Fielding a wet baseball can be tricky.

The Miesville Mudhens put that hypothesis to the test early on in the opening game of the Class B state tournament Friday night at Chaska Athletic Park.

The Mudhens led 5-0 after three-and-a-half innings against the Chaska Cubs before play was suspended due to inclement weather.

The Mudhens attempted six bunts in the first two innings with three hits, a reach on an error and a sacrifice doing damage.

Joey Werner swung the lumber to drive a triple to the left centerfield fence to plate two of Miesville’s three runs in the second inning.

Jacob Dickmeyer started on the mound for Miesville and was still in the game. Chaska, the visitors on the scoreboard, started Ryan Rodriguez. He was relieved by Drake Kilber.

The game will be resumed at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday at Chaska Athletic Park following the completion of the 4:30 p.m. Class C game between the Stark Longhorns and Foley Lumberjacks.
