Class B Rankings: July 6 Edition

–by Brett Kruschke

The Miesville Mudhens have ripped off 12 straight wins, but it’s no match for the 16 consecutive victories for the undefeated and back-to-back unanimous No. 1 team in the Class B poll, the Moorhead Brewers:

AARON OLSON – Shakopee

1. Moorhead Brewers (16-0) – wow, unbelievable run so far. Have a tourney this weekend in Shakopee/Jordan in the Coors Light Classic. Play undefeated Blue Earth on Saturday and Shakopee Sunday.

2. Miesville Mudhens (16-3) – 12-game winning streak and looking tough.

3. Blaine Fusion (21-7) just got rained out against Shakopee Tuesday. Already 21 wins! Nice win over Coon Rapids.

4. Cold Spring Springers (14-5) Good run the last couple weeks, and have a tough weekend with Coors Light Classic in Shako/Jordan.

5. Shakopee Indians (12-6) sitting in 1st for Section 3 with a 5-2 record. Tough weekend ahead with short roster in the Coors Light Classic.

6. Elko Express (21-7) Big runs lead to a nice stretch of wins, including 15-0 versus Savage.

7. Dundas Dukes (16-5) They are sitting at 4-2 in Section play. Always tough pitching from the Dukes, plus a tough Section.

8. Chanhassen Red Birds (13-7) – Sit 2nd in the big Section 3 with a 4-1 record. Very talented young group of players.

9. Forest Lake Brewers (15-4) – Undefeated in the Metro Minny; looking very strong.

10.  Chaska Cubs (11-8) – had a very short roster in Austin for three losses. Have some big Section games the rest of July.

JAMIE HEIPEL – Blaine

1 ) Moorhead – staying consistent with my opinion of being the best team in any class.

2 ) Miesville – 12 consecutive wins keeps them strong in the two spot.

3 ) Shakopee – Playing very good baseball against solid competition.

4 ) Blaine – Won 11 of last 12 and 7-0 since last poll. Very rarely have had more than five regulars at game time. Very aggressive schedule against solid opponents.

5 ) Dundas – Cannot move them below this spot; nice record.

6 ) Forest Lake – Some really solid wins, pitching is holding tough and this makes them very dangerous with hitting taking a backseat to no team.

7 ) Cold Spring – Lost some tough games, won some tough games. They will be there in the end probably, as always.

8 ) Elko – Record as of late fell a tad, but playing aggressive schedule will be advantageous to some blips on the radar.

9 ) Savage – Solid team; not many games, so hard to have them higher. Some really good wins!

10 ) St. Cloud Beaudreau’s – Very solid squad who lost some players to higher level of ball; will recover nicely and they have been with solid opponents.

ERIC KRAUSHAR – Chaska/Chanhassen

1. Moorhead Brewers (16-0) – enter the July schedule unbeaten. They’ll have their hands full at Coors Light Challenge in Shakopee and Jordan this weekend.

2. Miesville Mudhens (16-3) – they keep passing each test, beating Eagan, Cannon Falls and Red Wing in a four-night stretch over the holiday weekend. Own 10-game win streak. 6-1 vs Region 1.

3. Dundas Dukes (16-5) – finished June with two wins on the field, two wins off the field (forfeits). Added a pair of early July victories and are rolling into a key stretch, which includes Miesville on Sunday. 4-2 vs Region 1.

4. Blaine Fusion (21-7) – piling up wins at an alarming rate, winning the final seven on the schedule in June. Beat up Coon Rapids 12-2 and defeated Isanti and Beaudreau’s in one-run games. 6-1 in Metro Minny.

5. Forest Lake (15-4) – perfect 7-0 against the Metro Minny, including four road wins. Defeated Coon Rapids 5-2 in late June. Circle July 15 in a showdown with Blaine.

6. Chanhassen Red Birds (13-7) – after a stretch of misses, the Red Birds had a big week with region wins on the road at Shakopee and Prior Lake sandwiched around a come-from-behind victory over Dassel-Cokato. 4-1 vs Region 3.

7. Shakopee Indians (12-6) – the early clubhouse leader in Region 3 at 5-2, with wins against all four other teams. Did drop a high-scoring affair to Chanhassen, 10-6, to finish month of June with 6-4 mark.

8. Chaska Cubs (11-8) – of their eight losses, three came with half of a squad in Austin. Big loss with Austin Lubinsky (5-0 record, four runs in 29+ innings) going down with broken foot. Eight of 12 games in July at home; nine of 12 vs Region 3.

9. Cold Spring Springers (14-5) – responded with a 5-1 record over the last two weeks, the only loss to the Moorhead Miners. Like Moorhead, big test this coming weekend in Shakopee and Jordan.

10. Elko Express (21-7) – since a 2-4 stretch, Elko has won six straight, scoring 76 runs in those games. Beat Savage 15-0 on the heels of 15- and 17-run efforts.

OUT: Coon Rapids (12-9) – lost three of five late in June, including key Metro Minny contests to Forest Lake and Blaine.
