Class B rankings – July 7

Posted on July 7, 2014 by CJ Siewert

We’d like to welcome another elite Class B mind to the ranking committee – Matthew Marek of Champlin.

Matthew Marek – Champlin

1. Victoria – Tough to argue with a 15-1 record…would’ve been fun to see their games against Moorhead and St. Michael (both rained out).

2. Chaska – SPAMtown champs and ridiculous run of 52 of 54 scoreless innings earlier this season.

3. Blaine – Top three spots are very much interchangeable in my opinion. A couple big roster deadline pickups will only help keep the Fusion machine rolling.

4. Moorhead – Only two losses have come to Champlin and to a First-Team All-Big East selection pitcher from Nimrod. They now add Bushland and Coste for the stretch run…yikes.

5. Shakopee – Posted a 15-6 record despite having a thin roster this year…Still plenty of talent on this team to make a run.

6. Cold Spring – I hear that Femrite guy is pretty good…

7. Dundas – After an 0-3 start they are 16-3 with a (current) eight-game winning streak.

8. Eagan – The one team I know the least about, but an 11-3 record off a 3rd place finish at state earns my vote.

9. Elko – Stumbled of late, losing three of five (albeit to three solid teams)

10. Forest Lake – Started out hot in league play with an 8-0 mark. Gemuenden and Schmidt have been two very nice additions to an already talented squad.

Outside looking in:

St. Michael – Really tempted to put them in, but a lack of games (7-1 from what I can see thus far) and a lot of rainouts forces my hand. One of the top hitting teams in the state in my opinion, but just like last year, pitching depth may be their Achilles heel at the end.
Austin – Wanted to put them in, but just can’t do it with a 7-7 record. Definitely a solid club with all losses coming to quality opponents

Jamie Heipel – Blaine

1. Victoria

2. Blaine – added power left handed pitcher and D1 outfielder before deadline, 20-2 overall

3. Moorhead

4. Chaska – nice run at Spamtown

5. Cold Spring – struggle away from home

6. Shakopee – great nucleus

7. Dundas – nice winning streak alive
