Watkins Clippers 5  Bird Island Bullfrogs  3 (Bird Island 8/7)

The Clippers topped the No. 1 seeded Corn Belt League team the Bullfrogs, behind the strong pitching performances by Taylor Nawrocki and Matt Geislinger. Taylor threw 8 1/3 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked 3 and he had 11 strikeouts to earn the win. Lefty Matt Geislinger earned the save by getting 2 strikeouts for the last two outs of the game. The Clippers found themselves down 3-2 in the top of the 9th inning. With 1 out, Ryan Tri got a base hit, with two outs Kevin Kramer got a single and Lincoln Haugen got a RBI single. Then with runners at 1st and 2nd Dan Berg hit a double to drive in the games for the ahead runs! Lincoln Haugen went 2-4 with a double, sacrifice bunt, he scored a run and he had a RBI. Dan Berg went 1-3, with a double, he walked and was hit by a pitch and had 2 huge RBI’s.  Gary Peters went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run and Kevin Kramer went 1-3, he walked twice and he scored a run. Ryan Tri went 1-4 and he scored a run, Brandon Ashton had a RBI on a fielders choice and Adam Hiltner walked twice and he had a stolen base. The pitcher of record for the Bullfrogs was Dylan Gass, threw 2 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 6 hits, walked 2 and he had 3 strikeouts. Lake Kramer was their starting pitcher, he threw 6 innings, he gave up just 1 hit, walked 5 and he had 4 strikeouts. Dylan Gass went 2-4 with a sacrifice bunt and Riley Kramer went 1-1. Logan Swan went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Mason Clark was credited with a RBI on a fielders choice.

Raymond Rockets 9 Luxemburg Brewers 4 (Bird Island 8/8)

The Rockets topped the Brewers, backed by 7 big runs in the 3rd inning, only run was earned. The Brewers did commit 4 errors that they couldn’t overcome. Tyler Knott earned the win for the Rockets, he threw all 9 innings, he scattered 11 hits, walked 2 and he had 4 strikeouts. John Sawatzky went 2-3 with a sacrifice bunt for a RBI and he scored a run. Mike Jeseritz went 1-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and Jason Meyer went 1-3 with a RBI and he walked. Brett Swanson went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored a run and Austin Smith went 1-3 and he scored a run. Justin Koenen went 2-5 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Kyle Knott had a big home run late in the game, he went 1-5 with 3 RBI’s.  Lefty Austin Klaverkamp was the pitcher of record for the Brewers, he went 2 1/3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, walked 3, had 1 strikeout and he surrendered 7 runs, of which 1 was earned. Sam Iten was awesome in his 6 2/3 innings of relief. He scattered 4 hits and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Chase Aleshire had a big day at the plate, he went 2-5 with 4 RBI’s and he scored a run. Sam Iten went 2-5 with a double and he scored and Nick Baker went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt for a RBI and he scored a run. Cory Wenz had a good game going 2-4 with a stolen base and Derrick Orth went 1-3 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Luke Harren went 1-4 with a walk and he scored a run and Ethyn Fruth went 1-4.

Milroy Yankees 7 Eden Valley Hawks 0 (Bird Island 8/8)

The Yankees topped the Hawks behind the pitching of Nathen Duetz. He threw all 9 innings, he scattered 11 hits, walked 1 and he had 15 strikeouts. Eric Dolan had a big day, he went 4-5 with 2 doubles and a RBI and he scored a run. Adam Mathowetz had good game going 2-4 with 2 big RBI’s and Matt Bauer went 2-5 with 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Derek Rasmussen went 1-4 with a double and Chris Verdoes went 1-5 with a triple and he scored a run. Aaron Mathiowetz went 1-4 with sacrifice fly and he scored a run and Darrick Allpress went 1-5 and he scored 2 runs. Austin Kretsch and Colton Peterson both went 1-4, each getting a base hit. Dan Hanson was the pitcher of record for the Hawks, he battled the Yankees for all 9 innings. He gave up 15 hits and he had 3 strikeouts. Tanner Olean had a great game, as he went 3-4 for part of their 11 total hits. Matt Pennertz, Dan Hanson and Josh Schumacher all went 2-4. Jake Anderson and Austin Schlangen both went 1-4 for the Hawks.  They left 10 runners stranded on the bases, as they were unable to get any timely hits.

Kimball Express 6 Sacred Heart Saints 2  (Bird Island 8/8)

The Express topped the Saints, behind lefty Zach Dingmann’s pitching performance. He threw 7 2/3 innings, scattered 5 hits, walked 1 and he had 7 strikeouts. The Express went with their 18 year old shortstop to close it out. Jordan Joseph threw 1 1/3 innings of relief, he recorded 2 big strikeouts. Brothers Brooks and Scott Marquardt, had good games, to help lead the way for the Express. Brooks went 2-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Scott went 1-4 with a triple and a RBI. Another 18 year old Austin Ruehle went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and he had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. Their 3rd 18 year old also had a good game, Zach Kuefler went 1-4 with walk, he scored 2 runs and he had a RBI. That third member again of the trio of 18 year olds, Jordan Joseph, had a good game, he went 2-4 and he scored a run. Veteran Kyle Winter went 2-4 with a RBI, Adam Beyer went 1-4 and Ben Johnson went 1-4 and he scored a run. Matt Koenen was the pitcher of record for the Saints, he threw 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, walked 1 and he had 7 strikeouts. Steve Jakel threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 3 hits and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Jeff Hinderks went 1-4 and he scored a run and Trent Novotny went 1-2, with a sacrifice bunt, he walked and scored a run. Jeff Hebrink went 1-4 with a RBI, Nate Hebrink went 1-4 and Tom Lippert went 1-3.

Luxemburg Brewers 5  Bird Island Bullfrogs 3 (10 Innings) (Bird Island 8/8/15)

The Brewers topped the No.1 Seed Bullfrogs on a walk off home run by Isaac “Zeek” Matchinsky in the bottom of the 10th inning! Mitch Ergen was the starting pitcher for the Brewers, he threw 8 innings, he scattered 10 hits, surrendered 3 runs, walked 2 and he had a strikeout. Then lefty Austin Klaverkamp entered the game, wanting to redeem  himself after his first game of the day. He was smoking, as he struck out 4 batters in his 2 innings of relief to earn the win. Nick Baker had a big game, he went 3-4 with a triple and a double and 3 big RBI’s! Derrick Orth went 1-3 with sacrifice bunt and he walked. Cory Wenz went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and he score a run and Colton Fruth went 1-4. Luke Harren walked and he a sacrifice bunt and Austin Klaverkamp walked. Brad Gass was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs, he went 7 innings, scattered 7 hits, walked 4 and he had a strikeout. Jesse Bjur was the pitcher of record, he threw 2 1/3 innings and he recorded 5 big strikeouts, before he gave up the home run. Elliot Serbus had a good game, he went 2-4 with a double, he walked and scored a run. Tyler Hebrink went 2-5 and Mark Neubauer went 2-3 with a RBI. Dylan Gass went 1-3 with a homerun and he walked and Lane Stadther went 1-5 with a RBI. Logan Swann went 1-5 and he scored a run and Riley Kramer went 1-5. The Bullfrogs finish the season with a overall 23-11 with and the League Corn Belt Playoff championship. 

Sacred Heart Saints 7 Eden Valley Hawks 5 (Bird Island 8/9)

The Saints topped the Hawks on a walk off home run by Ryan Hebrink, to end the Hawks season. Jeremy Hendricks was the winning pitcher for the Saints, he scattered 11 hits, walked 2 and he had 14 strikeouts. Jeff Hinderks was 3-4 and he scored 2 runs and Tom Lippert went 2-4 and he scored a run. Ryan Hebrink went 1-5 with his 2 run homer for 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Darren Eschen went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Mitch Treml walked and he had a stolen base. Dan Hanson was the starting pitcher for the Hawks, he threw 1 2/3 innings and Tanner Olean came in for 6 2/3 innings. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1 and had 9 strikeouts. The Hawks actually out hit the Saints, as they collected 11 hits, but were short possible just one timely hit. Austin Schlangen had a good game, he went 3-5 with a RBI. Tanner Olean had a very good game, he went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and he walked and had a stolen base. Josh Schumacher went 2-5 and he scored a run and Jake Anderson went 1-5 and scored a run. Jeff Haag went 1-5 and he scored a run and Matt Pennertz went 1-5. Chad Hesse went 1-4, he scored and he was hit by a pitch. The Hawks season comes to an end after having a very strong finish to their regular season and league playoffs.

Watkins Clippers 2  Raymond Rockets 1 (Bird Island 8/9) (Qualify for State)

The Clippers topped the Rockets, behind the outstanding pitching performance by Matt Geislinger, to punch their ticket to the state tourney. He threw all 9 innings, he gave up just 3 hits, walked 2 and he had 14 strikeouts. Gary Peters had a big game, as he went 2-4 with 2 big base hits to drive in the Clippers runs. Adam Hiltner had a good game, he went 1-2 with a triple, walked had 2 stolen bases and he scored 2 runs, he was also hit by a pitch. Kevin Kramer had a good game, at his lead off spot, he went 2-4 with a walk. Dan Berg walked twice, Lincoln Haugen walked once and Matt Geislinger walked. John Sawatsky was the pitcher of record for the Rockets. He threw 8 innings, he gave up just 4 hits, walked 6 and he had 8 strikeouts. Calvin Kosminskas threw the final inning, he gave up a hit and he had a strikeout. Jordan Smith went 1-4 with a double and a sacrifice bunt and Brandon Madsen went 1-3. Justin Koenen went 1-4, Kyle Knot and Calvin Kosminskas both walked 1 time.

Kimball Express 3  Milroy Yankees 2 (Bird Island 8/9) (Qualify for State)

The Express topped the Yankees to punch their ticket to the state tourney, behind the pitching of Ben Johnson and Jordan Joseph. Ben threw a great game, going 8 innings, he gave up just 4 hits and he had 11 strikeouts to earn the win. Jordan Joseph entered the game, for the 2nd time during the weekend and he was lights out, he induced a ground ball for the first out and he struck out the last two batters, to earned the save. Once again it was the trio of 18 year olds that led the way with Austin Ruehle went 1-3 with a RBI, Zach Kuefler went 1-3 with a RBI and a run scored and Jordan Joseph went 1-4 with a RBI. Scott Marquardt went 1-4 with a triple and he scored a run. Adam Beyer went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run, Kyle Winter went 1-3 and Brooks Marquardt walked. Austin Duetz was the pitcher of record, he threw 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, walked 1 and he had 8 strikeouts. Colton Peterson went 1-3 with a RBI and Aaron Mathiowetz went 1-4 and he scored a run. Matt Bauer went 2-4, Andrew Mathiowetz had a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he had a stolen base and Austin Kretsch a sacrifice bunt for a RBI.

Sartell Muskies 10 Hinckley Knights 0 (7 Innings) (Hinckley 8/8/15)

The Muksies topped regional foe, the Knights in 7 innings behind the great pitching performance of Adam Wenker. He threw 7 innings, he gave up just 2 hits, walked 2 and he had 6 strikeouts. They pounded out 17 hits, brothers Adam and Brian Schelinger had good games. Adam went 3-4 with a double, scored a run and he had 2 RBI’s and Brian went 3-5 and he scored 2 runs. Also brothers Jake and Luke Sweeter had good games. Jake went 1-4 with a double, walked and scored a run and he had 2 RBI’s. Luke went 1-2 with a sacrifice fly and a RBI. Andrew Deters had a big game in his lead off role, he went 2-4, with a double, walked and scored a run and he had RBI. Jace Otto had a great game, going 3-4 with a stolen base, sacrifice bunt, he scored a run and he had a RBI. Veteran Tim Burns he a good game, going 2-4 with a sacrifice fly, walked and scored a run and he had a RBI. Rob Voshell had a good game, he went 2-4 with a RBI.

Foley Lumberjacks 11  Sartell Stone Poneys 3  (8/8/15)

The Lumberjacks topped the Poneys in their first region game; behind the pitching of Mike Plante. He threw 8 2/3 innings and he scattered 6 hits and he surrender 2 unearned runs. They put runs on the scoreboard in each of the first 6 innings, building the margin to 10-1. Mike Plante and Tony Stay each had 3 hits apiece. Brothers Mitch and Sam Keeler both had 2 hits apiece and crafty veteran Mike Beier had 2 RBI’s. 

Sartell Muskies 28  Chisago Lakes 3  (7 Innings) (8/9/15) (Qualify for State)

The Muskies topped Chisago Lakes to qualify for the state tourney, they pounded out 24 hits on the day. John Schumer was the pitcher of record, as he scattered 5 hits, walked 2 and he had 5 strikeouts. Travis Weaver threw 1 inning of relief, he pitched to three batters, Grant Mackenthun threw 1 inning and Shawn Schoen threw the final inning, he recorded 2 strikeouts. Andrew Deters had a awesome game, he went 5-7 with a home run and 4 RBI’s and he scored 6 runs.  Jake Sweeter had a great game, going 4-6 with 2 doubles for 7 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Brian Schellinger had another very good game, going 3-3 with a double, sacrifice bunt, scored 2 runs and he had 4 RBI’s. Adam Schellinger had good game, he went 3-5 with a walk, scored 3 runs and he had a RBI. Chase Otto went 3-6 with 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs and Luke Sweeter went 1-2 with a double, 2 walks, he scored 3 runs and 2 RBI’s. Cody Partch went 1-3, with 2 sacrifice flies, scored 2 runs and he had 3 RBI’s. Adam Wenker went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Paul Schumer went 1-3 with a RBI and Tim Burns walked and scored a run and he had 2 RBI’s. The Muskies are now overall 27-1 on the season.

Mora Blue Devils 7 Foley Lumberjacks 2  (Qualify for State)

The Lumberjacks dropped their second game of the region to one of the highly rated teams in the state. Cameron Jurek, who was just named the MVP of the Region Champion Foley team had a single to drive in both of the Lumberjacks runs. Draftee from St. Joseph, Greg Anderson was the pitcher of record for the Lumberjacks. They need to win just one more game to punch their ticket to the state tourney. They should have all their legion players available for the upcoming weekend.

The Lakers came up short against Victory League rivals the Lakers in their quest for a state tourney birth. The pitcher of record was Kyle Collins, he threw 6 innings, he gave up 8 hits, 3 walks and he had 4 strikeouts. Holdingford draftee Derek Thielen threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 2 hits, walked 1 and he had a strikeout. Adam Harlander threw 1 inning, he walked 1 and he had 2 strikeouts. Matt Meyer had a good game, as he went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Caleb Curry had a good game at the dish, he went 2-4 with a double, stolen base, scored a run and he had a RBI. Cody Stich went 1-4 and he scored a run, Rick Hendrickson walked twice, had a stolen base and he scored a run and Adam Harlander walked.

Foley Lumberjacks 11 Sartell Stone Poneys 3  (Hinckley 8/8/15)

The Stone Poneys dropped their first regional game to the Lumberjacks, the pitcher of record was Jeff Amann. Jeff threw 4 1/3 innings, he gave up 6 hits, walked 6 and he had 2 strikeouts. Draftee, Kevin Auth threw 4 2/3 innings, he gave up 4 hits, walked 1 and he had 7 strikeouts. Travis Moreno led their offense, as he went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and he walked. Rob Garbrielson went 2-5 with a triple and he scored a run. Sean Tillman went 2-4 and he scored and Spencer Timm went 1-3. Jim Gabrielson walked twice and he scored a run and Pat Dolan walked and he was hit by a pitch.

Hinckley Knights 12  Sartell Stone Poneys 4 (Hinckley 8/9/15)

The Stone Poneys season came to an end, as they dropped their second regional ball game to the Knights. Steve Fish was the pitcher of record for the Poneys, he threw 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, 3 walks and he had 5 strikeouts. Rob Gabrielson threw 3 innings, he gave up 6 hits and he had 2 strikeouts. Jake Wenzel had a good game for the Poneys, he went 3-5 with a RBI  and Josh Rothbun went 2-4 with a double. Rob Gabrielson went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Travis Moreno went 2-3, he walked and he scored 2 runs. Austin Timm walked and scored, Jordan Clitty walked, Jim Gabrielson walked and Spencer Timm was hit by a pitch and he had a fielders choice for a RBI. The Stone Poneys compiled a 12-15 overall record and they were the Eastern Minny West League playoff champions.
