Freeport now under the lights

Posted on May 25, 2013 by CJ Siewert

For the past six years, the Freeport Black Sox have been playing ball at Black Sox Park during the hours of daylight. That all changed on May 17 as they began first round games for the 7th Annual Black Sox Tournament. Upsala defeated Spring Hill 9-4 in the first game under the lights, while the host Black Sox made quick work of the St. Could Snappers 18-0 in a full game under light not provided by the sun.

Freeport wound up claiming the title of the tourney with a 3-2 win over the St. Paul Roosters, while Spring Hill took the consolation championship 9-2 over New Market.

The first league game under the lights at Freeport happened tonight as St. Mathias defeated the Black Sox 8-6.

Congrats to the Sox on constructing lights at their home park. Just another amateur park improving the already impressive resume of town team fields in Minnesota.
