KNSI Radio’s Central MN Baseball Round-Up (May 4)

Back for a third season with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County South teams this season and the upcoming schedule for each league including tournament and exhibition games. In addition the league standings thru out the season.

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE

LUXEMBURG BREWERS 13, WATKINS CLIPPERS 8 (4/30/16 @ Luxemburg)

The Brewers overcome an early deficit with 6 runs in the fourth inning to defeat CVL rivals the Clippers. Starting pitchers were a pair of very good lefties, but the bats prevailed today, as there were 30 hits pounded out. The Clippers actually out hit the Brewers, but 3 big home runs made a huge difference in the outcome. Player/Manager Cory Wenz had a big day at the plate, he went 2-4 with 2 doubles for 2 RBI’s and he walked and scored a run. Austin Klaverkamp went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and

veteran Luke Harren went 2-4 with a walk and he scored a run. Chase Aleshire went 2-5 as the St. Cloud State red-shirt showed some power with a towering 2 run home run and he scored 2 runs. Colton Fruth went 1-5 with a home run, 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs and Derrick Orth went 1-4 as he went the yard too, he walked and he scored 3 runs. Nick Baker went 1-4, he walked, scored a run and he had a sacrifice bunt and Sam Iten went 1-5 and he scored a run. Lefty Austin Klaverkamp was the Brewer starting pitcher, he went 3 innings and he recorded 7 strikeouts, Sam Iten entered the game in the fourth inning, he threw 4 innings of relief. He gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and he recorded 4 strikeouts to earn the win. Lefty Nick Baker closed it out, with 2 innings of relief, gave up 3 hits, 1 run and he walked 2.

The Clippers were led by Kevin Kramer as he went 4-6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Dan Berg had a very good day at the plate, as he went 4-6 with a RBI and he scored a run. Matt Geislinger went 2-4 with a triple, scored 2 runs and he had a sacrifice fly for a RBI.  Heath Kramer went 2-3, he walked twice, scored a run and he had a RBI and Gary Peters went 2-4 with a double and a RBI and he scored a run. Lincoln Haugen went 1-6 with a 2 RBI’s and Logan Linn went 1-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Dustin Kramer went 1-4, he walked and he scored a run. Lefty Dan Berg started on the mound for the Clippers, he went 4 innings and he was the pitcher of record. Dustin Kramer threw 4 innings of relief, he scattered 4 hits, walked 2, gave up 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts.

ST. AUGUSTA GUSSIES 6, PEARL LAKE LAKERS 3 (4/30/16 @ St. Augusta)

The Gussies defeated league rivals Pearl Lake Lakers in a very well played game, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning, when the Gussies put up a run. The Lakers took the lead in the 5th inning with 2 runs. In the bottom of the 6th inning the Gussies plated 2 runs and they added 3 insurance runs in the 7th inning. The Gussies were led by the hitting and the pitching performance by Aaron Fruth. He threw 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs and he recorded 8 strikeouts to earn the win.  Zach Laudenbach threw 2 innings and he gave up 1 hit to earn the save. Aaron went 2-4 with a double and a 2 run homer for 3 big RBI’s. Dustin Schultzenburg went 2-4, scored a run, stole a base and he had a RBI. Nate Gwost went 2-4 with a double and a RBI and Marcus Lommel went 2-4. Adam Gwost went 1-4 and he scored a run, Matt Skaja went 1-3 and Logan Alshire went 1-5.

The Lakers had Tony Garding start the pitching duties, he threw 6 innings, gave up 9 hits, 3 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Tommy Linn threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits, 3 runs, he was the the pitcher of record. Derrick Garding led the Lakers at the plate, as he went 2-3 with a double and a RBI. Tim Voigt went 1-4, Andy Linn went 1-4 and he scored a run and Preston Peglow went 1-2 and he scored a run.

WATKINS CLIPPERS 1,  ST. AUGUSTA GUSSIES 0  (11 Innings) (5/1/16 @ St. Augusta)

The Clippers topped CVL rival the Gussies in 11 innings behind the great pitching performances by Matt Geislinger and Heath Kramer. Matt started and he threw 9 innings, scattered 6 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Heath earned the win with 2 innings of relief, he gave up 1 hit, walked 1 and he recorded 1 strikeout. The winning run was scored after a walk was earned by Kevin Kramer in the top of the 11th inning, the winning run was forced in. Brendan Ashton went 2-5 and eight others got base hits for the Clippers. Kevin Kramer went 1-5, he walked, had a stolen base and 1 RBI and Dan Berg went 1-3, walked and he had a sacrifice bunt. Heath Kramer went 1-5 and he scored the winning run and Lincoln Haugen went 1-6. Matt Geislinger went 1-4 with a walk and Dustin Kramer went 1-5. Rob Dobosiziski went 1-4 and he walked and Gary Peters went 1-5.

The Gussies had very good pitching performances too: by Travis Laudenbach and Nate Laudenbach. Travis threw 9 innings, he scattered 7 hits, 3 walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Nate was the pitcher of record, he threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and he recorded 1 strikeout. Adam Gwost went 2-3 with a double, he walked and a sacrifice bunt and Dustin Schultzenburg went 1-5. Marcus Lommel, Nate Laudenbach, Nate Gwost all had base hits. Matt Skaja went 1-5 with a stolen base, Aaron Fruth walked and Brady Graft walked.

LUXEMBURG BREWERS  6,  COLD SPRING ROCKIES 5  (5/1/16 @ Luxemburg)

The Brewers went 2-0 in the CVL for the weekend, they defeated the Rockies 6-5 behind the committee of pitchers. Mitch Ergen was the starter for the Brewers, he went 3 2/3 innings, gave up 1 hit, 4 walks, 4 runs and he record 3 strikeouts. John Fish earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 run and he recorded a strikeout. Brice Adelmeyer threw 2 innings of relief to earn the save, he walked 2 and he had a strikeout. Chase Aleshire had a great game, as he went 2-4 with a double and 3 run homer for 5 big RBI’s. Cory Wenz had a good game going 2-4 and Rhett Frutt went 2-4 and he scored a run. Sam Iten went 1-5 and he scored a run and Ethyn Fruth went 1-3, he walked and he scored a run. Austin Klaverkamp went 1-2 and Luke Harren walked and he scored 2 runs.

The Rockies were led by their veteran David Jones, he went 2-4, scored 2 runs and he walked. Ryan Hennen went 1-4 with a home run and he walked and Dylan Tebrake went 1-4, scored a run and he walked. Jordan Neu went 1-3, he had 2 walks and he scored 2 runs and Kevin Wenner went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s. Marshall Wirtzfield had 3 walks and a RBI and Ryan Bell went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked once. Chris Lardy started the pitching duties for the Rockies, he sent 5 innings, surrendered 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and he had 1 strikeout. Jordan Neu threw 3 innings, giving up just one hit.

KIMBALL EXPRESS 18,  EDEN VALLEY HAWKS 5  (5/1/16 @ Eden Valley)

The Express pounded out 20 hits and they put up 18 runs, as they defeated the Hawks 18-5. Zach Dingmann was the starting pitcher, he threw 4 innings, scattered 6 hits, 4 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Andy Dingmann threw 3 innings of relief to earn the win, he gave up 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 run and he had a strikeout. Adam Theis and Jordan Joseph both threw a inning of relief. Jordan Joseph had a huge game, as he went 5-6 with two 2 run home runs and 6 big RBI’s! Adam Beyer went 2-5 with a 2 run home run and he scored 2 runs. Austin Ruehle had a very good game, going 3-5,  he a double, scored 2 runs, 2 walks and 2 RBI’s. Joe VonWahlde went 2-6, he score 3 runs and he had a RBI. Brian Marquardt went 2-3, he walked and had 1 RBI and Scott Marquardt went 1-3 with a double, 3 walks, stolen base and he score 3 runs. Matt Dingman went 2-6 with a stolen base and Adam Theis went 1-3.

The Hawks were led by Josh Schumacher, he went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and Jake Anderson went 2-3 and he scored a run. Jeff Haag went 1-4, he had a double and he scored 2 runs and Tanner Olean went 1-5. Nathan Geislinger went 1-4 with a RBI, Austin Schlangen went 1-4 with a RBI and Alec Geislinger went 1-5 and he scored a run.

Nathan Geislinger was the pitcher of record, he started and threw 4 innings. Tanner Olean threw 4 innings and Matt Pennertz threw 1 inning.

PEARL LAKE LAKERS 10,  ST. NICHOLAS NICKS 2  (5/1/16 @ Marty)

The Lakers were led by Andy Linn, he went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI’s, Steve Krippner went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI and Ryan Wieneke went 1-2, he walked and score a run. Logan Schramel was the starting pitcher for the Lakers, he threw 6 innings to earn the win. Robert Lutgen went 2-3 with a stolen base, Travis Hanson went 1-3 with a RBI and Joe Wehlage went 1-2 with 2 walks. Jon Hofer was the pitcher of record for the NIcks, he threw 3 innings.

CLEAR LAKE LAKERS 5, LITCHFIELD BLUES 4  (11 Innings) (5/1/16 @ Clear Lake)

The Lakers defeated their SV rivals the Blues 5-4 behind the pitching efforts of Mike Smith, he threw 3 innings, Matt Korte threw 6 innings and earning the win was Richard Thompson with 2 innings of relief. Mitch Voight had a huge at the plate as he went 4-5 with a pair of doubles and two singles, for 4 big RBI’s. Rich Petty went 2-5 with a double and he scored a run and Matt Korte went 3-5. Brett Stingel went 2-4 and Isy Carper went 1-5. It was the walk off single by Tyler Mauer in the bottom of the 11th inning, that provided the winning margin. Kaleb Kalkbrenner was the starting pitcher for the Blues, he went 6 innings, gave up just 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and he had 2 strikeouts. Stephen Pennertz threw 4 innings of relief, he was the pitcher of record for the Blues. Toby Chellin had a very good day, as he went 3-6 with 2 RBI’s and Dylan Kool went 2-5 with a RBI. Carson Deal went 2-4 with a double and Jake Jones went 2-5 with a double. Kaleb Kalkbrenner, Stephen Pennertz and Hayden Lein all had singles for the Blues.

FOLEY LUMBERJACKS 2, ST. JOSEPH JOES 1 (5/1/16 @ St. Joseph)

The Lumberjacks, behind the pitching performances of veteran righty, Mike Beier and Mike Plante defeated SV rival the Joes 2-1. Mike threw 6 innings, he gave up just 3 hits, walked 2 and he recorded 4 strikeouts to earn the pitching win. Mike Plante threw 3 innings of relief, to earn the save. He gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Mike Beier was also one of the leaders on offense, as he went 3-4 and he scored a run. Sam Keeler went 2-4 with a double and Mike Plante went 2-4. Ean VonWald went 1-4 and he scored a run and Jordan Bialke went 1-4. Joel Bollig went 1-4 and Brandon Moren had a sacrifice bunt for a RBI.

The Joes were led by Ethan Carlson at the plate, as he went 2-5 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Greg Anderson went 2-4 with 2 doubles and Ben Alvord went 1-3, he was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base. Joe Stock went 1-4 and Tyler Mueller walked and he had a sacrifice bunt and he walked. Greg Anderson was the starting pitcher for the Joes, he went all 9 innings, he scattered 7 hits and he record 5 strikeouts.

ST. MARTIN MARTINS 7, ROSCOE RANGERS 4 (5/1/16 @ St. Martin)

The Martins defeated their Stearns County rivals the Rangers in their home opener 7-4. They were led by a committee of pitchers, Jaydyn Arceneu started, he threw 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run and he recorded 5 strikeouts to earn the win. Jordan Mascha threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Scott Schlangen threw 2 innings of relief and Ben Schroeder 2/3 of a inning. Bryan Schlangen threw 2 innings to close it out. Taylor Holthaus had a big day at the plate, as he went 2-4 with a home run and a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Jordan Moscho went 1-4 with 3 RBI’s and a sacrifice bunt and Ben Schroeder went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. Matthew Schlangen went 1-4, Michael Sclangen went 1-4 and he scored a run. Bryan Schlangen went 1-2, scored 2 runs and he had 2 walks and Josh Stanger walked four times and he scored 2 runs.

Jordan Schleper had a big day for the Rangers, he went 3-4, scored a run, was hit by a pitch and he had 1 RBI. Trent Gertken went 3-5 and Nick Dingmann went 2-5 with a RBI. Grant Thompson went 2-5 and he scored a run and Brandon Schleper went 2-5 and scored a run. Brent Heinen, went 1-4, walked and scored a run, Brady Klingfus went 1-4 and Devon Savage went 1-2. Jordan Schleper was the starting pitcher and their pitcher of record, he threw 2 2/3 innings. Brady Klingufs threw 3 1/3 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Brent Heinen threw 2 innings of relief, he had one walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts.

FARMING FLAMES 13, RICHMOND ROYALS 12  (5/1/16 @ Farming)

The bats were hot with both teams combining for 38 hits, the Flames survived the Royals 13-12. Leading the Flames offense were; Chris Wehseler, he went 4-5, scored 3 runs and he had 2 RBI’s, Joel Klein went 4-5, scored a run and he had 2 RBI’s and Taylor Fourre went 4-5, scored 3 runs and he had 2 RBI’s. Brad Mergen went 3-5 and scored a run and Aaron Nett went 2-2, scored 2 runs and he had 1 RBI. Mitchell Thelen went 1-5 with a RBI and Aaron Eiynck went 1-5, walked, scored a run and he had a RBI. Craig Klein went 1-4, walked, scored a run and had a RBI, Dylan Panek scored a run and Max Carlson went 1-4 and he had a RBI. Brad Mergen was the starting pitcher, he went 5 innings, Aaron Nett threw  2/3 inning of relief. Brent Mergen threw 3 1/3 innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 1 and he recorded 2 strikeouts.

The Royals had a busy day at the plate, as Adam Backes led the way with a huge day, he went 4-6, he scored 5 runs, he had a triple, stolen base and he had a RBI. Cole Schmitz went 2-5 with a double, he walked and he had 3 RBI’s. Scott Ruegemer went 2-5 with a double, home run, he walked and had 4 big RBI’s. Dan Hanson went 3-5 with a double and a walk, Dusty Adams went 3-5, scored 2 runs, walked and he had 2 RBI’s. D. J. Schleicher went 1-3 with a double, 2 walks and he had a RBI, Kyle Budde went 2-5 with a double and he scored a run and Derek Buermann went 1-5. Andy Bauer was the starting pitcher for the Royals, he threw 4 innings. D. J. Schleicher threw 3 innings, he was the pitcher of record and Dan Hanson threw 1 inning of relief.

LAKE HENRY LAKERS 7, GREENWALD CUBS 0 (5/1/16 @ Greenwald)

The Lakers topped Stearns County rival the Cubs behind a combine pitching efforts by Weston Brinkman and Mitch Weidner. Weston threw 6 innings, scattered 5 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 4 strikeouts to earn the win. Mitch threw 3 inning of relief, he gave up 3 hits and he recorded  4 strikeouts to earn the save. The Kampsen’s were swinging hot bats, as they combined for 7 hits and 6 RBI’s. Josh went 2-4 with 2 home runs for 3 RBI’s and he scored 3 runs. Jason Kampsen went 2-3, he had a home run, for 3 RBI’s, he walked 2 times and he was hit by a pitch. Shane went 3-4, scored 2 runs, walked and he had a stolen base. Ryan Wuertz went 1-3, walked and scored a run, Weston Brinkman, walked 2 times and he had a stolen base and Mitch Weidner had a sacrifice bunt.

Nick Rademacher went 2-4 and Tyler Thomes went 2-2 and he was hit by a pitch to lead  the Cubs offense. Tyler Engelmeyer went 1-3 with a walk and Ryan Kraemer went 1-4. Mitch Worms went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt and Keagan Stueve went 1-4.  Brandon Worms started on the mound for the Cubs, he threw 4 innings. He gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, 7 walks, and he recorded 4 strikeouts and he was pitcher of record. Nick Rademacher threw 4 innings of relief, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Tyler Hoffman thew 1 inning of relief, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 run and he recorded 2 strikeouts.

AVON LAKERS 12, ST. STEPHEN STEVES 11  (5/1/16 @ Avon)

The Lakers made a huge come back to defeat the Steves in their season opener 12-11, behind the huge day by Riley Voit. The Lakers were down 9-3 after the 6 inning and they game back for the win, they put up 3 runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. Riley went 3-5 with 2 home runs for 8 big RBI’s, he also scored the winning run, on a walk off single by Reed Voit. Caleb Curry had a big day at the plate, he went 3-5 with a home run and 3 big RBI’s. Rick Henderson went 2-4 with a triple and Carter Holthaus went 2-6 and he walked 2 times and Matt Meyer walked 4 times and he scored 3 runs. Adam Harlander earned the pitching win for the Lakers, he threw 3 innings to earn the win, he gave up 1 hit, 2 runs, 2 walks and he had 2 strikeouts.  Putter Harlander was the Lakers starter, he threw 4 innings and Cody Stich threw 2 innings of relief.           

The Steves were led by Bo Schmitz, he went 3-5 with a double and a home run for 3 RBI’s. Blake Guggenberger went 2-4 with a home run for 2 RBI’s, T. J. Bevens went 2-2 with a double and a home run for 3 RBI’s and Sam Neeser had a home run. Bo Schmitz was the pitcher of record for the Steves.

HOLDINGFORD EXPRESS 10,  FREEPORT BLACK SOX 6 (5/1/16 @ Holdingford)

The Express topped Victory League south rival the Black Sox 10-6 behind the solid pitching performances by Derek Thielen and Ryan Szymanski. Derek started and he threw 6 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked 5, surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 9 strikeouts to earn the win. Ryan Szymanski threw 3 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 2 runs to earn the save. Jake Klein was a key leader of the Express offense, as he went 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Austin Gerads went 2-4 with a walk and a stolen base and Blaine Feia went 2-5  and he scored a run. Ryan Szymanski went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run and Jeremy Springer went 1-3 with a walk. Derek Thielen scored 2 runs and he was hit by a pitch twice and Derek Biniek scored 2 runs and was hit by a pitch 2 times. Ian Hoffarth walked and he scored 2 runs and Travis Thielen had a RBI.

Craig Meyer started for the Black Sox on the mound and he pitched a complete game. He scattered 10 hits, walked 3 and he recorded 8 strikeouts. Grant Hess had a big day at the plate, as he went 4-5 with 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Troy Frieler went 2-4 with a walk and Eric Evaslage went 1-3 with a double and he scored. Ryan Tschida went 1-3, Carter Sawyer walked, was hit by a pitch 2 times, 2 stolen bases and he scored 3 runs and Seth Noll walked and he had a stolen base.

AITKIN STEAM 12, ST. WENDEL SAINTS 2 (5 Innings) (5/1/16 @ Aitkin)

The Steam topped Victory league foe the Saints 12-2 in 5 innings, behind the pitching of Jake Lynn. Jake Lynn also led the offense with a 2-4 day, with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Sam Peterson went 2-3 with a double, he walked, scored a run and he had a RBI. Jack Kuppich went 2-2 with 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs.

For the Saints Calvin Becker started on the mound, he threw 2 innings and John Pogatchnik threw 5 innings and he was the pitcher of record. John had a good day at the plate, he went 2-4 with a RBI and Lee Maciej went 1-3 with a walk, stolen base and he scored a run. Keaton Gustin went 2-4, Jake Braegelmann went 1-4, Beau Maciej went 1-4 and Taylor Nitz went 1-2 with a walk and he scored a run.

EXHIBITION GAMES

COLD SPRING SPRINGERS  7, MAPLE LAKE LAKERS 1 (5/1/16 @ Cold Spring)

The Springers opened their 2016 baseball season with an exhibition game with the Maple Lake Lakers of the North Star league. They were led by a trio of pitchers; Zach Femrite, Jack Arnold and Justin Thompson. The never aging Zach, threw 3 perfect innings and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Jack also had good showing against a strong team, he threw 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, no walks and 1 strikeout, he earned the win. Justin Thompson threw 3 innings to close it out and he earned the save. He gave up 2 hits and he walked one. Drew VanLoy had a good game at the plate, he went 2-3 with a big double for 2 RBI’s and Ryan Holthaus went 1-3 with a double and 2 big RBI’s. These both occurred in the sixth inning, when the Springers put up 5 runs in the inning and they added 2 in the 8th inning. Zach Hinkemeyer went 1-3 with a double and a RBI and Brain Hanson went 1-1 with a triple, he walked and he scored 2 runs. Mathias Butala went 1-1 with a RBI and he scored a run and Garrett Fuchs went 1-3 and scored a run. Joe Demsey went 1-4 and he scored a run, Brad Olson went 1-1 with a RBI and Tyler Geislinger went 1-1 with a walk.

The Lakers were led by Brian Russell at the plate he went 2-4. Nate Maas went 1-3 and he scored a run and Matt Bergstrom went 1-4. Riley Decker went 1-3 with a walk and Todd Fuller went 1-2. Ben Junkers was the starting pitcher for the Lakers, he threw 3 innings, Brian Russel threw 2 innings of relief. The pitcher of record was Chad Raiche, he threw 3 innings, gave up 8 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks and he recorded 3 strikeouts.

SARTELL MUSKIES 14, MONTROSE-WAVERLY STINGERS 0 (5/1/16 @ Waverly)

The Muskies finally got their first game in, after having two games cancelled, they defeated the Stingers 14-0. The Muskies pounded out 14 hits, one of the key leaders to their offense was Andrew Deters, he went 4-5 with 3 doubles, scored 4 runs, walked and he had 4 RBI’s. Luke Sweeter went 2-5 with a double and 4 RBI’s and Tim Burns went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s, he walked and scored 2 runs. Brain Schellinger went 2-4, he scored 3 runs, walked and he had 1 RBI and Jonah Nebosis went 2-5 and he scored 2 runs. Cody Partch  went 1-4 with a home run and he walked and Grant Machenthun went 1-3, walked, scored 2 runs and he was hit by a pitch. Max Koprek started on the mound for the Muskies, he threw 2 innings, walked 2 and he had 2 strikeouts to earn the win. David Deminsky threw 2 innings, walked 1 and he had 2 strikeouts. Travis Weaver threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk and he had 2 strikeouts and Adam Wenker threw 1 inning and he recorded 1 strikeout. The staff had a combine 1 hitter against the Stingers.
