Jordan/Shakopee to host 2015 Coors Light Classic

The Jordan Brewers and Shakopee Indians of the River Valley League are set to host the 2015 Jordan/Shakopee Coors Light Classic on July 10-12. Eight teams, including the hosts, will participate in the pool-play tournament. Moorhead is the reigning champion, as they defeated Jordan 9-3 for the 2014 crown.

Pool A: Jordan, Cold Spring Springers, Moorhead Brewers, Blue Earth

Pool B: Shakopee, Minnetonka, St. Michael, Red Wing

Friday, July 10

Jordan

6 p.m. – Blue Earth vs. Jordan

8 p.m. – Cold Spring vs. Moorhead

Shakopee

6 p.m. – Minnetonka vs. Shakopee

8 p.m. – Red Wing vs. St. Michael

Saturday, July 11

Jordan

11 a.m. – Moorhead vs. Jordan

1 p.m. – Minnetonka vs. Red Wing

3 p.m. – Cold Spring vs. Jordan

6 p.m. -St. Michael vs. Minnetonka

Shakopee

11 a.m. – Blue Earth vs. Cold Spring

1 p.m. – St. Michael vs. Shakopee

3 p.m. – Moorhead vs. Blue Earth

6 p.m. – Red Wing vs. Shakopee

The 2015 Coors Light Classic boasts lots of tough competition. Six out of the eight teams are ranked within the top 10 of their respective classes latest polls, including the No. 1 ranked Class A and Class B squads. Here is how the participants stack up:

Jordan Brewers

  • Ranked No. 8 Class C
  • Jordan is 18-8 on the season, and 5-0 in River Valley League play.
  • Currently on a four-game winning streak, and had a 10-game winning streak from 5/31-6/18.
  • Wins over Shakopee, Moorhead, Chanhassen
  • SS/P Joe Lucas is batting .361 with 30 hits in 83 at bats. Two homeruns, 10 RBI, 12 stolen bases.

Cold Spring Springers

  • Ranked No. 1 Class B, back-to-back State Champions (2013 & 2014)
  • Cold Spring has a record of 17-3, and is undefeated at home.
  • Champions of the Victoria Tournament with wins over Blaine, Midway, and Moorhead.
  • Currently on a 13-game winning streak.
  • Justin Thompson is batting .373 with 12 RBI. He is also the Springer’s ace on the mound with a 7-1 record with a 1.92 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched.

Moorhead Brewers

  • Ranked No. 9 Class B
  • 11-4 record on the season, with solid wins over Fergus Falls, Victoria
  • C/IF Tanner Adam is batting .379 with 22 hits in 58 at bats including four doubles and 11 RBI.
  • Tom Fuchs has three homers with 17 RBI.

Blue Earth Pirates

  • Ranked No. 9 Class C
  • 16-3 record on the season, started off 10-0 before losing to Renner, SD in the championship game at the Belle Plaine Tigertown Classic.
  • P/OF Brandyn Olsen in batting .442 with 23 hits in 52 at bats including three homeruns and 21 RBI. 
  • Wins over St. Louis Park and Austin.

Shakopee Indians

  • Ranked No. 4 Class B
  • Record of 15-6, with wins over Jordan, Chaska, Mankato, and Minneapolis Cobras.
  • INF Aaron Olson is batting .431 with 31 hits in 72 at bats including 10 doubles and 24 RBI. 
  • Pitcher Chris Rupert is the Indian’s Ace with a 4-1 record and a 1.48 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.

Minnetonka Millers 

  • Ranked No. 1 Class A
  • 28-1 record, 2014 State runner-up
  • Champions of the 2015 SPAMtown Classic and Dundas Tournament

St. Michael Saints

  • 2-6 record
  • Victory over Dundas

Red Wing Aces

  • 9-7 record
  • Wins over Hampton and Miesville
