LOCAL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Back for a third season at http://knsiradio.com/sports/high-school-msc/about-msc/ with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County South teams thru out their regional and state tourney games. CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE (REGION 11C)

COLD SPRING ROCKIES 8  PELICAN RAPIDS 7  (12 Innings)  (8/21/16 @ Brownton)

The Rockies defeated the Pelican Rapids Lakers from the Country Side League and the Region 16C runner up in extra innings. The Rockies took a commanding lead going into the bottom of the 7th, they were up 6-0. The Lakers put up 3 runs in the 7th and then 4 more in the ninth. The Rockies in the top of the 12th, led off with a base hit by Jake Hennen, pinch runner Mason Ruegemer was advanced to 2nd base by Ryan Bell’s sacrifice bunt and then Dylan TeBrake hit a tough grounder down the third base line, the 3rd base man made a great play on it, but he threw wide of first, to allow Mason Ruegemer to score go ahead run.  The Rockies scored a big run in the top of the 8th inning, when Cold Field had a triple and Marshal Wirztfeld had a sacrifice fly to drive in Cole. The Rockies starting pitcher, lefty Ryan Hennen threw 6 very good innings. He scattered 5 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Jake was on a pitch count, put in place by his college coach, or he may have continued to pitch. Sam Iten, a draftee from Luxemburg, entered the game in the 7th inning, he threw 2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, walked 2 and surrendered 7 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Trevor Lardy threw 4 innings of relief to earn the win, he gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts.

The Rockies offense pounded out 14 hits, Kevin Wenner had a very good game, he went 2-6 with 3 RBI’s and he scored a run.  Dylan TeBrake had a good game, going 2-6 with a RBI and he scored a run and Calvin Kalthoff, had a good game behind the plate and at the plate, he went 3-6 with a double for a RBI. Jake Hennen went 2-6 and Ryan Bell went 2-5 and he scored a run and Ryan covered a lot of ground in center field. Cole Field went 1-4 with a big triple, he earned 2 walks and he scored 3 runs. David Jonas went 1-6 and Jordan Neu went 1-4 and he scored a run. Marshal Wirtzfeld had a RBI by way of a fielder’s choice, Mike Holbrook earned a walk and Mason Ruegemer scored the winning run.

The Lakers starting pitcher, Parker Hanson, threw 5 innings, he gave up 8 hits, 1 walk, 5 runs and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Logan Riedel a draftee from the Long Prairie Predators entered the game in the 6th inning, he threw 3 innings, he gave up 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Taylor Doll, a draftee from the Dent DiamondHawks, entered the game in 9th inning, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 3 hits, one run and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Adam Johnson led the Lakers offense, he had big day, he went 3-6 with a home run and a double for 5 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Alex Johnson went 2-5 with a RBI and Tydan Storrusten went 2-6. Nathan Sillerud went 1-6 with a RBI and Brian Guler went 1-3 with 2 walks and he scored a run. Taylor Fuhs went 1-4 with 2 walks and he scored 2 runs and Parker Hanson went 1-6. Jan Erik Lindberg and Nick Schermerhorn both scored runs for the Lakers. 

RAYMOND ROCKETS 9  DELANO “A” 6  (8/19/16 @ Dassel)

The Rockets topped the Delano “A” of the North Star league and the No. 3 Seed from Region 12C. The Rockets were led by lefty Alex Lotthammer, he started on the mound, he threw 4 1/3 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked 4, gave up 6 runs and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Tyler Knott, entered the game in the 5th inning, he threw 4 2/3 innings to earned the win. He gave up just one hit, one walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. The Rockets were led by Kyle Knott and John Sawatzky. Kyle went 2-4 with a double for 3 big RBI’s, he walked and he scored a run. John went 3-3 with 2 doubles for 3 RBI’s, he walked and he scored a run. Mike Jeseritz continued to roam left field, he went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and Eric Hulterstrum went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Tyler Steen went 2-5 and he scored 2 runs and Justin Koenen earned a walk and he scored a walk. Calvin Kosminskas, walked, earned a RBI and he scored a run and Jordan Smith walked twice and he scored a run.

The “A” starting pitcher Zach Iten, he went 1 2/3 innings, he gave up 4 hits, 4 walks and he surrendered 7 runs. Jordan Flick, a draftee from the Dassel Saints entered the game, he threw 6 1/3 innings of relief, he scattered 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Nate Norman went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and Jesse Berg went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Kevin Jaunich went 2-5 and he scored a run and Adam Schleper went 1-3 with 2 walks and he scored a run. Cody Kielsa went 1-2 and Joey Althoff, earned 2 walks, a RBI and he scored a run. Hunter Hart earned one walk and Jeff Althoff earned a pair of walks.

LAKEWOOD LEAGUE (REGION 7B)

BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 16  COON RAPIDS RED BIRDS 5 (8 Innings) 8/20/16 @ Litchfield)

The Beaudreaus defeated the Coon Rapids Red Birds from the Minny Metro League and Region 2B champions. The Saints pounded out 17 hits to defeat the Red Birds in 8 innings, by the ten run rule. The Saints starting pitcher, Brad Haag, threw 4 innings, 5 hits, 3 walks and he record 2 strikeouts. Dominic Austing entered the game in the 5th inning, he threw 4 very good innings, to earn the win, he gave up just one hit and recorded one strikeout. The Saints had several players that had great games, Jeff Fasching had a great game, he went 2-5 with two doubles for 3 RBI’s and he walked and he scored a run. Steve Neutzling, had a good game, he went 3-5 with 2 RBI’s and Jason Kotschevar had a good game, he went 3-5 with a home run for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Brian Minks continue to pound the ball, he went 2-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s, he walked once and he scored 2 runs. Nick Maiers had a big game, he went 3-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s, a pair of walks, and he scored 4 runs. Thomas Imholte went 2-3 with a RBI, he walked 3 times and he scored 3 runs and Ryan Schneider went 1-5 with a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Waylon Bemboom went 1-4 with a walk, stolen base and he scored 2 runs.  Nick Hengel had a RBI by way of a fielder’s choice, he was hit by a pitch and he scored a run and Will Spaniol scored a run.

The starting pitcher for the Red Birds, Steve Schroer threw 2 1/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, 3 walks, 9 runs and he had a pair of strikeouts. Jake Bruner threw 3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, one walk, 5 runs and he had a pair of strikeouts. The Birds also used three others in relief to try to slow down the Saints. Dan Skog had a good game, he had a double and he scored run and Zac Sather had 2 RBI’s, he walked and he scored a run. Kean Paxton went 1-4 with a RBI and Justin Reeves went 1-3 with a RBI’s. Jake Paulson went 1-3 with a homerun, Jake Poehler went 1-1, Tyler Stein walked and he scored a pair of runs and Jon Olson walked and he scored a run.

AUSTIN GREYHOUNDS 3   COLD SPRING SPRINGERS 2  (11 Innings) 8/20/16 @ Litchfield)

The Austin Greyhounds of the Southern Minny League and Region 4B Champion, behind the pitching of a pair of right handers. Nels Nelson threw 5 2/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, 1 walk, 2 runs and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Logan Spitzak threw 5 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win, he scattered 3 hits, 4 walks and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Matt Raso went 2-3 with a huge home run in the top of the 11th inning for the winning run. Daniel Bollingberg went 2-5 with a RBI. Jordan Hart went 2-4 and Matt Cano went 1-5. Tyler Nelson went 1-5 with a stolen base and Logan Spitzak went 1-5 and he scored a run. John Frein earned a pair of walks, Gabe Kasak scored a run and Chris May earned a walk.

The Springers did collect ten hits, but three base running mistakes really hurt them, these all occurred with no outs twice and one out the other time. Zach Femrite started on the mound, he threw a complete game. He scattered 9 hits, walked 5, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Report has it that he threw about 170 pitches in this game. Brian Hansen went 2-6 with a double and he scored a run and Garrett Fuchs went 2-5 and he scored a run. Drew Van Loy went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and he walked. Zach Femrite went 2-5 with a walk and Joe Dempsey went 1-4 with a walk. Eric Loxtercamp walked, was hit by a pitch, had a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt. Alex Jungels had a sacrifice bunt and Jeron Terres earned a walk. Ryan Holthaus, had a very good game behind the plate, with his pitch calling and fine defensive play. The Springers end their season with a 31-8 record.   Lakewood League Champions, Region 7B Champions, Shakopee/Jordan “Coors Light” Championship and the Nic Bell championship with 3 wins over Class A opponents.

SAUK VALLEY LEAGUE (REGION 1C)

FOLEY LUMBERJACKS 6 FARMING FLAMES 4 (8/20/16 @ Brownton)

The Lumberjacks defeated the Farming Flames of the Stearns County League and the No.  4 seed from region 15C. The Lumberjacks put up 2 runs in the 3rd inning and it stayed that way till the top of the 7th inning, when the Flames put 2 runs on the board. The Lumberjacks came back with a run in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Flames put up 2 runs in the top of the 8th, to take the lead only to have the Lumberjacks come back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead at 6-4. There was a great crowd in attendance at this game, the stands were packed.

The Lumberjacks, Derek Graves, draftee from the Mora Blue Devils started on the mound, he threw 8 innings, he scattered 10 hits and he recorded 15 strikeouts, to earn the win. Tyler Kornstedt, draftee from the Rum River Bandits, threw the final inning in relief, to earn the save, he recorded one strikeout. The Lumberjacks were led by their leadoff hitter, a junior to be in high school, Noah Winkelman, he went 3-5 with a stolen base and 46-year-old play/manager Mike Beier went 2-4 and he scored a run. Tony Stay went 1-4 with a double for 2 big RBI’s and he earned a walk. Hunter Hamers had a very good game, he went 1-2, with a pair of walks, 2 stolen bases and he scored 2 runs. Cameron Jurek went 1-3, he walked and he scored a run, Sam Keeler went 1-3 and he scored a run and Tyler Midas earned a walk.

The Flames starting pitcher, lefty Brad Mergen, he threw 7 1/3 innings, he scattered 8 hits, 4 walks, surrendered 6 runs and he recorded 8 strikeouts. Jordan Roos, draftee from the Roscoe Rangers, threw 2/3 inning of relief, he gave up one hit. The Flames were led by Mitchell Thelen, he went 3-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Father Aaron Nett went 2-2, he was hit twice by a pitch and he scored a run. Taylor Fourre went 2-4 and he scored a run and Brad Mergen went 1-5 with a RBI. Joel Klein went 1-4 and he scored a run, Craig Klein went 1-4 and Chris Wehseler was hit by a pitch.

BLUE EARTH AREA PIRATES 6 ST. JOSEPH JOES 0 (8/21/16 @ Brownton)

The Blue Area Pirates of the 13/60 League and the Region 4C runner up defeated the Joes of the Sauk Valley League, No. 3 seed from Region 1C, in a very well-played game. The Pirates scored their run early in the game and it remained 1-0 till the bottom of the 8th inning. The Pirates put of 5 runs for a 6-0 lead going into the 9th inning. The Joes in the top of the 8th inning left the potential tying run on third base after they grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Pirates starting pitcher, veteran, lefty hander, Aaron Wendt threw a complete game. He scattered 5 hits, issued no walks and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Brandyn Olsen went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and John Franta went 2-2 with a RBI, he walked and he was hit by a pitch. Lee Hodges went 1-3 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a run and Kane Malo went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Bobby Olson went 1-2 with a walk, Cody Sukalski had a RBI and Kaylan Legred scored a run.

The Joes starting pitcher, Greg Anderson, threw 4 innings, he scattered 4 hits, walked one and he gave up a run. Jeff Amann, draftee from the Sartell Stone Poneys, threw 3 innings of relief, he gave just 2 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Joe Stock threw the final, he gave up 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Ethan Carlson went 2-4 and Joe Stock went 1-4. Hunter Blommer went 1-3 and Zach Overboe went 1-1 for the Joes offense. The Joes did play some great defense in this game, Alex Kendall played a great game at 3rd base, making several very good plays. The outfield of Peter Nelson, Ethan Carlson and Hunter Blommer made some great plays thru out the game.

STEARNS COUNTY (REGION 15C)

ST. MARTIN MARTINS 4  MONTGOMERY MALLARDS 3 (8/20/16 @ Dassel)

The Martins defeated the Montgomery Mallards of the DRS League (Dakota, Rice and Scott) and the No. 2 seed from Region 3C. The Martins starting pitcher, Ben Schroeder threw 8 innings, he scattered 8 hits, 1 walk, he surrendered 3 runs and he recorded 6 strikeouts to earn the win. Patrick Courtney, draftee from the New London-Spicer Twins, threw the final inning, to earn the save, he faced just 3 batters in the 9th inning. This was a very well-played game by both teams. Kyle Leiser went 2-5 with a RBI and he scored two runs. Kyle continues to play great defense at his shortstop position. Bryan Schlangen went 2-4 with a RBI, one walk and he had a stolen base. Bryan also played and called a great game from his catcher position. Austin Arceneau went 1-3 with a walk and he scored a run and Matthew Schlangen went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt. Jared Overman went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and Michael Schlangen went 1-4. Taylor Holthaus, walked, had a stolen base and he scored a run.

The Mallards starting pitcher, Johnny Krocak threw 7 innings, he scattered 7 hits, 2 walks, he surrendered 4 runs and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Ted Christian threw 1 2/3 inning of relief, he gave up a hit, walked 2 and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Daniel Feneis, a draftee from the Union Hill Bulldogs, retired one batter with a strikeout. Pat Lloyd went 2-5 and he scored a run and Mike Flicek went 1-4 with a RBI. Ryan Iverson went 1-4 with a RBI and Johnny Krocak went 1-4, he had a stolen base and he scored a run. Trevor Smisek went 1-4 and Dalton Zeug went 1-4.

REGAL EAGLES 4  SHAKOPEE COYOTES 2  (12 Innings) 8/20/16 @ Dassel)

The Regal Eagles defeated the Shakopee Coyotes from the DRS League (Dakota, Rice, Scott) from Region 3C, the No. 3 seed. The Eagles were led by the great pitching of Chris Beier and the hitting of Nathan Meyer. Chris threw 7 innings, he scattered 7 hits, walked 2 and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Brian Kingery, draftee from the Atwater Chuckers, threw 5 innings of relief to earn the win. He gave up just 2 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts.  Nathan Meyer went 4-5 with 2 doubles and a walk off 2 run home run in the bottom of the 12th inning with 2 outs. Nathan had 3 big RBI’s and he scored a pair of runs. Chris Beier, had a big game too, he went 2-5 with a RBI and Blake Karsch went 3-5. Jordan Beier went 2-6 and he scored 2 runs and Josh Beier went 1-5. Derek Dengerud went 1-5 and Nathan Beier had sacrifice bunts. All in all, the Beier family had a great day, along with Mike Beier the player/manager for the Foley Lumberjacks, they won and Mike went 2-4 and he scored a run.  I would say Buddy had an awesome day to remember.

The starting pitcher for the Coyotes, Alex Johnson, also threw the entire game, he went 11 2/3, he scattered 9 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Matt Theis led their offense, he went 1-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s. Logan Becker went 3-6 and he scored a run and Scott Bode went 1-3 with a pair of walks and he scored a run. Zak Hoffman went 1-5 and he was hit by a pitch and Alex Pauly went 1-6. Andy Lazzari went 1-5 and Tanner Graff went 1-5.

EXHIBITION GAME

SARTELL MUSKIES 2   WATKINS CLIPPERS 0  (8/21/16 @ Sartell)

The Central Minnesota Class C powers clashed at Sartell on Sunday afternoon for an exhibition game. The Sartell Muskies, the Sauk Valley League champions and Region 1C champions, defeated the Waktins Clippers the Central Valley Champion and the Region 11C champions 2-0. Both teams used several pitchers in this 9 inning battle, for the Muskies lefty Johnny Schumer, he threw 3 innings, he gave up just one hit, walked one and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Adam Wenker, threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and he recorded a strikeout. Cody Partch threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up a hit and he recorded 4 strikeouts.  David Deminsky threw the final 2 innings to earn the win, he walked one and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Tim Burns had a big day for the Muskies, he went 2-4 with 2 doubles for 2 RBI’s and Adam Schellinger went 2-4 and he scored a run. Jace Otto went 1-4 with a stolen base and Luke Sweeter went 1-4 and Andrew Deters went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run. The game was scoreless till the 8th inning, when the Muskies had a pair of singles from Adam Schellinger and Andrew Deters, followed by a wild pitch and then Time Burns second double off the fence in right center field to drive in both Adam and Andrew.

The Clippers starting pitcher, lefty Matt Geislinger, threw 5 strong innings, he gave up just 2 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Lefty, Austin Klaverkamp, a draftee from the Luxemburg Brewers, threw inning of relief, he recorded one strikeout. Dylan Gass, a draftee from the Bird Island Bull Frogs threw 1 inning, he gave up one hit and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Lefty T. J. Frericks threw one inning, he gave up 3 hits, 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout, he was the pitcher of record. Veteran Lefty Dan Berg, threw the final inning, he faced 5 batters. Adam Hiltner went 1-3 with a double and Kevin Kramer went 1-4. Dan Berg went 1-4 and Brendan Ashton went 1-2 and he was hit by a pitch. Kevin Kramer went 1-4, Bryan Benson earned a walk and Gary Peters earned a walk.
