Game of the Week: Miesville overpowers Red Wing on 4th of July

An Independence Day matchup on the afternoon of the fourth featured Classic Cannon Valley League and Section 1B rivals Miesville and Red Wing. Miesville’s strong hitting took down Red Wing with a score of 14-5.

Previously on May 25, Red Wing defeated Miesville by a score of 5-3. The second game was a different story, resulting in 14 runs on 17 hits from the Mudhens from Miesville. Miesville allowed five runs on eight hits to the Aces of Red Wing.

Miesville’s offense was highlighted by several stellar performances at the plate. Catcher Nate Hammes had four hits including one double and four runs scored. Designated hitter Chuck Bruchu and shortshop Deryk Marks both had three hits and four runs batted in. Third baseman Chris Olean also had three hits and pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit.

Starting pitcher Steve Maher pitched a solid 7.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and notching seven strikeouts.

Miesville got the scoring started right away in the first inning, batting around the order and scoring five runs. Red Wing pitcher Brady Schroeder struggled to throw strikes right away, walking the first two batters. He then allowed four hits including two doubles and a hit batter.

Red Wing came right back in the bottom half of inning one, adding two runs on two hits from Adam Thygesen and Steve Boldt. Boldt led the way for the Aces with two hits and one RBI.

Miesville scored one run in the third, fourth, fifth, and two in the seventh and eighth for a total of 14. Red Wing added two runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth for a total of five.

Steve Maher recorded the win for Miesville, and Brady Schroeder received the loss for Red Wing.

Miesville moves to 13-5 on the season, and Red Wing now has a record of 9-7.
