LOCAL BASEBALL ROUNDUP                                                                    

Back for a third season with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County teams thru out their state tourney games. Check out the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Web site for additional information. Look for updatedstate tourney brackets to be posted for all state tourney games.

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE (Region 11C)

WATKINS CLIPPERS 5  FOLEY LUMBERJACKS 1  (8/28/16 @ Dassel)

The Clippers defeated the Foley Lumberjacks of the Sauk Valley League and the Region 1 No. 2 Seed, behind the great pitching performance by Matt Geislinger. Matt threw a complete game, he gave up just 3 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 19 strikeouts, he faced just 33 batters. The Clippers were led by Brendan Ashton, he went 3-5 with a 2 run home run for 2 RBI’s and Lincoln Haugen went 2-4 with a RBI, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run. Lincoln had a great game behind the plate, he called a very good game and he had a great defensive game. Kevin Kramer went 1-5 with 2 RBI’s, 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. Dan Berg went 2-5 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Heath Kramer went 1-4 with a RBI, Bryan Benson went 1-4 with a stolen base and he scored a run and Matt Geislinger had a sacrifice bunt.

The Lumberjacks starting pitcher, Derek Graves (Draftee from the Mora Blue Devils) was the pitcher of record. He threw 7 1/3 ininngs, scattering 7 hits, no walks and he recorded 11 strikeouts. Tyler Kronstedt (Draftee from the Rum River Bandits) thew 1/3 of a inning, he gave up 3 hits, 1 run and he had a strikeout. Player/Manager Mike Beier closed it out by retiring the last batter. The Lumberjacks, Mitch Keeler went 1-3 with a double for a RBI and Tony Stay went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run.

RAYMOND ROCKETS 5 LAMBERTON LONG SOX 2 (8/28/16 @ Dassel)

The Rockets defeated the Lamberton Long Sox, the Tomahawk East League Champions and the Region 2C Champions, behind the good pitching performance by Alex Lotthammer. Alex threw a complete game, he scattered 6 hits, walked one and he recorded 9 strikeouts.  Tyler Steen had a big game at the plate and behind the plate, he went 3-4 with a home run and he scored a pair of runs. He called and played a great defensive game behind the plate. Kyle Knott went 1-4 with a big 2 run home run  and Jordan Smith went 2-4. Mike Jeseritz went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly and he scored a run. No reports on any damage to the left field fence. Eric Hulterstrum went 1-4 and he scored a run and Justin Koenen went 1-4.

The Long Sox starting pitcher, Johnny Pistulka, was the pitcher of record, he threw 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Mitch Kelly (Draftee from the New Ulm Brewers) threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 1 hit and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Landon Erickson led the Long Sox offense, he went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s. Colby Pack went 1-4 with a double and Donald Strand went 1-4 with a stolen base. Tyler Reiner went 1-4 and he scored a run and Blake Altermatt went 1-4.

WACONIA LAKERS 2  COLD SPRING ROCKIES 1 (8/27/16 @ Hutchinson)

The Waconia Lakers, Crow RIver Central Champions and the Region 7C champions, defeated the young Rockies. The Rockies had a run in the 2nd inning and the scored remained 1-0 till the bottom of the 7th, when the Lakers got a run to tie the game. They put up the winning run in the bottom the 8th, after three miscues by the Rockies defense. The Rockies defense had been sensational  the regional and the first state tourney game.  Ben Smothers went 2-4 with a stolen base and Pater Brown had a sacrifice bunt for a RBI. Jeremy Golden went 1-4 and Craig LePlante went 1-4. Robbie Smothers went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt and Kody Simon scored a run. Chris Bullis scored a run, Jeff Chrest earned a walk and A. J. Friedrich earned a walk.

The Rockies starting pitcher, lefty Ryan Hennen, threw 7 very good innings, he scattered 5 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 8 strikeouts.  Trevor Lardy thew the final inning, he gave up a hit and one run, he was the pitcher of record. The Rockies, actually out hit the Lakers 8-6.  Led by Dylan TeBrake, he went 2-4 with a RBI and Jordan Neu went 3-4. David Jonas went 1-4 and he scored a run, Jake Hennen went 2-4 and Cole Field had a sacrifice bunt. The Rockies season comes to a end, they did built a 17-10 overall, for the 2016 season. Look for the Rockies to make a big push to be back in 2017, with this young team, there average age of their starters are just over 20 years old.

 LAKEWOOD LEAGUE (Region 7B)

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 12  BLAINE FUSION 5  (8/26/16 @ Dassel)

The Beaudreaus Saints took down the highly ranked Blaine Fusion of the Minny Metro League Champions and the Region 5B Champions. They pounded out 17 hits including four doubles and a Grand Slam. The Saints starting pitcher, young right hander, Dominic Austing threw 7 2/3 innings, he scattered 9 hits, 3 walks and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Chris Koenig threw 1/3 of a inning of relief, retired one batter in the bottom of the 8th inning. Brad Haag threw the 9th inning, he issued one walk and he recorded a strikeout. This young team continues to hit the ball all over the park with the leadership of a pair of veterans. The Saints put up 3 runs in the first inning and they never looked back, they added 3 more in the 4th, 1 in the 6th and 5 more big runs in the top of the 8th inning. A huge grand slam by Nick Maiers, was the big blow in the 8th inning, he sent it about 385 feet over the left center field fence.

The Saints offense took advantage of the Fusion’s starting pitcher’s wildness, in the first inning they collected four hits, including a pair of doubles and a pair of walks. Steve Neutzling led the offense, he went 4-6 with 2 RBI’s, he scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Veteran Jason Kotschevar had a good game, he went 3-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s. Nick Maiers went 2-4 with his big grand slam for a total of 5 RBI’s. Brian Minks went 3-5 with a double and he scored a run.  Veteran and Mr. Versatile, Ryan Schnieder went 2-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s, he scored 3 runs and he was hit by a pitch. Waylon Bemboom went 2-5 and he scored a run and Dominic Austing went 1-3 with a double, he scored 3 runs and he earned a walk. Jeff Fasching had a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he earned a walk and Nick Hengel earned a walk.

The Fusion’s starting pitcher, Shane Bushland, threw 3 2/3 innings, he gave up 11 hits, 2 walks, 6 runs and he had 3 strikeouts. Aaron Page threw 3 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 5 hits, one walk, 6 runs and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Zach Rustad threw 1 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk and he had 2 strikeouts. Tom Druk led the Fusion, he went 3-4 with a triple and Ryan Rumpca went 2-3 with a sacrifice fly for a total of  2 RBI’s. Ryan Sulterer went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run and Dan Mossey went 1-5 with a pair of RBI’s. Corey LaPlante went 1-4 with a double, Matt Mossey went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked and Clay Anderson was hit by a pitch and he scored a run.

MIESVILLE MUDHENS 4  BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 0  (8/27/16 @ Litchfield)

The Miesville Mudhens, the Classic Cannon Valley League Champions and the Region 1B Champions defeated the Beaudreaus Saints. The Mudhens starting pitcher, Jacob Dickmeyer threw a complete game, he scattered 5 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Brian Sprout had a good day for the Mudhens, he went 3-4 with a double for a RBI and Deryk Marks went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Joey Werner went 2-3 with a stolen base and a walk and Matt VanDerBosch went 1-4 with a RBI and a stolen base. Nate Hammes went 1-4 with a double, Spencer Merle went 1-3 with a RBI, sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Charles Bruchu went 1-4 and he scored a run.

The Beaudreaus Saints starting pitcher, Brad Haag was the pitcher of record, he threw 2 2/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, 4 runs and had one  strikeout. Ryan Schneider threw 4 1/3 innings of relief, he scattered 4 hits and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Nick Maiers threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 2 hits and he had one strikeout. The Saints had five guys with base hits; Ryan Schneider, Nick Maiers, Dominic Austing, Jason Kotschevar and Nick Hengel and Steve Neutzling earned a walk. The bats cooled off, after having over 30 hits in their first two games.

SAUK VALLEY LEAGUE  (Region 1C)

SARTELL MUSKIES 13 BROWNTON BRUINS 6  (8/28/16 @ Hutchinson)

The Muskies had a struggle for 4 innings, when they fell behind 4-0 to the Brownton Bruins from the Crow River Valley West and the No. 3 seed from Region 7C. The Bruins sprayed the ball around for 3 singles in the first inning and four singles and a little bit of control problems led to 3 more runs in the 3rd inning. The Muskie starting pitcher, David Deminsky, then settled dow to shut the Bruins down for the next 2 innings. The Bruins, Hutchinson area team, had been a very hot team, they defeated the Green Isle Irish in regional play and the Jordan Brewers in the first round of the state tourney. David threw 5 innings, he scattered 7 base hits, 4 runs, one earned run, 3 walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Adam Wenker entered the game in the 6th inning, he scattered 5 hits, 1 walk, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded  4 strikeouts. Adam had a very good performance against a hot team. Andrew Deters had a good game, he went 2-5 with 2 RBI’s, he scored 3 runs, he walked, was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base. Tim Burns went 1-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI’s, he walked and he scored a run. Adam and Brian Schellinger both had good ball games, Adam went 2-3 with a RBI, he walked twice and he scored 2 runs. Brian Schellinger went 1-4 with a walk, 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. Cody Partch went 1-3 with a RBI, he walked twice and he scored 2 runs and Jace Otto went 1-5 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Luke Sweeter went 1-4 and he earned a walk, Luke had good game, behind the plate, he kept the Muskies pitchers in the game, by calling a good game and playing good defense. Jake Sweeter went 1-1 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a run.  Dan O’Connell had a RBI by way of a ground out and John Schmumer earned a walk.

The Muskies put up 4 runs in the 4th inning, with a pair of singles and 2 walks and in the 7th inning they put up 2 more runs, to take the lead. In the 8th inning, they send 12 batters to the plate, 5 hits, 4 walks and a sacrifice fly and they had 7 more runs on the board.

The Bruins, starting pitcher, Dylan McCormick, threw 5 1/3 innings, he gave up just 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and he had 4 strikeouts. They used 5 other pitchers; including Josh Wendlandt, he threw 1 1/3 innings, he gave up 2 hits, 2 runs and one walk and Mark Ulrich a draftee from the Carver Black Sox’s, he issued 3 walks. Ryan Grams, the pitcher record, threw 1/3 of a inning, he issued 3 walks, gave up 3 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Mike Mueller a draftee from the Hamburg Hawks, threw 2/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits and 4 runs and Reggie Vaceh retired one batter. Jason Rosenau led the Bruins, he went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and Josh Dietz went 2-4 with a double and he walked. Deryk Randt went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt for a RBI and Ryan Grams went 2-5. Matt Schwichtenberg went 1-4 and he scored a run, Taylor Schuette went 1-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and Spencer Glaeser went 1-5.

STEARNS COUNTY LEAGUE  (Region 15C)

ELROSA SAINTS 1  BLUE EARTH PIRATES 0  (8/27/26 @ Hutchinson)

The Saints defeated the Blue Earth Pirates the 1360 League and the Region 4C Runner up, behind the great pitching effort by Ethan Vogt. Ethan threw a complete game, he gave up just 3 hits, 3 walks and he recorded 3 strikeouts. He faced a total of 33 batters; as he did work thru a couple jams, but he battled thru them. The Saints got on the board in the first inning, when Matt Middendorf led off the game with a base hit and A. J. Hadley move him over with a very well executed bunt and he scored on Cody Eichers base hit. Matt Middendorf went 1-1, he was hit three times by a pitch and he scored the winning run. Cody Eichers went 1-4 with the only RBI and Austen Hadley went 1-4. Pat Illies went 1-3 with a walk and Kevin Kuefler went 1-2. James Kuefler had two sacrifice bunts and he was hit by a pitch, A. J. Hadley had two sacrifice bunts and Ethan Vogt was hit by a pitch.

The Pirates starting pitcher, was veteran lefty, Aaron Wendt, he threw a complete game, he scattered 6 hits, walked one and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Aaron faced only 35 batters in this contest. Brandyn Olsen went 1-3 with a double and Bobby Olsen went 1-3 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Kane Malo went 1-4, Trent Sonnickson earned a walk and Cody Sukalski earned a walk.

BEMIDJI BLUE OX  11  ST. MARTIN MARTINS 5  (8/28/16 @ Dassel)

The Bemidji Blue Ox, The Northwest League Champions and Region 10C Champions defeated the Martins, behind the pitching performance of Brenden Gillies. Brenden threw a complete game, he scattered 8 hits, walked 4 and he recorded 15 strikeouts. The Blue Ox had 3 home runs to power them past the Martins.The Martins were up 5-4 going into the 6th inning, when the Blue OX but up 4 runs by way of two home runs. Conner McNallan went 1-4 with a 2 run home run and Cody Rutledge went 2-5 with another 2 run home run to put them up 8-5 and they never looked back. They are now 25-1 on the season, they added 3 more runs, that included another 2 run home run by Nick Hovila went 2-4 with 3 RBIs’ and he scored 3 runs. Bazil Zuehlke went 1-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s and Collin Rudtledge went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run. Matt Baier went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Zach Braun went 2-5. Mitch Hendricks went 1-4 and he scored a run and Thomas Revering went 1-1 with a RBI with a sacrifice bunt.

The Martins staring pitcher, Ben Schroeder, threw 5 innings, he scattered 8 hits, surrendered 4 runs, one walk and he had 3 strikeouts. Patrick Courtney entered the game in the 6th inning, he threw 1 inning, he gave up 3 hits, including a pair of home runs. Jaylyn Arceneau threw the final inning, he gave 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Kyle Lieser led the offense, he was hit by a pitch 3 times, he walked, scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Bryan Schlangen had a good game, he went 3-4 with a sacrifice fly, a stolen base and he scored a run. Michael Schlangen had a good game, he went 3-5 and Taylor Holthaus went 1-5 with 2 RBI’s and he had a stolen base. Josh Stangler went 1-4, Jared Overman had a RBI with a sacrifice bunt and he walked. Matthew Schlangen walked and scored a run, Jordan Moscho had a sacrifice fly and Austin Arceneau earned a walk. The Martins season comes to a end, they did built a 15-7 record for the 2016 season.

HADLEY BUTTERMAKERS 12  REGAL EAGLES 1  (7 Innings) (8/27/16 @ Hutchinson)

The Hadley Buttermakers, the Gopher League Champions and Region 13C champions, defeated the Regal Eagles. Starting pitcher for the Buttermakers, Justin  Reinsma threw 6 innings, he scattered 7 hits and he had one strikeout. Ross Ackerman (Draftee from the Adrian “A”) threw 1 Inning of relief, he recorded one strikeout. This was a very good game, the Buttermakers put up 2 runs in the 1st and it stayed that way, till the top of the 5th inning, when Regal put up a run. It was 2-1 going into the bottom of the 5th inning and the Buttermakers put up 10 runs. Blake Rogers led their offense with  2 big home runs, he went 2-3 with a total of 5 RBI’s and he scored 3 runs. Derek Lieser went 2-2 with a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Max Zwart went 2-4 and he scored a run and Joe Larson went 2-3 with a double, walk and he scored 3 runs. Nate Wieneke went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run, Trent Carlson went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored and Alex Peterson went 1-3 with a walk.

The Eagles starting pitcher, Chris Beier went 4 1/3 innings, he gave up 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and he had 2 strikeouts. Brain Kingery (Draftee from the Atwater Chuckers) threw 1/3 of a inning, he entered the game in the 5th inning with the bases loaded, he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, surrendered 6 runs, 4 were earned and he had a strikeout. Austin Kampsen threw 1/3 inning, he gave up a hit and Jordan Wosmek threw 1 inning, he walked one and he recorded a strikeout. Derek Dengerud went 2-3 with a RBI and Nathan Beier went 1-3 and he scored a run. Shane Rademacher went 1-3, Nathan Meyer went 1-3, Blake Karsch went 1-3 and Josh Beier went 1-2. The Eagles season come to a end, they had a 19-9 record overall for the 2016 season.
