KNSI’s Central Minnesota Town Ball Round-up (Aug. 18-20)

Back for a fourth season at KNSI (99.9 FM/103.3 FM/1450 AM) with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. Including not only game summaries, but upcoming schedules, league standings. Tournament summaries and an occasional special interest feature. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South and Stearns County teams throughout their league playoffs, regional and state tourney games. LAKEWOOD LEAGUE/REGIONAL 2B TEAMS

MOORHEAD BREWERS 1 SHAKOPEE INDIANS 0 (8/19 @ HAMBURG)

The Brewers of Region 2B defeated their rivals from the River Valley League and Region 3B the Indians in good pitching duel. The Brewers scored their run with with one out in the bottom of the 9th inning on a walk off sacrifice fly. The Brewers got a lead of single by Spencer Flaten and Kory Wolden was hit by a pitch and both advanced to 2nd and 3rd base following a fielders choice by Tanner Adam and Mike Leach’s sacrifice fly drove in Spencer Flaten. Tanner Dahl started on the mound for the Brewers, he threw a complete game to earn the win, he scattered 5 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Derek Dormanen went 1-2 with a double, he had the Brewers first hit of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning. Chris Coste went 1-3 and Spencer Flaten went 1-4 with his single and he scored the winning run. Kory Wolden was hit by a pitch and Ryan Sheely earned a walk.

The Indians, Aaron Johnson, started on the mound, he threw a great game, as he threw 8 2/3 innings, he gave up just 3 hits, issued two walks, he surrendered one run and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Travis Larsen went 1-3 with a double, their only extra base hit of the game. Kyle Ryan went 1-3 and he earned a walk, Dominic Schleper went 1-3, Drew Hanbury went 1-3 and Alex Bade went 1-3.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 8 EAGAN BANDITS 0 (8/20 @ Norwood)

The Saints of Region 2B defeated their foe from the Riverview East League and Region 3B the Bandits, backed by 11 hits and a pair of very good pitching performances. Dominic Austing started on the mound for the Saints, he threw 5 innings to earn the win, he issued one walk and he recorded 5 strikeouts, he was nearly perfect. Veteran right hander, Brad Haag threw 4 innings in relief, to earn the save, he gave up one hit and he recorded 5 strikeouts. The Saints sent 10 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning, 4 walks, one wild pitch and three base hits later, they had four runs on the board. Veteran Ryan Schnieder went just 1-5, but with a big 3 run home run for 3 big RBI’s in the 5th inning. Jack Schramel went 3-6 with a RBI and Steven Neutzling went 1-4 for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Nick Maiers went 2-5 and he scored a run and Waylon Bemboom went 2-4, he earned a walk and he scored a pair of runs. Dominic Austing went 2-5 and he scored a run, Tom Imholte earned a pair of walks, Brian Minks earned a walk and he scored a run and Jason Kotschevar earned a walk and he scored a run.

The Bandits, Neal Kunik started on the mound, he threw 1 1/3 innings, he gave up 4 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Jordan Brandt threw 5 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 7 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Dane Miller threw one inning in relief and Ray Larson closed it out with one inning of relief, he recorded a pair of strikeouts. Collin Olstad went 1-3, Tony Johnson was hit by a pitch and Dane Miller earned a walk.

CHASKA CUBS 2 COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 1 (8/18 @ Green Isle)

The Cubs of the Riverview League and Region 3B defeated their long time rivals, of the Lakewood League and Region 2B, the Springers in a pitching dual between a pair of veteran right handers. The Cubs scored their winning run on a walk off walk. Pete Ohnsorg started on the mound for the Cubs, he threw a complete game to earn the win. He scattered 5 hits, issued one walk, he surrendered one run and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Dylan Peterson went 1-2 with 2 big RBI’s and he earned a walk, Justin Johnson went 1-4 and he scored a run and Tony Peterson went 1-3 and he earned a walk. J. T. Canapés earned a pair of walks, Chase Hentges earned a walk and he scored a run, Tony Lane earned a walk, and Tyler Polster earned a walk.

The Springers, Zach Femrite started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he gave up just 3 hits, his Achilles heal was that he issued 7 walks, he surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Zach Femrite went 1-4 with a home run in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1 till the bottom of the 9th inning. Garrett Fuchs went 2-4, Drew Vanloy went 1-4, Joe Dempsey went 1-4 and Zach Hinkemeyer earned a walk.

CHANHASSEN BIRDS 10 SAUK RAPIDS CYCLONES 7 (8/18 @ Green Isle)

The Birds of the Riverview League and Region 3B defeated the Cyclones the Lakewood League and from  Region 2B. The Birds got a walk off grand slam with one out in the 9th inning, to claim the come from behind win. Gunnar McCarthy was the big gun for the Birds, he went 2-6 with 6 big RBI’s. Logan Spitzack started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Chris Choles threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up one hit, issued a pair of walks and surrendered one run. Miles Nablo threw 2 1/3 innings in relief to earn the save, he gave up 3 hits, issued one walk and he surrendered two runs. Adrian Turner went 2-4 with home run and he scored 2 runs and Shawn Riesgraf went went 2-4 and he earned a walk. Justin Anderson went 1-4 for a RBI and he scored a run and Zach Hoffman went 1-3, he earned 2 walks and he scored 3 runs. Ryan Burmeiser went 1-3, Derek Smith earned a walk and he scored a run, Blake Kampa and Nate Swenson both scored a run.

The Cyclones, David Kroger, started on the mound, he battled the Birds for 7 1/3 innings, he gave up 8 hits, issued 2 runs, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Jeff Hille threw 1 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up a hit, issued 2 walks and he surrendered 5 runs. Veteran Scott Lochner had a great game, he went 3-4 with a double for a RBI and he earned a walk. Mitch Loegering went 2-5 for a RBI and Mathew Meyer went 1-5 with a double for a RBI. Bo Schmitz had a good game, he went 2-3, he earned a pair of walks and he scored 2 runs. Player/manager Paul Schlangen earned a pair of walks and he scored 2 runs and Bjork Hanson earned a walk and he scored a run. Tyler Bjork went 1-4 with a triple, he earned a walk and he scored a run and David Kroger went 1-3 and he scored a run.

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE (Region 11C Teams)

RAYMOND ROCKETS 10 MORA BLUE DEVILS 1 (8/20 @ Green Isle)

The Rockets of the Corn Belt League and Region 11C defeated their foe from the Minney East League and Region 1C the Blue Devils. They were led by 9 hits, including a home run and three doubles. They had good pitching performances by their lefty Alex Lotthammer and Cole Christianson. Alex started on the mound, he threw 5 innings to earn the win, he gave up 5 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Cole threw 3 innings in relief, to earn the save, he recorded 3 strikeouts. The Rockets put up three runs in the first inning and five more on the board in the fifth inning. They were led by their big first baseman, Kyle Knott, went 2-5 with a home run and a double for 4 big RBI’s. Justin Koenen had a big game, he went 3-5 with 2 doubles for 3 RBI’s and he scored a pair of runs. Tyler Steen went 1-3, he earned a pair of walks and he scored two runs and Mike Jeseritz went 1-5 and he scored a run. Eric Hulterstrum went 1-4 and he scored a run, Jordan Smith earned a pair of walks and he scored a run, Calvin Kosminskas earned a walk and John Sawatzky scored a run.

The Blue Devils, Asa Patterson started on the mound, he threw 3 1/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 6 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Derek Graves threw 4 2/3 innings in relief, he gave up 4 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Matt VanSomeren closed out the final inning. Sean Graff went 1-2 with a RBI and he earned a walk and Derek Graves went 1-4 with a double. Hunter Foss went 1-4 and he scored a run and Michael Humphrey went 1-4. Ryan VanSomeran went 1-3 and Mike Schnabel earned a pair of walks.

NEW PRAGUE ORIOLES 5 WATKINS CLIPPERS 2 (8/18 @ Norwood)

The Orioles of the DRS League and Region 3C defeated their foe from the Central Valley League and Region 11C the Clippers. This was a pitchers dual till the top of the 9th inning and a three run home run by the Orioles James Fuerniss was too much for the Clippers to over come in the bottom of the 9th. Nathan Sprouls started on the mound for the Orioles, he threw 7 1/3 innings, he scattered 4 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Trevor Smisek a draftee from the Montgomery Mallards threw the final 1 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win, he recorded 3 strikeouts. James Fuerniss went 2-5 with his 3 run home run and he scored a pair of runs. Justin Novak went 2-3 with 2 sacrifice bunts and Jake Klein went 3-4 and he scored a pair of runs. Aaron Kes went 1-4 with a home run, Dan Novak went 1-4 and he earned a walk, Zack Dubanoski went 1-4 with a sacrifice bunt and Aaron Shetland earned a pair of walks.

The Clippers, Matt Geislinger started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he gave up 10 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 14 strikeouts. Kevin Kramer went 2-4 with a stolen base and he scored a run and Dan Sargent went 1-4 with a home run, Heath Kramer went 1-3, Lincoln Haugen was hit by a pitch and Dan Berg had a sacrifice bunt.

SAUK VALLEY LEAGUE (Region 1C Teams)

MAPLE LAKE LAKERS 2 ST. JOSEPH JOES 0 (8/18 @ Hamburg)

The Lakers of the North Star League and Region 12C defeated their foe from the Sauk Valley League and Region 1C the Joes. The Lakers picked up single runs in the first and the second inning, as they led off the game with a pair of great bunts and a sac bunt and a sac fly and they had a run on the board. In the second inning a single, a sac bunt and and a sac fly and they had another run on the board. The Lakers Mitch Wurm started on the mound, he threw a complete game to earn the win. He scattered 5 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Riley Decker went 1-3, as he led off the game with a bunt, he had a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. Donnie Mavencamp went 1-2 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and Brian Redemske went 1-3 and he scored a run. Graham Brown went 1-2 with a bunt single and he earned a walk. Luke Fobbe and Brock Fobbe both had sacrifice bunts and Matt Bergstrom was hit by a pitch.

The Joes, Terry Hadden, a draftee from the Nowthen Knights, started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he scattered 4 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. After the 2nd inning, Terry faced only three batters per inning, from the 3rd inning till the 8th inning, he faced only 15 batters. Alex Kendall had a good game he went 3-4 and he flashed a little leather and a strong arm at shortstop. Ethan Carlson went 1-4 with a double, Joe Stock went 1-4 and Brandon Bloch earned a walk. The Joes were missing three of their starters for this game, including; Ben Alvord, Peter Nelson and Hunter Blommer, in addition Brandon Bloch was unable to play defensively because of an arm injury.

STEARN COUNTY LEAGUE (Region 15C Teams)

ELROSA SAINTS 12 PELICAN RAPIDS LAKERS 6 (8/20 @ Hamburg)

The Saints of the Stearns County League and Region 15C defeated the Lakers of the Countryside League and Region 16C. Backed by 14 hits, including three extra base hits. The Saints, Ethan Vogt started on the mound, he threw 6 2/3 innings to earn the win, he did give up 10 hits, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Ethan had given up just 3 hits prior to the 6th inning, including a pair in the first inning. Aaron Vogt threw 2 1/3 innings to preserve the win, he gave up 5 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. The Saints sent 10 batters to the plate in the 5th inning, one walk, a hit batter and 5 hits later they had put up 5 runs on the board. The big blow in the inning was a grand slam by the pitcher, Ethan Vogt.  I was wondering at that point who was going to do the chores for his father that night, they are milking a lot of of cows. Ethan Vogt went 2-4 with his grand slam for 4 huge RBI’s and he was hit by a pitch. Cody Eichers had a very good game, he went 3-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Matt Middendorf had a good game, he went 2-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a pair of runs. Matt Schmitz had a good night, he went 3-6 for a RBI and he scored 3 runs and Austen Hadley went 1-4 for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. James Kuefler went 1-5 and he scored a run, Kevin Kuefler was hit by a pitch and he scored 2 runs and Derek Wiener scored a run.

The Lakers draftee, Casey Kowalski, a draftee from Urbank/Parkers Prairie Bombers, started on the mound, he threw 4 2/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 7 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Taylor Doll a draftee from the Dent DiamondHawks threw 1/3 of an inning, he gave up 4 hits and he surrendered 4 runs. Danny Kuhn threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, surrendered one run and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Jan-Erik Lindberg threw one inning in relief and he recorded one strikeout. Adam Johnson had a big game, he went 4-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Dana Johnson went 4-5 and he scored 3 runs and Brian Guler went 3-5 with 3 big RBI’s. Jan-Erick Lindbergh went 1-5 for a RBI and Taylor Fuchs went 1-5 and he scored a run. Drew Thompson went 1-4, Logan Knott went 1-2 and Al Johnson was credited with a RBI.

HOWARD LAKE ORPHANS 4 ST. MARTIN MARTINS 0 (8/19 @ Green Isle)

The Orphans of the North Star League and Region 12C defeated their foe from the Stearns County League and Region 15C the Martins. The Orphans put up 3 runs in the first inning,  they collected 4 hits and the Martins had a pair of miscues. They never looked back, the Orphans did put up an insurance run in the 8th inning. The Orphans Mike Dockendorf started on the mound, he threw 7 innings to earn the win. He gave up just 2 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Tyler Hanson threw 2 innings in relief, he issued a pair of walks. Riley Gruenhagen went 1-4 for a pair of big RBI’s and Steve Boger went 1-3 for an RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Jake Gruenhagen went 2-3 with a double and he scored a run and Matt Streich went 1-3, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Brett Ahsenmacher went 1-5 and Zach Kuefler went 1-3 and he earned a walk.

The Martins, Ben Schroeder started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, he scattered 6 hits, issued one walk, he surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. After the first inning, he had three innings where he only faced three batters, he gave up 3 hits in 6 innings. Kyle Lieser went 1-4 with a double and he made some very good plays at his shortstop position. Scott Schlangen went 1-4, Josh Stangler was hit by a pitch and Michael Schlangen, Taylor Holthaus and Austin Arceneau all earned walks.

GREEN ISLE IRISH 6 REGAL EAGLES 4 (8/20 @ Green Isle)

The Irish of the Crow River West League and Region 7C defeated the Eagles of the County Line League and Region 15C, backed by 9 hits and couple of big innings. The Irish’s Cody Hallahan started on the mound, he threw 6 innings to earn the win, he scattered 4 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Alex Twenge threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, surrendered a pair of runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Veteran Mac Zachow threw one inning in relief to earn the save, he recorded one strikeout. The Irish put up 2 runs in the 4th inning and 4 more big runs in the 5th inning, after the Eagles did tie it up at 2-2 after four innings. Alex Twenge had big game, he went 3-4 with a home run for 3 big RBI’s and he scored a pair of runs. Mac Zachow had a good game, he went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Brian Scherschligt went 2-4 and he scored a run and Josh Kraby went 1-3 for 2 RBI’s. Josh Anthony went 1-4 and he scored a run, Ben Alexander earned a pair of walks, Lucas Herd earned a pair of walks and Andrew Leonhart scored a run.

The Eagles, Chris Beier started on the mound, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 3 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered a pair of runs and he recorded one strikeout. Colin Richards, a draftee from the Starbuck Stars threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 4 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded one strikeout. Shane Rademacher threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits and he recorded one strikeout. Chris Beier went 2-4 for a RBI and he scored a run and Nathan Meyer went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Nathan Beier went 1-4 for a RBI and he scored a run and Blake Karsch went 1-3 for a RBI. Jordan Beier went 1-4 and he scored a run, Alex Wosmek went 1-1, Derek Dengerud earned a walk and Austin Kampsen scored a run.

ST. PETER SAINTS 2 AVON LAKERS 1 (8/20 @ Green Isle)

The Saints of the Riverview League and Region 6C defeated the Lakers of the Victory League and Region 6A in a good pitching duel. The Lakers did leave the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, after a line drive out by Taylor Carter Holthaus. The Saints, Jesse Anderson started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he scattered 7 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Andy Reiner threw 4 innings in relief to earn the win, he gave up 3 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Shea Roehrkasse had a good game, he went 2-4 for a RBI and he scored a run and Jovan Rodriguez went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run. Alex Hoehn went 1-4 with a RBI and Jamey Munsterman went 2-4.

The Laker’s Kyle Collins started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he scattered 7 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Cody Stich had a good game he went 2-4 with a double and Matt Meyer went 2-5. Jon Bauer went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt Reed Voit went 1-3 for a RBI and he earned a walk and Riley Voit went 1-4 and he earned a walk. Caleb Curry went 1-5, Carter Holthaus went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt, Zac Tomsche had a sacrifice bunt and Josh Becker earned a pair of walks.
