Cold Spring, Beaudreau’s go 3-0 at Nic Bell Classic

Cold Spring Springers 11 Marshall A’s 3  (7 Innings) (Cold Spring 7/17)

The Springers topped their regional rival the Marshall A’s behind the pitching performance of Justin Thompson. Justin threw 7 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked 2 and he had 10 strikeouts. Joe Dempsey may have had his best day as a Springer, he went 4-4 with 2 doubles, scored 3 runs and he had 3 RBI’s.  Drew VanLoy once again made some very good defensive plays at 3rd base and he went 1-3, walked and he had a 2 run homer for 2 big RBI’s. Zach Hinkemeyer went 2-3 and he scored 2 runs and Alex Jungels went1-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s. Ryan Holthaus went 1-3 and he scored a run and Zach Femrite went 1-3 and he scored a run. Travis McGlauflin was the pitcher of record for the A’s, gave up 9 hits, 6 runs and he had 3 strikeouts. Lee Zeer threw 1 inning of relief. Andrew Kinnery had a good game for the A’s as he went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a RBI. Noah Winkelman went 1-3, he scored a run and he had a RBI and Ben Korger went 2-3 and he scored a run.

St. Cloud Beadreaus Saints 5 Minneapolis Cobras 0 (7 In.)  (Cold Spring 7/17)

The Beadreaus Saints had a very impressive win over a Class A team.  The Cobras are leading the Park National League with a 12-3 mark and 27-10 overall record. They had a very recent win over the Elko Express, the number 1 ranked Class B team in Minnesota.  Jeff Fasching the red shirt freshman at the University of Minnesota had a good pitching performance. He threw 5 2/3 innings, gave up just 1 hit, walked 1, hit 2 batters and he had 3 strikeouts. Nick Maiers threw 1 1/3 innings of relief, he walked 1 and he had 3 strikeouts. Steve Neutzling had a good game, he went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Ryan Schneider had another good game at the plate, he went 2-3, he had a double, walked and scored a run. Nick Hengel went 2-4, he scored and he had a RBI and Waylon Bemboom went 1-2 and he scored and was hit by a pitch. Chad Hockemeyer went 1-2 with a walk and Brian Minks went 2-3 with a walk. Zach Musterman was the pitcher of record for the Cobras, he threw all 7 innings. He gave up 10 hits, walked 3, surrendered 5 runs and he had 4 strikeouts. Sean Borman went 1-2 and was hit by a pitch and Sam Bunnett walked. Matt Bormen was hit by a pitch and J. E. Urseth walked.

Cold Spring Springers 11 Bemidji Bucks 1  (5 Innings) (Cold Spring 7/18)

The Springers topped the Bucks in just 5 innings, behind the pitching of right hander Reed Pfannestein and the 16 hits the Springers pounded out. Reed Pfannestein threw 5 innings, scattering 4 hits, he walked 1 and he had 5 strikeouts. Joe Dempsey continues to swing a hot bat, he went 2-3 with a homerun and a run scored. Ryan Holthaus had his best game at the plate and he called a great game behind the plate, he went 3-3, scored 3 runs and he had a RBI. Drew VanLoy continues to swing a hot bat, he went 3-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Eric Loxtercamp played great game in center field and he went 2-3, walked scored 3 runs and he had 2 RBI’s. Zach Femrite went 2-3 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI, Jeron Terres went 2-3, he had a stolen base and he scored a run and Zach Hinkemeyer went 1-3  and he scored a run. Luke Benge was the pitcher of record for the Bucks, walked 1 and he had 1 strikeout. Mason Bellew went 1-2 with a RBI and Conner McNallen went 1-3 and he scored a run. Tyler Nelson went 1-2 and Jack Hegarty went 1-2 with a double.

Bemidji Bucks 7  Brainerd Bees 6  (8 innings) (Cold Spring 7/18)

The Bucks came from behind to top the Bees in extra innings, the Bees had taken a early lead of 5 runs scored in the 1st inning. Cody Benson was the starting pitcher for the Bucks, he gave up 8 hits, walked 5 and he had 4 strikeouts. Jack Hegarty earned the win with 2 innings of relief, he gave up a hit, walked 1 and he had 3 strikeouts. Tyler Nelson, led the Bucks offense with his 4-5 performance, he had a triple, scored a run and he had a RBI. Mason Bellew went 3-5 with 2 big RBI’s and Jack Hegarty went 3-4 with a home run to tie the game in the 7th inning. Steve Prichard went 2-3 with a sacrifice in the 8th inning to score the winning run. Connor McNallow went 2-5 and he scored a run and Nick Hovila went 1-4, scored 2 runs and had a stolen base. Luke Benge went 2-4 and Cody Jenkins went 1-4. Veteran right hand Tim Martin was the pitcher of record for the Bees, he threw all 8 innings. Tim and Joel Martin both had good days at the plate. Tim went 2-3, with a double, he scored a run and he had a RBI and Joel went 2-5 with a double and he scored a run. Kevin Peterson went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and he walked and scored a run and Paul Augustinack went 1-4 and he scored a run. Tristan Brecht went 1-4, walked and scored, Burrell Flanagan went 1-4, with a RBI and Bryce Flanagan went 1-4 and he scored a run.

Minneapolis Cobras 7 Brainerd Bees 3  (7 Innings) (Cold Spring 7/18)

The Cobras topped the Bees behind the pitching of former St. Cloud State and Sauk Rapids Cyclone pitcher Pat DeLaHunt. He threw 5 innings, scattering 9 hits, walked 4 and he had 4 strikeouts. J. E. Urseth earned the pitching win with 2 innings of relief. Matt Borman had a big game for the Cobras, as he went 2-4 with a double, with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run and Tyler Peterson went 2-4 with a RBI. Gabe MacDonald went 2-3, he walked and had a RBI and Sam Bunnett went 1-3, he walked and had a RBI. J. E. Urseth went 1-3 with a RBI. Mike Penatz went 1-3 and Pat DeLaHunt went 1-3 and he scored a run. Burrell Flanagan was the starting pitcher for the Bees, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, walked 4 and he surrendered 4 runs. The pitcher of record was Joel Martin, he threw a inning of relief, he gave up 2 hits and 2 runs. Bryce Flanagan went 2-3 with 2 doubles and a RBI and Joel Martin went 2-4 with a RBI. Tristan Brecht went 1-3 with a sacrifice and Paul Augustinack went 1-4. Kevin Peterson walked 2 times and McCale Peterson walked 2 times.

The Beadreaus topped their regional rivals the A’s behind the great pitching performance by Ryan Schneider. He threw all 7 innings, he scattered 4 hits, walked 1 and he had 8 strikeouts. Brian Minks had a great game at the plate, he went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Ryan Schneider went 1-4 with a double and a RBI and Jeff Fasching went 2-3, with a RBI and he scored a run. Steve Neutzling went 2-2 with a RBI and he scored a run. Nick Hengel went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked and was hit by a pitch and Waylon Bemboom had a sacrifice and he scored a run. Colton Smit was the pitcher of record for the A’s, he threw all 6 innings, he gave up 8 hits, walked 3 and he had 4 strikeouts. Andrew Kinney went 1-3 with a double, Lee Keer went 1-3, Noah Winkelman went 1-3 and Ben Sanders went 1-1 and he walked.

Cold Spring Springers 5 Minneapolis Cobras 2  (7 Innings) (Cold Spring 7/19)

The Springers topped Class A Cobras behind the great pitching performance by Drew VanLoy. Drew threw a complete game, scattered 5 hits, walked 1 and he had 2 strikeouts. Joe Dempsey had a great weekend, as he went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Ryan Holthaus had a very good day, called a great game behind the plate and he went 2-3 with a RBI. Eric Loxtercamp went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Drew VanLoy aided his own cause as he went 1-3 and he was hit by a pitch. Tyler Geislinger went 1-1 with a RBI and he walked, Zach Femrite went 1-1 and Zach Hinkemeyer scored a run. Alex Gustafson was the pitcher of record for the Cobras, he threw 6 innings, he gave up 8 hits, walked 1 and he had 2 strikeouts. Kahtan Al-Kaissy had a good game, going 2-3 with a home run and he scored a run. His home run broke up a no hitter that VanLoy took in to the 5th inning. Sam Bunnett went 1-3, Matt Borman went 1-3 and Tyler Patterson went 1-3.

The Beaudreaus Saints topped the young Bucks from Bemidji behind the pitching of Nick Denny and Brad Haag. Nick threw 4 innings, he gave up 8 hits, walked 2 and he had 3 strikeouts. Brad threw 3 innings, he gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and he had 4 strikeouts. Brian Minks had a great game for the Saints, as he went 3-3 and he scored 3 runs. Ryan Schneider went 1-1 with a double and 3 RBI’s and he walked 2 times. Jeff Fasching went 1-1 with a walk and 2 stolen bases and Steve Neutzling went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run. Jason Kotschevar went 2-4, he scored a run and he had a stolen base and, Chad Hockemeyer went 2-4 with a RBI and scored 2 runs and Will Spaniol went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Ryan Franson was the pitcher of record for the Bucks, he threw 5 innings, he gave up 11 hits, 6 walks and he had 4 strikeouts. Jack Hagerty threw 2 innings of relief, he walked 1 and he had 3 strikeouts. Nick Hovila went 1-4 with a RBI, he scored a run and he had a stolen base. Tyler Nelson had a good game, going 2-4 with a triple and a RBI and Conner McNullan went 3-4 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Mason Bellew went 1-3 with a walk, Cody Benson went 1-3 with a RBI and he walked and Cody Jenkins went 1-4. Jake Tuholsky went 1-3 and Jack Hegarty walked 2 times and he was credited with a RBI.

Marshall A’s  4  Brainerd Bees 3 (Cold Spring 7/19)

The A’s topped their regional rivals the Bees behind the pitching of Jordan Kontz and Travis McGlauflin. Jordan threw 6 innings, was the pitcher of record, he gave up 8 hits, walked 1 and he had a strikeout. Travis threw 1 inning to earn the save, he did issue 1 walk. Jordan Kontz went 1-3 with 2 stolen bases and he was hit by a pitch and Ben Korger went 1-4 with a stolen base. Conner Winkelman went 1-3, with 3 stolen bases, he walked and he scored 2 runs. Michael Marchese went 1-3, walked and scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Leo Zerr went 1-2 with a walk and Andrew Kinney walked and he was credited with a RBI. Blake Peterson was the pitcher of record and threw all 7 innings, he gave up just 5 hits, he walked 4 and he had 6 strikeouts. Player/Manager Tim Martin had a great day as he went 3-3 and Chris Karels went 1-3 with a double and a RBI. Blake Peterson went 1-3 with a RBI and Paul Augustinack went 1-4 and he scored a run. Joel Martin had a RBI and Bryce Flanagan scored a run.

The 2015 Cold Spring Nic Bell Classic begins on Friday July 17 and will play throughout the weekend. This year’s tournament consists of six teams who play three games each, which totals to nine games in three days at Cold Spring Baseball Park. The teams include host Cold Spring, Beaudreau’s Saints, Bemidji Bucks, Brainerd, Marshall, and the Minneapolis Cobras.

Cold Spring Springers

Back-to-back Class B state champion Cold Spring was recently bumped from the No. 1 Class B spot by Elko, and is now ranked No. 2. With a 21-4 record, the Springers had their 14-game winning streak snapped at the Coors Light Classic by Moorhead. Justin Thompson has had a tremendous season on the mound with a 9-1 record with a 1.48 ERA, including five complete games and 47 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched.

Beaudreau’s Saints

The Saints have a 9-8 record on the season including a runner-up finish at the Steans County Classic, and wins over Brainerd and Plato.

Bemidji Bucks

Bemidji has played well in their first season, with a record of 9-8. Bemidji’s Jack Hegarty threw a no-hitter against Beaudreau’s June 13.

Brainerd Bees

The Bees have a record of 2-8 on the season with wins over Fort Ripley and the Bemidji Bucks.

Marshall A’s

Marshall has a record of 9-8. Jordan Kontz has been a leader of the A’s offense, hitting .365 on the season with 23 hits in 63 at bats, and 17 RBI. Travis McGlauflin and Colton Smit have been the workhorses on the mound with 43 innings pitched each. McGlauflin boasts a 1.47 ERA and Smit has 47 strikeouts.

Minneapolis Cobras

The No. 4 Class A ranked Cobras has a 27-10 record on the season. The Cobras strong season includes three wins at the SPAMtown Challenge.
