Central MN Town Team Round-Up


Back for a third season at KNSI with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Victory League South, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County South teams this season and the upcoming schedule for each league including tournament and exhibition games. In addition the league standings thru out the season.


KIMBALL EXPRESS 8, EDEN VALLEY HAWKS 7  (4/17/2016 @ Kimball)

The Express came from behind to beat the Hawks in their first game of the season and first league game. The Hawks took a early lead and held it till the 9th inning when the Express rallied for four runs to earn the win. The Express actually got on the board first with a double by Brian Marquardt in the first inning to drive in two runs and the Hawks came back with five runs in the third inning and they added to their lead with two more runs in the fifth inning. The Express sent six to the plate in the eighth inning, after two hit bat men and a base hit they cut the deficit with two runs. In the ninth inning the Express sent eight batters to the plate, four singles, a walk, hit batter and an error led to four runs. With Jordan Joseph’s walk off single in the ninth to drive in the winning run.

Austin Ruehle led the way as he went 3-6 with a RBI, Jordan Joseph went 2-6 with 2 RBI’s and a walk and he scored a run. Brian Marquardt went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s, scored a run and a double. Matt Dingmann went 1-3, scored 2 runs, walked, hit by pitch and he had a RBI. Ben Johnson went 1-3 with 2 walks, Kyle Winter went 1-5 and he scored a run. Brooks Marquardt walked twice, scored a run and he had two RBI’s. Blake Boran was hit by a pitch twice and he scored 2 runs.

Zach Dingman started on the mound for the Express, he threw 3 innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 unearned runs and he had three strike outs. Andy Dingmann threw 4 innings, gave up 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 walk and he had four strikeouts. Matt Dingmann closed it out for the Express with 2 innings of relief, gave up 1 hit and he recorded two strikeouts.

For the Hawks, Matthew Pennertz went 1-4, scored a run and he had two RBI’s and Nathan Geislinger went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s. Alex Schumacher walked, had a stolen base and he had a RBI and Tanner Olean went 1-5 and he scored 2 runs. Ben Theisen walked and scored a run and Zac Schlangen scored a run. Nathan Geislinger started on the mound for the Hawks, he went four innings, gave up 3 hits, 2 runs, walked 6 and he had 2 strikeouts. Tanner Olean threw three innings, gave up 2 hits and he had a strikeout. Austin Schlangen took the loss with 1 1/3 innings of relief.


SPRING HILL CHARGERS 7,  LAKE HENRY LAKERS 4  (4/17/2016 @ Lake Henry)

The Chargers got 3 runs on the board in the top of the 1st and the Lakers put up 3 runs in the 2nd inning. It remained a tie till the 5th Inning, when the Lakers scored one to take the lead briefly. The Chargers responded with 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning and added one in the top of the 7th.

The Spring Hill Chargers topped league rivals the Lake Henry Lakers 7-4 in their first action of this young season. The Chargers were led by Shawn Schoenberg, as he went 3-5 with 3 RBI’s and Jamie Terres went 2-4, scored 2 runs, 2 doubles and he had 1 RBI. Nathan Terres went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt and one  RBI, Austin Schoenberg went 2-5 with a double, scored a run and a RBI and Louie Opatz went 2-3 and he scored a run. Austin Schoenberg started on the mound for the Chargers, he went 3 innings and Chris Spanier went 2 innings of relief. Lefty Louis Opatz threw 2 innings and Josh Olmschied closed it with 2 innings of relief.

The Lakers were led by Jason Kampsen, as he went 2-5 with a RBI and Josh Kampsen went 1-2 with a double, 3 walks and a stolen base. Shane Kampsen went 1-5 and he scored a run and Colin Spooner walked, scored a run and he had a RBI. Mitch Weidner went 1-3, he walked and scored a run and Caleb Burris went 1-4 with a stolen base. Ryan Wuertz went 1-2 and he scored a run and Matt Quade went 1-5. Jason Kampsen started on the mound for the Lakers, he went 3 innings and Mitch Weidner threw a pair of innings of relief. Matt Quade threw 2 innings and Shane Kampson closed it out with 2 innings of relief.

REGAL EAGLES 11,  ROSCOE RANGERS 5  (4/17/2016 @ Roscoe) 

The Rangers gave up 6 unearned runs in their first time outside for the season. Chris Beier started and threw 5 innings to earn the win. Nathan Meyer, led Regal of the County Line League with 2 hits including a double. The Rangers used four different pitchers in their first outing. The Rangers were led at the plate by Devon Savage, he had 3 hits, including 2 triples.


The Lakers put up eight runs in the fifth inning to win their first game of this young season. Tony Garding earned the win on the mound for the Lakers. Tim Voigt had a big 3 run home run and Mitch Wienke had 3 hits, including 2 doubles to lead the Lakers offense. The Lakers of the Central Valley defeated the Grovers of the Stearns County North League.

FARMING FLAMES 11, WILLMAR RAILS  7  (4/16/2016 @ Farming)

The Flames of the Stearns County South League defeated the Willmar Rails of the Corn Belt league11-7 in what was the first outing for both teams. The Rails did take an early 6-0 lead and that stood till the 7th inning when the Flames rallied for 6 runs, after sending 9 batters to the plate,  they had 5 hits in their half of the inning. The big hit was by Mitchell Theilen, he had a single to drive 2 runs. The Flames did put up four runs in the fourth, as they sent 8 batters to the plate, they had 2 hits, one hit batter and a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Theilen. The Flames used five different pitchers, including Chad Mergen, Zach Koltes and Brent Mergen. Brad Mergen threw 3 innings and he recorded 7 K’s, he didn’t give up a hit. Aaron Nett closed out the final two innings, he record 3 K’s and he didn’t surrender any hits.
