Class B Rankings: May 11 Edition

–by Brett Kruschke

With this first Class B poll of the season, each of the three classes now has one in the books. The voting will continue in some form until Friday, however, via the MBA’s Twitter poll – click here to vote. There have been 109 votes cast so far.

We will also have the Chaska Herald’s Eric Kraushar as a pollster for the bulk of the season, but he was duly pardoned this week as his wife just gave birth to their third child. Congrats, Kraushars!

All of the rest of last year’s Class B pollsters are back in the saddle for another go, so check out their thoughts below:

AARON OLSON – Shakopee

  1. Dundas (2-0) Defending champs and have everyone back
  2. Elko (4-0) Very talented team with a big squad that can hit!
  3. Moorhead – Always a good team with their core group back
  4. Cold Spring (1-0) Femrite and crew back at it
  5. Shakopee (2-0) Should be better this year with bigger roster
  6. Chaska (1-1) Lost tough one to Jordan this weekend but will be good all year
  7. Blaine (3-0) Always add players to help strong pitching
  8. Eagan – Made good run in State last year
  9. Chanhassen – added even more talent to team this year, but still young team
  10. Forest Lake — Good hitting team

Honorable Mention: Miesville, Coon Rapids – both haven’t played yet.

JAMIE HEIPEL – Blaine

  1. Dundas :  (2-0 ) Defending State Champs to go along with two nice wins to start season.
  2. Moorhead : My belief they will be the best team in Class “B” in 2016
  3. Cold Spring : ( 1-0 ) They are the Springers and they win.
  4. Shakopee : ( 2-0 ) Nice start for an always very good team.
  5. Elko : ( 4-0 ) Another strong start to the regular season for the Express.
  6. Blaine : ( 3-0 ) Several great new additions,  some departures to key players but will it matter.
  7. Forest Lake : ( 2-0 ) Good start to an always underrated team unless you play them.
  8. Coon Rapids :  Only this low because they have not played a game. Nice deep run at tourney last year and expected to again this year.
  9. Eagan : Never play many games but are very solid team when end of season rolls around.
  10. Victoria : Bounce-back year for the Vics, too good to be done early again.

Mentions : St. Cloud, Austin Hounds, Chaska, Champlin

MATT MAREK – Champlin

  1. Dundas – Defending champs get the nod for the top spot
  2. Miesville – Bret Mitchell will be a really nice addition on the hill.
  3. Blaine – Some significant turnover, but most losses will be offset by strong additions
  4. Cold Spring – Would be surprised if they’re not around Labor Day weekend
  5. Elko – Odd man out in a three-horse section race last year.
  6. Moorhead – Will this be the year they get that elusive title?
  7. Chanhassen – A lot of nice additions to go along with strong young core
  8. Coon Rapids – Loss of Patrick O’Donnell will sting a bit, but added Alex Glick (DMACC) to an already strong staff
  9. Shakopee – Veteran club that always seem to get it done
  10. Forest Lake – College guys are healthy, whole core returns. One arm away from making a deep run IMO

HM: Chaska, Eagan, Victoria, Austin Hounds, Beaudreau’s Saints

KELLY McMONAGLE – Moorhead

1. Dundas – defending champs
2. Blaine – talented squad every year looking for their regular season success to translate into wins at the state tournament level
3. Elko – put together some nice seasons the last couple years
4. Moorhead – nice mix of veterans and youth came close last year
5. Cold Spring – perennial powerhouse always in the mix at tournament time
6. Coon Rapids –  looking to build on the state tournament wins from last year
7. Shakopee –  top-level talent coming from the best Section in the entire state
8. Chaska –  see above
9. Eagan –  some good runs the last couple years in the tournament has them in the hunt every year
10. St. Cloud –  young group have good balance of pitching and offense
