KNSI’s Central Minnesota Town Ball Round-up (Aug. 11-13)

Back for a fourth season at KNSI (99.9 FM/103.3 FM/1450 AM) with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. Including not only game summaries, but upcoming schedules, league standings. Tournament summaries and an occasional special interest feature. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South and Stearns County teams throughout their league playoffs, regional and state tourney games. LAKEWOOD LEAGUE/REGIONAL 2B GAMES

SAUK RAPIDS CYCLONES 10 MARSHALL “A” 4 (8/11 @ Sauk Rapids)

The Cyclones defeated their regional rival of the Corn Belt league the “A” backed by 12 hits, including a big 3rd inning. The Cyclones did fall behind 4-0, as Marshall put up 4 runs, but they did answer. In the bottom of the 3rd they batted 10 guys, 5 hits, 2 walks later and they had put up 6 runs. They never did look back after that inning, as they punched their ticket to the state tournament. The Cyclones did get good pitching performances out of their veterans, David Kroger started on the mound, after a bit of a shaky start, he settled down. He threw 6 2/3 innings, he scattered 10 hits, 6 of those in the 3rd inning and prior. He issued one walk, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Jeff Hille entered the game in the 7th inning with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs, one pitch and he was out of the inning! Jeff threw 2 1/3 innings, he gave up no hits, no walks and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Player/Co-Manager Tommy Wippler had a good game he went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored a pair of runs. Tyler Bjork had a great game, he went 2-4 with a big 3 run home run in the 7th inning, he had 5 big RBI’s. Mathew Meyer had a good game, he went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Veteran Scott Lochner went 2-4, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs and player/co-Manager Paul Schlangen went 1-4 and he scored a run. Mitch Loegering went 1-5 with a big home run, to get the 3rd inning started, after 2 outs and 7 more batted after him. David Kroger went 1-3 and he earned a walk and Bo Schmitz earned a walk and he scored a run.

The “A” Jake Leighton started on the mound, he threw 3 innings, he gave up 6 hits, surrendered 6 runs, issued a pair of walks and he recorded a strikeout. Travis McGlauflin threw 4 innings in relief, he gave up 5 hits, surrendered 4 runs, issued a walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Derek Branson threw the final inning in relief, he gave up a hit and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Derek Branson gave the “A” a brief lead with his 3 run home run in the top of the 3rd inning. He went 1-3 with 3 RBI’s and Jake Leighton went 2-2 with a RBI. Jordon Kontz went 2-4, he scored a run, Nate Hoeft went 2-5 and Barry Meyer went 1-3, he earned walk and he scored a run.Travis McGlauflin went 1-4, Dylan Boucher went 1-4 and Mason Penske scored a run.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 6 HIBBING MINERS 2 (8/11 @ Watkins)

The Saints defeated their regional and Arrowhead League foe the Miners to punch their ticket to the state tournament.  They were led by 8 hits and a dominate pitching performance by Dominic Austing. He started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he gave up just 3 hits and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Chris Koenig threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up 5 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Nick Maiers threw 1 2/3 innings in relief, he issued a walk and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Steven Neutzling had a good game, he went 3-5 with a triple for a RBI and he scored a run. Nick Maiers went 1-4 with a double for 2 big RBI’s and Ryan Schneider went 1-4 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Waylon Bemboom went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Jason Kotschevar went 1-3 with a RBI and he was hit by a pitch. Dominic Austing earned a walk, had a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Jack Schramel earned a pair of walks and scored a run.

The Miners, Matt Erickson started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, surrendered 6 runs, issued 4 walks and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Louis Gerzin threw one inning in relief, he recorded 3 strikeouts. Pat Shea went 2-4 with 2 doubles and he scored a run and Trevor Bernsdorf went 2-4 with a RBI. Matt Erickson went 2-3 and Dan Pellinen went 1-4 and he scored a run. Andy Kolden went 1-4, Jamie Steinberg earned a walk and Joe Lescarbeau had a sacrifice bunt.

MOORHEAD BREWERS 3 COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 1 (8/12 @ Sauk Rapids)

The Brewers earned the number one seed in Section 2B with their win over the Springers, backed by a great pitching performance by Tanner Dahl. He threw a complete game, he scattered 6 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 10 strikeouts. Chris Coste was the Brewers leader, as he got a couple of very timely hits, he went 2-4 with a double for 3 big RBI’s. Spencer Flaten went 2-5 and Kory Wolden went 1-4 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Tanner Adam went 1-4 and he scored a run and Derek Dormanen went 1-4. Matt Oye went 1-3, Landon Uetz earned a walk, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run and Kaleb Binstock earned a walk. Due to the weather on Sunday their wasn’t a seeding game played.

The Springers, Zac Femrite started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he scattered 8 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Brian Hansen went 1-3, he earned a walk and he had a stolen base and Drew VanLoy had a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he earned a walk. Eric Loxtercamp went 1-4, Alex Jungels went 1-4, Zach Femrite went 1-4, Tyler Geislinger went 1-4 and Garrett Fuchs went 1-4. The Springers did have 3 crucial calls that went against them, those really hurt their chances. But you don’t win many games, scored just one run either.

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 4 SAUK RAPIDS CYCLONES 1 (11 in) 8/12 @ SR)

The Saints defeated their Lakewood League rivals the Cyclones in an 11 innings battle, backed by 11 hits and a great pitching performance by the veteran right hander Brad Haag. Brad threw 11 innings, he scattered 8 hits, issued one walk, surrendered one run and he recorded 8 strikeouts. The Saints had a walk off 3 run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Brain Minks was just 1-6 but with his walk home run, was the difference in the game. Ryan Schneider had a good game, he went 3-5 with a double and Waylon Bemboom went 2-3 with a sacrifice bunt, he earned walk and he scored a run. Jack Schramel went 3-6 and he scored a run and Dominic Austing went 1-3 and he earned a pair of walks. Nick Maiers went 1-3 for a RBI and he earned a pair of walks, Jason Kotschevar was hit by a pitch and Steve Neutzling earned a walk and he was hit by a pitch.

The Cyclones, Nate Friehammer started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, issued a pair of walks, surrendered one run and he recorded a strikeout. Jeff Hille threw 5 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, issued 3 walks and he record a strikeout. Lucas Bentrud threw 1/3 of an inning in relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued a walk and he surrendered three runs. Co-Player/manager Paul Schlangen went 2-5 and Joel Haller went 2-5 with a stolen base. Co-Player/manager Tommy Wippler went 1-5 and veteran Scott Lochner went 1-4. David Kroger went 1-3, he was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base and Mitch Loegering went 1-5 and he scored a run. Tyler Bjork earned a walk, Evan Warnert had a sacrifice fly and Andy Thayer was hit by a pitch.

COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 11 BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 10 (8/12 @ SR)

The Springers defeated their Lakewood League rivals the Saints in a slugfest, there were a total of 26 hits collected in this game. Justin Thompson started on the mound, he threw 6 innings, he gave up 9 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Ben Etzell threw 3 innings in relief to earn the win, he gave up 6 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Tyler Geislinger had a big game, he went 2-3 with 2 doubles for 2 RBI’s, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Tyler had a very good game in right field, he made a couple of very nice catches. Zach Hinkemeyer went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s and he earned a pair of walks. Alex Jungels went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a pair of runs and Ryan Holthaus went 1-2 with two sacrifice flies for a RBI and he earned a walk. Eric Loxtercamp went 1-5 for a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run, Eric also made a couple of very nice plays in centerfield. Zach Femrite went 2-4, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Brad Olson went 1-2, he earned 2 walks, he had a sacrifice bunt and he scored 2 runs. Drew VanLoy went 1-3, he earned a walk, he was hit by a pitch and he scored 2 runs and Garrett Fuchs earned a walk and he was credited with a RBI.

The Saints Brian Minks started on the mound, he threw 2 2/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 6 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Dan Kronenberg threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued a walk and he surrendered 2 runs. Jason Kotschevar had a big game, he went 4-5 for 5 big RBI’s, including a 3 run home run in the top of the 9th inning. Ryan Schneider had a good game, he went 2-5 with a double for 3 RBI’s and he scored a run. Steven Neutzling went 2-5 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored 3 runs and Dominic Austing went 2-5 with a double and he scored a run. Jack Schramel went 3-6 with a double and he scored 2 runs and Brian Minks went 1-4 with a double, he earned a pair of walks and he scored a pair of runs. The Clippers defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Express, backed by 12 hits and a dominated performance by lefty Matt Geislinger. Player/manager, Matt started on the mound, threw a complete game, he scattered 4 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 14 strikeouts. The Clippers had a big 3rd inning, when they put up 5 runs and they never looked back. Dan Sargent went 2-5  with a 3 big RBI’s and he scored a run. Veteran Danny Berg had a big game, he went 2-3 with 2 doubles for a RBI, he earned a walk, had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Tyler Hebrink went 2-3 with a RBI, he earned a walk, was hit by a pitch and he scored 2 runs. Brendan Ashton went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI’s and Kevin Kramer went 2-5 and he scored 2 runs. Heath Kramer went 1-2 with a RBI, he earned a pair of walks and he scored 2 runs and LIncoln Haugen went 1-4 with a double, he earned a pair of walks and he scored a pair of runs. Gary Peters went 1-4, he earned 2 walks and he scored a run and Adam Hiltner earned a walk.

The Express’s Matt Dingmann started on the mound, he threw 2 1/3 innings, he gave up 6 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 5 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Joe VonWahlde threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Brooks Marquardt threw 1/3 of a inning in relief, he recorded a strikeout. Adam Beyer threw one inning relief, he gave up 2 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. The Rockets of the Corn Belt League defeated their Central Valley foe the Gussies, backed by 8 hits and a good pitching performance by lefty Alex Lotthammer. He started on the mound, he threw a complete game, he gave up just 4 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts. The Rockets were led by Tyler Steen, he had a big game, he went 2-4 with a double for 3 big RBI’s and he scored a run. Justin Koenen went 2-3 and he scored 2 runs and Cal Kosminskes went 2-3. Mike Jeseritz went 1-4 and he scored a run, Eric Hulterstrum went 1-3 and Jordan Smith was credited with a RBI.

The Gussies, Zach Laudenbach started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 7 hits, issued one walk, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Travis Laudenbach threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up just one hit and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Nate Laudenbach went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and Marcus Lommel went 1-4 with a double. Mitch Gwost went 2-4 with a RBI, Adam Gwost scored a run and Nate Gwost was hit by a pitch.

The Yankees of the Corn Belt League defeated their Central Valley foe the Rockies, backed by 10 hits and a good pitching performance by Austin Deutz. He threw a complete game, he scattered 7 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 11 strikeouts. Nolan Schaeffer had a big game, he went 3-4 with a home run and a double for 5 big RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Andy Schmidt went 2-4 and he scored 2 runs and Aaron Mathiowetz went 2-3 and he was hit by a pitch. Matt Bauer went 2-3, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs, Dylan Criquet-Danielson went 1-4, Darrick Allpress earned a walk and Derek Rasmussen scored a run.

The Rockies, Jake Brinker started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, he gave up 10 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 7 runs and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Trevor Lardy threw the last inning in relief, he recorded a strikeout. Veteran David Jonas had a good game, he went 2-3 with a RBI and he earned a walk. Calvin Kalthoff went 2-4 and Mason Ruegemer went 1-4, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Tyler Steen went 3-4 and he scored 2 runs and Eric Hulterstrum went 1-4 with a RBI. Brett Swanson went 1-3 with a RBI and he earned a walk, Justin Koenen went 1-2, he earned 2 walks and he scored a run and Jordan Smith went 1-4.

The Express of the Central Valley League defeated their Cornbelt League rivals the Rockets, backed by 9 hits and a good pitching performance by lefty Zach Dingmann, he started on the mound, he threw 8 innings to earn the win. He scattered 4 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered 2 runs and he record 8 strikeouts. Andy Dingman closed it out with one inning in relief, he recorded a strikeout. Zach Sufka had a big hit, he was just 1-3, but with a 3 run home run for 3 big RBI’s. Ben Johnson had a big game, he went 3-3 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Scott Marquardt went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and Brooks Marquardt went 2-3, he earned a walk, 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. Kyle Winter went 1-3 and he earned a walk, Joey VanWahlde scored a pair of runs and he had a stolen base and Austin Ruehle earned a walk.

The Rockets, John Sawatzky started on the mound, he gave up 8 hits, issued one walk, he surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Calvin Kosminskas threw one inning in relief, he gave up a hit, issued 3 runs and he surrendered 2 runs and Brandon Wedel threw 1/3 of an inning, he issued a pair of walks. Brett Swanson went 1-4 with a double and Mike Jeseritz went 1-4 and he scored a run. Jordan Smith went 1-2 and he earned a walk, Kyle Knott went 1-4, Herman Soloman had a stolen base, and Noah Vreeman and Austin Smith both earned walks.

KIMBALL EXPRESS 4 WATKINS CLIPPERS 1 (8/13 @ Granite Falls)

The Express defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Clippers backed by 14 hits and good pitching performances by Joe VonWahlde and Brooks Marquardt, they combined for a 3 hitter. Joe started on the mound, he threw 5 innings, to earn the win. He gave up just 2 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded a strikeout. Brooks threw 4 innings to earn the save, he gave up a hit and he recorded a strikeout. Ben Johnson had a good game, he went 2-5 with a home run for 2 big RBI’s. Jordan Joseph went 2-5 with a big home run and Adam Beyer went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Brooks Marquardt went 2-4 and Austin Ruehle went 2-5 and he scored a run. Scott Marquardt, Joe VonWalde,  Kyle Winter and Zach Sufka all went 1-4 for the Express.

The Clippers, veteran lefty, Dan Berg started on the mound, he threw a complete game. He gave up 14 hits, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Tyler Hebrink went 2-3 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Lincoln Haugen went 1-3, Kevin Kramer, Danny Berg and Adam Hiltner all earned walks.

KIMBALL EXPRESS 4 WATKINS CLIPPERS 3 (8/13 @ Granite Falls)

The Express defeated their Central Valley League rivals the Clippers for the 2nd time in the day to earn the No. 1 Seed from 11C.  Ben Johnson started on the mound for the Express, he threw 7 innings to earn the win. He gave up just 3 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Zach Dingmann threw 2 innings in relief to earn the save, he gave up 2 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Kyle Winter had a big game, he went just 1-4, but it was a big 3 run home run in the top of the 8th inning. Scott Marquardt went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Austin Ruehle went 1-5 with a double. Jordan Joseph went 1-4 with a double, Adam Beyer went 1-4 and Ben Johnson earned a walk, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Brooks Marquardt earned a walk, Joey VonWahlde earned a walk and Scott Sufka earned a walk.

The Clippers, young Logan Linn started on the mound, he threw 7 2/3 innings, he gave up 6 hits, issued 4 walks, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Dustin Kramer threw 1 1/2 innings in relief, to close it out. Brendan Ashton went 2-4 and he scored a run, Dan Berg went 1-3, he earned a walk, had a sacrifice bunt and he had a stolen base. Adam Hiltner went 1-4, Gary Peters went 1-4 and Dan Sargent earned 2 walks, he had 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. The Muskies defeated the Central Valley League rivals the Joes, backed by a great pitching performance by their veteran lefty David Deminsky. He threw a no-hitter, he issued a pair of walks, hit one batter and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Jonah Debosis went 2-5 with 2 big RBI’s and Johnny Schumer went 2-5 with a RBI. Jace Otto went 2-5 with a double and he scored a run and Cody Partch went 1-4 , he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Jake Sweeter went 1-4 and he scored a run and Tim Burns earned a pair of walks, he was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base. Adam Wenker earned 3 walks, he scored a run and he was credited with a RBI, Braeden Dykhuizen earned a pair of walks and the red head called a great game at his catcher position and Adam Schellinger and Dan O’Connell both earned walks.

The Joes’ Joey Stock, started on the mound, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 3 hits, issued 6 walks, he surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Greg Anderson threw 3 innings in relief, he gave up 5 hits, issued 3 walks, surrendered one run and recorded 1 strikeout. Peter Nelson threw 2 innings in relief, he gave up 3 hits, issued 2 walks, surrendered one run and he recorded 2 strikeouts. CLEAR LAKE LAKERS 3 FOLEY LUMBERJACKS 2 (8/12 @ Hinckley)

The Lakers defeated their Sauk Valley League rival the Lumberjacks, backed by 9 hits and a good pitching performances by Cory Schmidt and Ryan Paasch. Cory started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, he scattered 7 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout to earn the win. Ryan threw 2 innings in relief, to earn the save, he issued 3 walks and he recorded a strikeout. Jake Samuelson had a good game, he went 2-4 for 2 big RBI’s and Brandon Buesgens went 3-4 and he scored 2 runs. Matt Korte went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run, Cory Schmidt went 1-4 for a RBI, Ryan Paasch went 1-1 and Cole Gueningsman earned a walk.

Ryan VanSomeren went 3-3 and he scored a run and Greg Chmiel went 1-2, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Logan Graves went 1-3, Sean Graff went 1-4, Hunter Foss had a sacrifice bunt and Michael Humphrey earned a walk.

Derek Graves had a big game, he went 2-5 with a triple and a double for 5 RBI’s, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Ryan VanSomeren went 1-2 with a double for 3 RBI’s and Michael Humphrey went 2-4, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Sean Graff went 1-4 with a double, he was hit by a pitch, had a stolen base and he scored a run. Greg Chmiel went 1-4 with a double, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Hunter Foss was credited with a RBI, he earned a walk, he was it by a pitch and he scored 2 runs, Asa Patterson earned a walk and he scored a run and Darin Erickson and Logan Graves both scored runs.

The Blue Devils of the Eastern Minney defeated their Sauk Valley League foe the Joes, backed by the good pitching performances by Raleigh Millan and Chase Oslin. Raleigh threw 8 innings, he scattered 9 hits, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Chase Oslin threw one inning in relief to earn the win, he gave up 2 hits, one run and he record a strikeout. Greg Chmiel went 2-4 for a RBI, he was hit by a pitch, he had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Logan Graves went 1-4 with a RBI and he had a stolen base and James Woolhous went 1-3 with a RBI by way of a fielders choice. Michael Humphrey went 1-5 and he scored a run and Derek Graves earned a walk and he had a sacrifice bunt. Mike Schnabel earned a walk and he scored a run, Hunter Foss was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base, Erik Raivo scored a run and Darin Erickson earned a walk. The Blue Devils scored when their lead off batter of the 10th inning, Michael Humphrey got on base by way of an error and he was sacrifice to second and moved to third base on an error and bases were loaded at this point and Greg Chmiel was hit by a pitch for forced in the winning run.

The Joes, Alex Kendal started on the mound, he threw 9 plus innings, he scattered 5 hits, he issued a pair of walks and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Brandon Bloch went 2-6 with a double and he scored a run and Greg Anderson went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Adam threw a complete game, he gave up just 2 hits, issued no walks and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Tim Burns blasted a solo home run in the third inning and he earned a walk in the 1st inning. Jonah DeBosis had a big game, he went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and Braeden Dykhuizen went 1-3 with a stolen base. Jace Otto went 1-3, he earned a walk and he scored a run and Cody Partch went 1-3 he earned a walk and he scored a run. Jake Sweeter went 1-4 and Johnny Schumer was hit by a pitch.

Jason Kampsen threw 6 innings in relief to earn the win. He gave up 4 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 6 strikeouts.
