EDEN VALLEY HAWKS 0 (7 Ininngs) (7/21 at E. V. )

The Brewers defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Hawks, backed by nine hits, including three home runs. J.T. Harren started on the mound for the Brewers and threw a complete game. He gave up just three hits, issued three walks and he recorded three strikeouts. Isaac “Zeek” Matchinsky had a big day at the plate after he went 2-for-4 with two home runs for seven RBI. He earned a walk and scored three runs. He hit a grand slam in the first inning and a three-run home run in the second inning. Mitch Ergen went 1-for-4 with a home run and Chase Aleshire went 1-for-4 with an RBI. He earned a pair of walks and scored two runs. Player/manager Cory Wenz went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Sam Iten went 1-for-4. He was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Luke Harren went 1-for-4, got hit by a pitch, earned a walk and scored two runs and J. T. Harren earned a pair of walks. Ethan Fruth went 1-for-4 and Colten Fruth went 1-for-4.

Matt Lies started on the mound for the Hawks was the pitcher of record. The Hawks were led by Alex Geislinger, who went 1-for-3 with a double. David Pennertz went 1-for-3, Matt Unterberger went 1-for-3. Austin Berg, Matt Lies and Conner Holthaus all earned walks.

KIMBALL EXPRESS 4 WATKINS CLIPPERS 0(7/23 at Kimball)

The Express defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Clippers, backed by eight hits, and good pitching performances by three of the Express arms, who combined for a three-hitter. Joe VonWahlde started on the mound and threw five innings to earn the win. He gave up just one hit, issued two walks and recorded two strikeouts. Matt Dingmann threw three innings in relief. He gave up just one hit and he recorded one strikeout. Zach Dingmann threw one inning in relief. He gave up a hit and he recorded two strikeouts.  Brooks Marquardt went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kyle Winter went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ben Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI. He was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Matt Dingmann had a sacrifice fly for an RBI and scored a run. Jordan Joseph went 1-for-3 with a double, he was hit twice by a pitch and scored a run. Adam Beyer went 1-for-2 with a double, he earned a walk and scored a run, and Zach Sufka earned a walk.

The Clippers’ Dan Berg started on the mound and threw six innings. He gave up six hits, three walks, three runs and recorded five strikeouts. Carter Geislinger threw two innings in relief and gave up two hits with a strikeout. Dan Berg went 1-for-3 with a walk, Kevin Kramer went 1-for-3, Dan Sargent went 1-for-4 and Adam Hiltner earned a walk.

LUXEMBURG BREWERS 11 ST. NICHOLAS NICKS 1 (7/23 at St. Nick)

The Brewers defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Nicks, backed by 13 hits and good pitching performances. Lefty Austin Klaverkamp started on the mound and threw five innings to earn the win. He scattered six hits and recorded nine strikeouts. Mitch Ergen threw three innings in relief. He issued a pair of walks and recorded two strikeouts. Austin Klaverkamp had a big day at the plate, too, he went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double for four big RBI. Chase Aleshire had a big game, he went 4-for-4 with a double. He earned a walk and scored three runs. Isaac Matchinsky went 1-for-4 with an RBI, he was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. He gave up four hits, three walks, three runs and recorded four strikeouts. Brett Hopfer went 2-for-3, Travis Hanson went 1-for-3 and he was hit by a pitch. Tanner Anderson went 1-for-4, Matt Schindler went 1-for-4, Grant Mrozek went 1-for-4 and Sam Moriarty earned a pair of walks and scored their lone run.  

ST. AUGUSTA GUSSIES 11 PEARL LAKE LAKERS 5 (7/23 at Pearl Lake)

The Gussies defeated their Central Valley League foes the Lakers, backed by 10 hits, including a home run and four doubles. Travis Laudenbach started on the mound and threw 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. He scattered nine hits, issued three walks and surrendered three runs while recording four strikeouts. Luke Richardson threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up a hit, two runs and recorded five strikeouts. Brady Grafft had the big hit of the day as he went 1-for-2 with a grand slam for four big RBI and he earned three walks. Player/manager Dustin Schultzenburg went 2-for-3 with a double for two RBI, he was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Marcus Lommel went 1-for-4, with a double for an RBI, earned a walk. He was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Luke Richardson went 1-for-3 with a double for an RBI. He earned a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Matt Skaja went 1-for-2 with a double for an RBI. He earned a walk and scored two runs. Adam Gwost went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Nate Laudenbach went 1-for-5 with an RBI and scored a run, Mitch Gwost went 1-for-3 and he scored a run while Nate Gwost earned a walk.

The Lakers’ Mitch Wieneke started on the mound and threw six innings. He gave up eight hits, seven walks, 10 runs and recorded six strikeouts. Alex Miller threw two innings and gave up two hits, one run with three strikeouts and Matt Kripner threw the final inning. Preston Peglow went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored two runs and Chad Kunkel went 1-for-2 with an RBI with a run. Mitchell Wieneke went 1-for-5 with an RBI and scored a run. Andy Linn went 2-for-4 while Derrick Garding went 1-for-5, Justin Kunkel went 1-for-3, Ryan Wieneke went 1-for-5 and Alex Miller went 1-for-5.

Mason Ruegemer had a good game as he went 4-for-5 with a double, stolen base and four runs. Austin Dufner had good night after he went 3-for-5 with two doubles for four RBI with a run. Jordan Neu went 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly for two RBI and two runs and Jake Hennen went 2-for-5 with two RBI. David Jonas went 2-for-4 with a double, two sacrifice flies for an RBI and scored a run. The Hawks’ Steven Pennertz started on the mound and threw two innings. He gave up four hits and four runs. Tanner Olean threw three innings in relief and gave up three hits, two runs with four strikeouts. Austin Burg threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up five hits and four runs. Austin Schlangen threw 1 1/3 innings and gave up two hits, one run and he recorded a strikeout. Alex Geislinger went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs, he walked and was hit by a pitch. Steven Pennertz went 1-for-3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch and Austin Berg went 1-for-5 with a run. The Muskies defeated their Sauk Valley League rival the Villains, backed by eight hits and a pair of good pitching performances. The Muskies’ Adam Wenker started on the mound, and threw eight innings to earn the win. He scattered seven hits, issued two walks, surrendered three runs and recorded seven strikeouts. Lefty Johnny Schumer threw one inning in relief to earn the save. He gave up one hit, issued three walks, surrendered one run and recorded three strikeouts. The Muskies were down 3-1 going into the sixth inning, when they put up four runs, to give them a 5-3 lead going into the seventh inning. Tim Burns had a big day, he went 3-for-4 with a home run with a double for an RBI and scored two runs. Adam Schellinger went 1-for-5 with a home run and Danny O’Connell went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jace Otto went 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. Cody Partch was credited with an RBI, got hit by a pitch and scored a run. The Lumberjacks collected eight hits backed by a good pitching performances by a couple of the Lumberjacks arms. The veteran, player/manager Mike Beier started on the mound and threw eight innings. He scattered four hits, issued three walks, surrendered two runs and he recorded three strikeouts. Mitch Keeler threw five innings in relief to earn the win. He gave up four hits, issued a pair of walks and recorded two strikeouts. Cameron Jurek had a good game after he went 2-for-5 with a double for an RBI. He earned a walk and scored a run. Hunter Hammers had a good day, he went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two stolen bases and scored a run. Austin Schoenberg threw 3 2/3 innings in relief and gave up three hits, four walks, five runs and recorded two strikeouts. Tyler Reverman closed it out by retiring one batter, with a strikeout. Anthony Reverman went 2-for-5 with a home run and Shawn Schoenberg went 1-for-1 with a three-run home run. Corey Schoenberg went 1-for-5 with a double and a run and Jamie Terres went 1-for-2 with a double. He was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. The Lakers defeated their Victory League South rival the Steves for the South Division championship. The Lakers collected 11 hits to back their pitchers. Will Kleinschmitt started on the mound and threw seven innings to earn the win. He gave up three hits, a walk and recorded six strikeouts. Shane Olmscheid threw 1/3 of an inning in relief. He gave up two hits, two runs and a walk. Cody Stich threw the final 1 2/3 innings in relief and gave up two hits, three runs, a walk and two strikeouts. Josh Becker had a big day at the plate as he went 4-for-4 with five RBI. He earned a pair of walks, got hit by a pitch and scored a run. Kleinschmitt went 1-for-5, Carter Holthaus went 1-for-5 and Caleb Curry earned a pair of walks, two stolen bases and scored a run. Matt Meyer earned a pair of walks, Reed Voit went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Riley Voit went 4-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and scored five runs.

The Steves’ Andy Stolt started on the mound and threw five innings. He gave up six hits, four walks and six runs. Ben Omann threw three innings in relief and gave up five hits, a walk, three runs and had three strikeouts. Rick Henrickson went 2-for-3, with a pair of walks and two runs. Austin Guggenberger went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly for an RBI and scored a run. Player/manager Ben Omann went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly for three RBI and Alex Wolhart went 1-for-1 and scored a run. Nick Krippner went 1-for-3, Troy Monson was hit by a pitch, T. J Bevens was hit by a pitch and Andrew Grant earned a walk and scored a run.

ST. STEPHEN STEVES 9 FREEPORT BLACK SOX 1 (7/22 at St. Stephen)

The Steves defeated their Victory League South rival the Black Sox to qualify for the regional tournament. Nick Krippner started on the mound and threw seven innings to earn the win. He gave up just four hits, issued three walks, surrendered a run and had three strikeouts. Blake Guggenberger threw two innings in relief and gave up a hit, a walk and had a strikeout. Tony Schmitz had the big hit of the day after he went 1-for-4 with a grand slam for four RBI. Rick “Mr. Consistant” Hendrickson went 1-for-3 with an RBI. He earned a walk and scored a run. T.J. Bevens went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run and Troy Munson went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and a run. Austin Guggenberg went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Blake Guggenberg was credited with an RBI, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Player/manager Ben Omann went 1-for-4, Cody Wolhart was hit by a pitch and Zach Oman scored a run.

The Black Sox’s, T.J. Frericks started on the mound and threw five innings. He gave up four hits, two walks, seven runs and recorded three strikeouts. Tom Benson threw an inning in relief and gave up two hits, a walk and two runs. Mitch Reller threw two innings in relief and gave up a hit. Troy Frieler went 1-for-3 with a double and earned a walk and Trevor Sawyer went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mitch Waldvogel went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt, Brandon Sawyer went 1-for-4, Bryan Benson went 1-for-3 with a walk and Nate Mettenberg walked and scored a run.

The Cyclones defeated their Central Valley League foe the Gussies a well-played game. Tyler Bjork started on the mound for the Cyclones and threw two innings. He gave up a hit, a walk and had four strikeouts. Luke Bentrud threw two innings in relief and gave up two hits, a walk, two runs and had a strikeout. Nate Freihammer threw three innings in relief and gave up two hits, two walks and had a strikeout. Charlie Oltz threw 2/3 of an inning in relief. He gave up two hits and recorded a strikeout. Veteran 6-foot-9 right-hander Jeff Hille threw 1 1/3 innings in relief to earn the win. He issued a walk and he recorded two strikeouts. Player/manager Paul Schlangen had a good game, he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored a run. Evan Warnert went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk and Jeff Hille went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Mathew Meyer went 1-for-4, had a stolen base and scored a run, David Kroger went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and scored a run. Zach Fuecker went 2-for-4, Mitch Loegering went 1-for-4, Scott Lochner earned a walk and was hit by a pitch and Nate Freihammer earned a walk. The Cyclones were down 2-1 in the sixth. Meyer singled then stole second and advanced to third on the throw. After Scott Lochner walked, Meyer stole home as the pitcher picked to go to first. For the go-ahead run, Dave Kroger started the two-out rally in the eighth with a single up the middle then stole second to get in scoring position and Hille’s walk-off single scored him.

ST. JOSEPH JOES 11 SHAKOPEE COYOTES 0 (7/14  Shakopee)

The Joes defeated their DRS League foe the Coyotes backed by 13 hits and good pitching performances by three of the Joes arms. Joey Stock started on the mound and threw three innings. He gave up just one hit, issued no walks and recorded three strikeouts. Peter Nelson threw three innings in relief, recorded three strikeouts and Zack Overboe threw the final inning in relief, recording two strikeouts. Peter Nelson had a good game as he went 3-for-5 with a double for three RBI and scored three runs. Zack Overboe had a good game after he went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double for an RBI. He earned a walk and scored four runs. Brandon Bloch went 1-for-3 with an RBI and earned a walk and Ben Alvord went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ethan Carlson went 1-for-3 and he was hit by a pitch, Joey Stock went 1-for-3 and scored a run and Willie Willats went 1-for-1 and earned a walk. Caz Novak had a sacrifice fly for an RBI and scored a run and Hunter Blommer was credited with an RBI and a walk. Justin Barg earned a walk and he scored a run, Greg Anderson earned a walk and Charles Vaughn earned a walk.

The Coyotes’ Andy Lazzari started on the mound and threw five innings. He gave up 11 hits, a walk and seven runs. Lance Buchtel threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up two hits, six walks, four runs and recorded two strikeouts, Jeff Hohenstein retired one batter. Hohenstein went 1-for-3, Zak Hoffman and Matt Theis were both hit by a pitch and Tanner Graff earned a walk.

RICHMOND ROYALS 12 ST. NICHOLAS NICKS 3 (7/21 at St. Nick)

The Royals defeated their Central Valley foe the Nicks, backed by 14 hits and a good pitching performance by Dan Hansen. Hansen threw a complete game and scattered nine hits. He surrendered three runs and he recorded seven strikeouts. Cole Schmitz had a big game, he went 4-for-5 with a double for four RBI. Dusty Adams, had a good night, he went 2-for-3 with two RBI, he had a pair of walks and scored three runs. Kenny Mooney had a good game, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs. Kyle Budde went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a walk and two runs. Brent Ruegemer went 1-for-4 with an RBI, he was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Hansen went 1-went-4 with a double for an RBI and scored a run and Blaine Athmann went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two stolen bases and scored a run. Conor Dols went 1-for-4 with a double and Dylan Jude was credited with an RBI and a walk.

The Nicks’ Kevin Drontle started on the mound and threw four innings. He gave up 13 hits, a walk, 11 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Tanner Anderson threw three innings in relief and gave up a hit, five walks and a run. Adam Dingmann went 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Matt Schindler went 1-for-3 with a double for an RBI and scored a run and Rob May went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Alex Faber went 1-for-3 for an RBI and Kevin Drontle went 1-for-3. Jeff Lutgen went 1-for-4 and Nate Thielen went 1-for-3.
