KNSI Radio’s Central MN Baseball Round-Up (April 27)

Back for a third season at KNSI with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County South teams this season and the upcoming schedule for each league including tournament and exhibition games. In addition the league standings thru out the season.

CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE

April 24th Sunday 2:00:

Cold Spring @ Kimball (Postponed)

STEARNS COUNTY LEAGUE

LAKE HENRY LAKERS 5, FARMING FLAMES 2 (4/24/16 @ Lake Henry)

The Lakers topped the Flames in first Stearns County League game of this young season, behind the pitching efforts of Weston Brinkman. Weston started on the mound for the Lakers and he went 4 innings, gave up 3 hits, 1 run, walked 1 and he recorded 4 strike outs. Jason Kampsen threw 5 innings to earn the win, he gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and he recorded 3 strike outs. Shane Kampsen went 1-3 with a 2 run homer and he walked 2 times and brother Jason Kampsen went 1-4 with a solo home run and he walked once. Mitch Weidner went 3-4 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Josh Kampsen went 1-14 with a double, he was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base. Ryan Wuertz went 2-4 with a double, hit by pitch and he scored a run. Matthew Quade went 1-5 and Weston Brinkman had 2 sacrifice bunts and a stolen base. 

Brad Mergen started on the mound for the Flames, he went 3 innings, gave up 2 hit, 3 runs, 3 walks and he recorded 7 strike outs, Brad was the pitcher of record. Aaron Nett threw 4 innings of relief, he gave up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and he recorded 3 strike outs. Chad Mergen threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 1 hit, 1 run, 2 walks and he had a strike out. Brad Mergen led the Flames offense, he went 2-4 with a double, he walked and scored a run. Mitchell Thelen went 1-5 with a double and Aaron EIynk went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run. Chris Wehseler went 1-3 with a double and a RBI and he walked, Craig Klein went 1-4 and Dylan Panek had a RBI.

MEIRE GROVE GROVERS 4, ROSCOE RANGERS 1 (4/24/16 @ Roscoe)

The Grovers topped the Rangers in their first Stearns County League behind the starting pitching of Matt Imdieke. He threw 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1walk and he recorded 4 strike outs. Jacob Imdieke closed out the game with 2 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and he recorded 3 strike outs. This was a scoreless game till the 8th inning, when the Grovers sent nine batters to the plate.  They scored 4 runs and the Rangers scored their lone run in the 9th inning. Tanner Klaphake went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Jaron Klaphake went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s and Trevor Sawyer walked, this forced in a run in the 8th inning. Kyle Marthaler went 1-4 and scored a run and Andrew Welle went 1-4.

The Rangers starting pitcher, Josh Mackendanz threw 7 1/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Brandon Schleper threw 1 2/3 inning of relief, he gave a hit, 1 run, 3 walks and he recorded 1 strike out. Cody Mackendanz was 1-1 with a RBI and Brandon Scheleper went 1-3 with a stolen base. Jordan Schleper went 1-4, Brent Heinen went 1-3, Josh Leyendecker went 1-1 and Chris Vanderbeck walked and scored a run.

VICTORY LEAGUE

ST. STEPHEN STEVES 19, FREEPORT BLACK SOX 7 (4/23/16 @ Freeport)

The Steves put runs on the board in every inning, except for the first inning. They pounded out 20 hits, they took advantage of the east/south east  wind, that was blowing out to right center and right. Many of the balls hit that way, was seriously affected by the wind. The Steve’s big inning was when they put up 6 runs in the 8th inning. Dylan Hollenkamp had a huge night at the plate, as he went 5-7 with a triple and a double for 5 big RBI’s. Player/manager Ben Omann had a good night at the plate, he went 4-6 with a double, walk and 2 RBI’s and he scored 3 runs. Austin Guggenberg went 3-5 with a triple, 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s, plus he walked and scored 4 runs. Nick Krippner went 3-5 with a double, 1 RBI, walked and scored 3 runs and Brandon Waldvogel went 2-4, he walked 3 times, 1 stolen base and he scored 4 runs. Bo Schmitz went 1-4 with 2 sacrifice flys for 3 RBI’s, he walked and scored a run. Alex Wolhart went 1-3 with a double, 2 walks, 1 RBI and he scored 2 runs and T. J. Bevans went 1-4 and he was hit twice by a pitch. Andy Stolt started on the mound for the Steves, he went 4 2/3 innings and Nick Krippner went 2 1/3 innings to earn the win and Bo Schmitz closed it out with 2 innings of relief, he recorded  6 strike outs and he walked one.

For the Black Sox; Ryan Tschida went 3-4 with a double and a RBI, he walked and scored 2 runs. Troy Frieler went 2-5 with a 2 run homer and a 2 run double for 4 big RBI’s and Carter Sawyer went 2-4 with a double for a 1 RBI, he had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Mitch Waldvogel went 2-5 and scored a run and Chad Hess went 1-4, he walked and scored a run. Craig Meyer was the starting pitcher for the Black Sox’s, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 5 hits, 3 runs and he recorded 6 strike outs. Carter Sawyer was the pitcher of record, he threw 3 innings of relief. Tommy Benson closed out the final 2 innings for the Black Sox’s.

ST. WENDEL SAINTS 8, HOLDINGFORD EXPRESS 1 (4/24/16 @ St. Wendel)

The Saints put six runs on the board in the 6th inning to defeat Victory League South rivals the Express. John Pogatchnik started on the mound for the Saints, he threw 4 innings, gave up 4 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs and he recorded 4 strike outs. Max Posch earned the pitching win, with 3 innings of relief, gave up 1 hit, 1 walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Kyle Jarnot threw 2 innings of relief to close it out, he gave up 1 run, 1 hit, 1 walk and he recorded 2 strikeouts. John Pogatchnik went 2-3, he walk 2 times and he scored 2 runs. Jake Braegelmann went 1-5,  scored a run and he had a RBI, Lee Maciez went 1-5 and he scored a run and Keaton Gustin went 2-5.

The Express was led by Derek Biniek’s 3-3 performance at the plate. Ian Hoffarth had a good day, as he went 2-4 with a double and Travis Thielen went 1-4. Derek Thielen was the starting pitcher, he went 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 0 runs and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Jon Springer threw 2 innings of relief, Ian Hoffarth threw 2/3 and Jeremy Spring threw 1/3 of a inning.

EXHIBITION GAMES

COKATO KERNELS 6, KIMBALL EXPRESS 4 (4/23/16 at Kimball)

The Kernels topped the Express with a pair of runs in the 1st and four runs in the second. The Express did score a pair of runs in the both the 1st and 2nd but that was it, as the score stood thru out. Isaac Nelson led the Kernels offense with a 3-4 day, he walked, scored a run and he had a RBI. Ethan Niemela went 2-4 and he scored a run. Tommy Halonen went 1-5 with 2 RBI’s and Dalton Asplin went 1-4 with a RBI. Dalton Asplin was credited with the pitching win, with one inning work. The Express brought Pat Arnold out of retirement, as he started on the mound for them. He threw 2 innings and he gave up 6 runs, 3 of the runs were earned runs. Aaron Knaus threw 3 innings of relief, he walked one. Then Joey VonWahlde took the mound, he threw strong innings of relief. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 4 strike outs. Scott Marquardt led the Express’s offense, as he went 2-4, he scored a run and he had a sacrifice fly for a RBI. Brooks Marquardt went 1-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Jordan Joseph went 1-4 with a stolen base and Blake Boran went 1-3 and he was hit by a pitch. Adam Beyer had a RBI on a fielder’s choice, Ben Johnson walked 2 times and he had a stolen base. Zach and Matt Dingmann both a scored a run for the Express.

ST. AUGUSTA GUSSIES 3, CLEAR LAKE LAKERS 2 (7 Innings) (4/20/16 at St. Augusta)

The Gussies scored in the bottom the 7th inning on a walk off single by Adam Gwost, with two outs in the inning. Cousin Mitch Gwost scored the winning run after walking for the second time in the game. Nate Laudenbach had a RBI, stolen base and he scored a run and Zach Laudenbach had a double. Dustin Schultzetenburg walked and stole second and he scored a run. Brady Graft had a RBI with his sacrifice fly and he walked. Travis Laudenbach was the starting pitcher, he threw 3 innings and Zach Laundebach threw three innings of relief. Nate Laundenbach was credited with the pitching win with one inning of relief. There was no game information report by the Clear Lake Lakers for this game.
