news@mnbaseball.orgBlaine added extra runs to its 6-4 lead from a rainout on Saturday to eliminate Dundas 8-4 on Sunday, August 28 for the Class B quarterfinals in Miesville.

Blaine’s Jorun Hamre put runners on the corners in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single. It set up Zach Etter’s RBI single for a 7-4 lead. Hamre tried to add a run with two outs but got picked off when he darted for home.

Dundas put two runners on in the top of the seventh with two walks, but the Dukes came up short of making something happen as Jon Bishop struck out.

Blaine threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second base, but Marcus Riewer struck out on a fast ball.

Chris Olson added to Blaine’s lead in the eighth when he launched a home run over the right field wall to lead off the bottom of the inning. Dundas then made quick work of the next three batters to get out of the inning.

Drew Sathrum pinch hit for Dundas in the top of the ninth and singled, but the Dukes’ chances ended on a pop fly. Blaine advances to face Miesville on Friday, Sept. 2 in Miesville for the semifinals.

Champlin Park 13, Moorhead 8

Champlin Park caught lightning in a bottle before a rain delay stymied a Class B state tournament quarterfinal game with the Moorhead Brewers on Saturday.

The LoGators scored four runs in the first inning, another three in the third, and one in the fourth to build an 8-1 lead before the game got postponed in the fourth inning. Champlin Park and Moorhead resumed action on Sunday and the LoGators held on for a 13-8 victory.

Ethan Mocchi got things rolling for the LoGators in the first inning with an RBI single, which scored Sam Riola. Jeff Heuer then drove in Jack Puder on an RBI double. Mochi scored next on a fielder’s choice followed by Heuer’s run on Bryce Nelson’s RBI single.

Champlin Park struck again with Drake Siens solo home run in the third inning. Ryan Bruns added another run on an RBI single, scoring Bryce Nelson. Riola then made it 7-0 as Aaron Urlaub scored.

Moorhead got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the third when Denver Blinn hit a sacrifice fly as Bradyen Jacobson scored. The Logators answered with an RBI double by Siens, scoring Heuer.

Moorhead started Sunday strong with a run by Nick Salentine in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the LoGators answered again. Puder hit an RBI  single, scoring Riola, and then scored his own run as the LoGators went up 10-2 in the top of the sixth.

The Brewers then caught wind, literally, of a way back into the game with two home runs over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh. Wind blowing toward the right field wall carried balls hit that direction in the final innings of the game.

Jayse McLean went over the left field wall first for a 2-run home run with Mike Preschel scoring. Spencer Flaten followed it up with a 3-run home run, also scoring Joe Hallock and Salentine.

Champlin Park responded with a 2-run home run by Riola to make it 12-7 in the top of the seventh. The LoGators pitching and fielding held off the Brewers from there as the Brewers mustered only one more run.

Moorhead’s season ended as Champlin Park advanced to the final weekend. The LoGators will face Rochester on Friday in Miesville.
