Class B Rankings: June 21 Edition

–by Brett Kruschke

Moorhead has been knocking loudly all season long, surpassing Dundas for the top spot in the June 7 poll. Two weeks later, their sterling 13-0 record has them as the unanimous choice for the MBA’s best Class B team:

AARON OLSON – Shakopee

1. Moorhead (13-0) Off to unbelievable start, and won Victoria tourney with wins over Blaine, Coon Rapids, and Lyon’s Pub.

2. Miesville (8-3) Won five in row beating Elko and Dundas and looking tough

3. Dundas (9-4) Tough loss to Miesville, but will bounce back

4. Cold Spring (9-4) Only losses have been very close games

5. Elko (16-7) Played a lot of games so some losses could be due to not all guys there

6. Shakopee (9-5) beat Chaska and Chan, but took loss to Chaska Sunday

7. Chaska (9-7) Good solid team that came back from two Section losses to beat Shako

8. Blaine (15-7) got 3rd in tough Victoria tourney last weekend

9. Chanhassen (9-3) Young group of good players

10. Coon Rapids (10-6)/Forest Lake (11-4) Tied for 10th as both teams deserve it coming from Metro Minny

JAMIE HEIPEL – Blaine

1 ) Moorhead –  IMO best team in State no matter which class.

2 ) Dundas – Nobody really stepped up to pass them in my poll.

3 ) Elko – A few bad losses is still only a loss, many games provides a few clunkers.

4 ) Cold Spring – They will pick it up, tough standard they have set.

5 ) Shakopee – Some nice wins and tourney losses, especially close games don’t mean much.

6 ) Coon Rapids – Great showing in Victoria Tournament, they are a good team.

7 ) Forest Lake – Very solid squad, pitching will be the question. They have the horses to score with anyone.

8 ) Miesville – Have not hit stride yet, getting there.

9 ) Chaska – Some nice wins, not toughest schedule but quality team.

10 ) Savage – Excellent team but trying to find information on them to recognize how good they are is way too much work. Website…

ERIC KRAUSHAR – Chanhassen/Chaska

1. Moorhead Brewers (13-0) – went 3-0 in Victoria last weekend, allowing one total run to Lyon’s Pub, Blaine and Coon Rapids

2. Miesville Mudhens (8-3) – own victories over Minnetonka, Dundas and Elko. Nos. 2 through 10 all pretty close, so the Mudhens make the big jump for me!

3. Dundas Dukes (13-5) – nice wins over Austin and Minnetonka this month, but are just 4-3 in June

4. Blaine Fusion (15-7) – nice showing in Victoria, topping Beaudreau’s and Lyon’s Pub. Also went 2-1 over two days the previous weekend with wins over Carver and Veseli.

5. Shakopee Indians (9-5) – swept a weekend against Region 3B versus Chaska (1-0) and Chanhassen (4-1) June 10 and 12. Did fall to Chaska, 8-1, on Father’s Day. Next four before the 4th versus 3B teams.

6. Coon Rapids (10-6) – recent wins over Blaine, Chanhassen, Victoria, and Beaudreau’s move them into the top 10.

7. Chanhassen Red Birds (9-6) – knocked off Chaska in a one-run game, but have missed out on some quality wins with recent losses to Coon Rapids, Shakopee, Jordan, Hampton, and St. Louis Park.

8. Chaska Cubs (9-6) – bats came alive in 9-1 win over Shakopee. Also beat Cold Spring 1-0 in their home park. Recent losses to Chanhassen (4-3), Carver (2-1), Shakopee (1-0) and Savage (7-4)

9. Cold Spring Springers (9-5) – started with a 7-1 record, but is 2-4 since with losses to Chaska, Sauk Rapids, Sobieski, and Nisswa. Did beat Savage, 2-1.

10. Elko Express (16-7) – own nice wins over Faribault, Coon Rapids, Green Isle, and Prior Lake, but are just 6-5 since May 30. They are 2-2 against Section 1, with losses to Dundas and Miesville.

MATT MAREK – Champlin

1. Moorhead (13-0) – Hoo boy, what a start! Tons of quality wins and a title at the very tough Victoria Tournament. Seems like the Brewers are on a mission this year!

2. Dundas (13-5) – Tough to drop a team after beating Minnetonka, especially with how well my shoulder is progressing, but I have to reward Moorhead for the work they have done.

3. Miesville (7-3) – Two nice wins over Dundas and Elko in league play, with a blip on the radar in the form of the Minneapolis Angels.

4. Cold Spring (9-4) – A nice win over a Savage team that has some good wins on their schedule. All losses since last poll have come to quality opponents in Chaska, Nisswa and Sobieski.

5. Coon Rapids (10-6) – 6-1 since a 4-4 start. They are the big movers this week after beating Blaine and posting a strong showing at the Victoria Tournament.

6. Blaine (15-7) – Good wins and good losses (if there is such a thing) for the Fusion. That will happen with the schedule they play.

7. Forest Lake (11-4) – Won all the games they were supposed to on paper, with a pair of losses to Savage and Owatonna.

8. Chaska (9-6) – If the Cubs could’ve pulled out one more win, they’re probably moving up in my rankings. Good section win vs. Shakopee and a nice W over Cold Spring go along with losses to Shakopee, Savage and Chanhassen.

9. Shakopee (9-5) – Wins over Chaska and Chan plus a loss to Chaska in limited action over the last two weeks.

10. Elko (16-7) – A bit of an uncharacteristic loss to the forgotten child of Section 3B (Prior Lake). Couldn’t come through against quality opponents in Miesville and the Minneapolis Cobras. Also, your season stat line of the week comes from the Express: Dylan Thomas – 10 games, 9.2 IP, 1 H, 27 K/0 BB, 1-0, 1 SV, .033 BA against … and leads the team in HR … Are you serious!?

KELLY McMONAGLE – Moorhead

1.  Moorhead:  Victoria tourney winners over Lyon’s Pub, Blaine, and Coon Rapids
2.  Miesville:  recent wins over Section foes Elko and Dundas moves them up
3.  Dundas:  beat Minnetonka followed by loss to Miesville. Tough section to get through come playoffs
4.  Cold Spring:  up and down the last couple weeks with a split against Savage and Chaska in the Class B showdown, followed by losses to Class C powers Nisswa and Sobieski
5.  Elko:  tons of games against all classes with recent loss to Section rival Miesville
6.  Shakopee:  wins over Chanhassen and Chaska but followed up with a clunker loss to Chaska, 9-1, on Sunday
7.  Chaska:  split in the Class B showdown with Cold Spring and Savage then loss to Chanhassen and a thumping of Shakopee
8.  Coon Rapids:  good showing in Vics tournament, finishing 2nd, but loss to Anoka hurts
9.  Savage:  split in the Class B showdown with Cold Spring and Chaska. Couple wins in the Miller High Life tourney, losing to Plato in the semifinals
10.  Blaine: wins over Lyon’s Pub and Beaudreau’s in the Victoria tournament. Big game vs Coon Rapids on Thursday

On the radar:  Chanhassen, Forest Lake, and St. Cloud
