Sauk Rapids Cyclones 12 Brainerd Bees 1 (Brainerd 7/29)

The Cyclones topped their league and regional rivals, the Bees behind the pitching of Nate Friehammer and David Kroger. Nate threw 5 innings, gave up just 3 hits and he had 6 strikeouts. David threw 2 innings of relief,  gave up 1 hit and he had 2 strikeouts. Tyler Long had a great night at the plate, he went 3-4 with a two run homer, for a total of 4 huge RBI’s and he had a stolen base. Matt Meyer went 2-4 with 2 doubles, he walked and he scored 2 runs. Paul Schlangen had a very good night, as he went 4-5 with a RBI and he scored 3 runs. Adam Wippler went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Tyler Bjork went 1-4, he walked and he scored a run. Jesse Lavoi went 1-3, walked and he scored 2 runs and Joel Haller went 1-2 with a RBI and  walked twice. Hansen Divine was the pitcher of record for the Bees, he threw 5 innings. Burrell Flanagen went 2-4 with a double and Blake Peterson went 2-4.

Cold Spring Springers 11 Brainerd Bees 1 (5 Innings) Marshall Legion Park 8/1

The Springers topped league and regional foe the Bees with a 15 hits attack and the pitching performance by Reed Pfannenstein. Reed threw 4 innings, he scattered 4 hits, walked 2 and he had 10 strikeouts. Jack Arnold closed out the game, he threw the 5th inning. Zach Hinkemeyer had a great day, going 3-4, he scored 3 runs and he had a RBI. Garrett Fuchs went 2-3 with a RBI and he scored a run and Zach Femrite went 2-3, walked, had a stolen base and he had a RBI. Joe Dempsey went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Chris Butala and Ben Griffin both went 1-2 with a RBI and Drew VanLoy went 1-2 and he scored a run and he had a RBI. Jack Arnold went 1-3 with a double and Jeron Terres went 1-2 with a walk. Blake Peterson was the pitcher of record for the Bees. Joel Martin had a good game, he went 2-2 with a walk and Blake Peterson went 1-3 and he scored. Tom Fairbanks, Bryce Flanagan, Mitch Patrickes and Tanner Stegtein all had base hits.

Luxemburg Brewers 7 Eden Valley Hawks 0 (Luxemburg 8/1)

The Brewers topped league rival the Hawks for the North Central Valley Championship, behind the pitching performance by Austin Klaverkamp. He threw 6 innings, gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and he had 6 strikeouts. Casey Underwood threw 2 innings of relief, he walked 5 and he had 4 strikeouts. Derrick Orth threw the final inning, he recorded 1 strikeout. Derrick Orth had a big day at the plate, he went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Colton Fruth went 2-5 with a RBI and Austin Klaverkamp went 2-4 with a RBI. Isaac Matchinski had a good day, he went 3-5 and scored 2 runs and Chase Aleshire went 2-5 with a double and scored a run. Nick Baker went 2-3 and Cory Wenz walked twice and he scored a run. Austin Schlangen was the pitcher of record for the Hawks, Josh Schumacher and Jake Anderson both had base hits for the Hawks. The Brewers and the Hawks will both move on to play in the Region 11C tournament this coming weekend.

Kimball Express 7 Watkins Clippers 5 (Watkins 8/1)

The Express topped their rivals, the Clippers, for the South Central Valley Championship, behind the pitching performance by Zach Kuefler.  He threw 7 innings, gave up just 2 hits, 1 run and had 2 strikeouts. Brooks Marquardt threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 3 runs and he had a strikeout. Jordan Joseph earned the win with 1 inning of relief, he closed it out, he gave up 2 hits, walked1, 1 run and he had a strikeout. Brian Marquardt had a big day at the plate, he went 3-5 with a double and 2 big RBI’s. Adam Beyer also had a good day at the plate, he went 3-5 with a double and a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Jordan Joseph went 1-5 with a RBI and Ben Johnson went 1-4 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a run. Scott Marquardt went 1-4, scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base and Brooks Marquardt went 1-5. Watkins Clippers 9 St. Augusta Gussies 1 (Watkins 7/29)

The Clippers behind a pair of lefties, Matt Geislinger and T. J. Fericks, topped their CVL rivals the Gussies in a regional qualifier. Matt threw 8 innings, he allowed just 3 hits, walked 2 and he had 9 strikeouts. T. J. threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up 3 hits and he had a strikeout. The Clippers were led by several good performances, Lincoln Haugen went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Adam Hiltner went 2-4 with a RBI, he walked and he had a stolen base. Lefty Dan Berg had a good night at the plate, he went 2-4 with RBI, walked, scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Ryan Tri went 2-3 and Miah Kramer went 1-3 with 2 big RBI’s and he was hit by a pitch. Kevin Kramer went 1-4 with a double and he was hit by a pitch and Matt Geislinger went 1-3 with a double, walked twice and he scored 2 runs. Eden Valley Hawks 8 Pearl Lake Lakers 4  (Eden Valley 7/29)

The Hawks topped CVL rivals the Lakers to secure a spot in the regional tournament, behind the pitching of lefty Danny Hanson. He threw 7 innings, he gave up just 4 hits, walked 2 and he had 2 strikeouts. Austin Schlangen threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Nate Geislinger had a good night at the plate, he went 2-4 with a RBI and walked. Jeff Schumacher went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked and scored a run. Tanner Olean went 1-4, he walked and scored 2 runs and Matthew Pennertz went 1-1, walked twice and he scored 2 runs. Trent Norgren went 1-2, Austin Schlangen went 1-1 and Zach Schlangen, walked and he scored a run. Derek Schlangen was the pitcher of record for the Lakers, he threw 4 2/3 innings, he gave up 3 hits, 5 walks, 6 runs and he had 2 strikeouts. Tony Garding threw 2 1/3 innings of relief, he gave up  5 hits, walked 2 and he surrendered 2 runs. Steve Krippner threw 1 inning of relief,  gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Raymond Rockets 4  St. Augusta Gussies 3  (Bird Island/Region Play-In 8/1)

The Rockets topped the Gussies in the regional play-in game, behind the pitching of Tyler Knott, he threw 6 1/3 innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 2 and he a strikeout. Zach Nelson threw 2/3 inning of relief and Calvin Kosminskas threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 1 hit, walked 3 and he had 2 strikeouts. Justin Koenen went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI and Calvin Kosminskas went 2-4 with a RBI. Austin Smith went 2-4 and Zach Nelson went 1-4. Travis Laudenbach was the pitcher of record for the Gussies, he threw 6 2/3 innings, he gave up 6 hits, walked 3 and he had 3 strikeouts. Aaron Fruth threw 1 1/3 relief, he gave up a hit and he had a strikeout. Aaron Fruth had a home run for the Gussies. Nate Laudenbach went 1-5 with a double and he scored a run and Nate Gwost went 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and a RBI. Marcus Lommel walked and he had a stolen base and Matt Skaja went 1-3. Sacred Heart Saints 4 Pearl Lake Lakers 3 (11 Innings)(Bird Island/Region Play-In 8/1)

The Saints topped the Lakers in the regional play-in game, behind the pitching of Jeremy Hinderks. He threw all 11 innings, he gave up 6 hits, walked 2 and he had 9 strikeouts. Nate Hebrink went 1-5 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and Tom Lipert went 1-4, with a double and a RBI, he walked and scored a run. Mitch Trenl went 1-4 with walk, stolen base and he scored a run. Darren Eschin went 1-4 with a walk and 2 stolen bases and Jeff Henderks went 1-5. For the Lakers, Tony Garding was the pitcher of record, he threw 3 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits, walked 1 and he had 2 strikeouts. Logan Schramel, was the Lakers starter, he threw 8 good innings. He gave up 3 hits, walked 4 and he had 2 strikeouts. Sam Schlangen went 1-4, he walked, had a stolen base and he scored 2 runs. St. Augusta Gussies 3 St. Nickolas 2 (St. Augusta 7/27) (LATE RESULTS)

This was an elimination game; the Gussies topped their CVL rivals the Nicks. The

Gussies were led by the pitching performance by Travis Laudenbach, he threw the whole game, scattering 5 hits, walked 1 and he had 7 strikeouts. Nate Laudenbach had a big day, he went 2-3 with 2 solo home runs.  Zach Laudenbach went 2-4 and Brady Grafft went 2-4. Nate Gwost went 1-4 with a stolen base and Dan Swan went 1-4 with a stolen base. Marcus Lommel went 1-5, Adam Gwost walked and was credited with a RBI and Dustin Schultzenburg walked and he stole a base. Jon Hofer was the pitcher of record for the Nicks, he threw the whole game, he gave up 9 hits, walked 2 and he had 4 strikeouts. Jon Hofer also went 1-4 with 2 stolen bases and Brett Hofer 1-3 and he scored a run. Derek Kuechle went 1-2, scored a run and he was hit by a pitch. Travis Hanson went 1-3 with a walk, Tanner Anderson went 1-4 and Jeff Lutgen had a sacrifice bunt.

Foley Lumberjacks 8 Litchfield Blues 4 (Litchfield 8/1)

The Lumberjacks topped their league rivals the Blues for a spot in the Region 1C tournament. Veteran right hander Mike Beier again had a great pitching performance. He threw all 9 innings,  scattered 10 hits, walked 1 and he had 9 strikeouts.  Cameron Jurek had a great day, going 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Mike Plante went 2-5 with 2 RBI’s and Tony Stay went 3-5. Sam Keeler went 2-5 and Rich Rasmussen had a great day going 3-5 with a RBI. Jordan Beilke went 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s and Mike Beier went 1-5. Kaleb Kalkbrenner was the pitcher of record for the Blues, he threw all 9 innings, he gave up 16 hits, walked 1 and he had a strikeout. Jake Schultz had a good game going 2-4 with a RBI and Toby Chellin went 1-4 with a double. Jake Johnson went 3-4, Erick Hulterstrum went 2-4 and Lucas Johnson went 1-5 and Derek Koll went 1-4. The Lumberjacks will now advance to the Region 1C tournament.

Sartell Muskies 13 Foley Lumberjacks 1 (Sartell 8/2)

The Muskies topped league rival the Lumberjacks for the Sauk Valley League championship. The Muskies were led by the pitching of Adam Wenker, he threw 6 innings, gave up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and he had 12 strikeouts. Tim Burns had a great day, he went 3-4 with a  2 run homer and a double for 2 RBI’s. Andrew Deters went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s, he scored a run and had a stolen base. Tyler Zelinski had a good day going 2-3 with 3 big RBI’s and he scored 2 runs and he was hit by a pitch. Jace Otto went 1-4 with a double, he walked and scored a run and Luke Sweeter went 1-4, he walked and scored 2 runs.  Adam Schellinger went 1-2, walked and he scored 2 runs and was hit by pitch. Cody Partch went 1-2, walked twice, scored 3 runs and had a RBI. Paul Schumer went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt and he was hit by a pitch and Jake Sweeter went 1-4 and he scored a run. Nisswa Lighting 7 Avon Lakers 2 (Pierz Legion Park 8/2)

The Lakers dropped their 2nd round of Region 8C play, Derek Thielen (Draftee from Holdingford) was the pitcher of record for the Lakers. He threw 5 1/3 innings, he gave up 9 hits, walked 3 and he had 4 strikeouts. Troy Wunderlich, threw 2 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits and he walked 2. Adam Harlander threw 1 inning, he gave up a hit, walked 2 and he had 3 strikeouts. Riley Voit had a good day at the plate, he went 3-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Caleb Cury and Carter Holthaus both went 1-4 and Adam Harlander and Zac Tomsche both went 1-3. Rich Hendrickson was hit by a pitch, had 2 stolen bases and he scored a run. The Lakers will play in the region next week, they need one win to qualify for the state tournament.

Lastrup Lakers 9 St. Stephen Steves 1 (Pierz Legion Park 8/2)

The Steves, found themselves in a tight game until the top of the 7th inning, when the Lakers scored 8 runs. Nick Krippner was the pitcher of record, he threw 7 innings, gave up 6 hits, walked 3 and he gave up 2 runs, he did record 5 strikeouts. Austin Guggenberger faced six batters in the 7th inning and Andy Stolt threw 2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, and 1 run. Austin Guggenberger went 2-4 and Bo Schmitz went 2-4 for the Steves. Jason Slivnik went 2-4 and Dylan Hollenkamp went 1-3 with a double. 

Avon Lakers 5 Randall Cubs 0 (Pierz Legion Park 8/1)

The Lakers advanced in the region with their win over the Cubs, behind the pitching performance of Kyle Collins. He threw all 9 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked 1 and he had 4 strikeouts. Matt Meyer had a good day, going 1-2, he walked twice, scored a run and he had a RBI. Riley Voit went 1-2, he had 2 stolen bases,  walked and he had a sacrifice fly for 2 big RBI’s. Carter Holthaus went 1-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly for a RBI. Rick Hendrickson had a good game in his lead off position, he went 2-4, he had a stolen base and he scored a run. Caleb Curry went 1-3, he walked and 4 big stolen bases and he scored a run. Cody Stich went 2-4 with a stolen base and scored a run and Adam Harlander went 1-4.

The Steves dropped their first round of the region to defending region and state champions the Skis. Blake Guggenberger was the pitcher of record, he gave up 6 hits, walked 6 and he had 4 strikeouts. Sam Neeser, Bo Schmitz, Brandon Waldvogel and Cody Wolhart all had base hits for the Steves.

The Poneys topped league rival in their first round of playoffs, in a game they found themselves behind 4-0 at one time. Jeff Amman’s pitching performance, helped lead them, he threw 6 innings. Jeff gave up 8 hits, walked 5 and he had 5 strikeouts. Rob Gabrielson threw 3 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits and he recorded 2 strikeouts. The Poneys pounded out 15 hits, Rob Gabrielson went 2-6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Austin Timm had a big day, he went 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s, he walked and he scored 3 runs. Jim Gabrielson went 2-5 with a sacrifice fly and 2 RBI’s and he had a stolen base. Jake Wenzel went 2-6 with a double, 1 stolen base and he scored a run. The Poneys won their second game of the playoffs and the Eastern Minny West League championship. They pounded out 13 hits and the pitching performances by Steve Fish, Rob Gabrielson and Jeff Amann earned them the championship. Steve threw 4 1/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits, walked 3, 5 strikeouts and he gave up 7 runs. Rob Gabrielson went 3 2/3 innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 2, he had 3 strikeouts and  gave up 4 runs. Jeff Amann went 1 inning to preserve the win, he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Jake Wenzel had a big game, he went 2-6 with a double and 3 RBI’s, he scored 3 runs and he had a stolen base. Exhibition Games:

Cold Spring Springers 9  Maple Lake Lakers 5 (Maple Lake 7/30)

It was No. 2B vs. No. 2C on a game that was just scheduled the night before. The pitching matchup featured the Lakers Jeremy Schmidt (8-0 and 1.29 ERA) on the season and former MVP vs. Zach Femrite. Zach also the MVP the past two seasons, but he had only threw 4 innings in the past month. Zach did throw 7 innings, to earn the win, he scattered 7 hits, gave up 2 earned runs, had no walks and he had 12 strikeouts. Chris Butala threw the 8th inning he hit a batter, he faced 4 batters in the inning. Jack Arnold closed it out, he did give up 2 hits and 2 runs. The Springers scored early and often, one big blow was by Joe Dempsey, he hit a 385 foot shot to left center field for a 3 run homer. Joe went 2-5 for the game and Chris Butala went 1-4 with a big single to drive in 2 runs, he also scored a run. Zach Hinkemeyer went 2-4, he scored a run and he had a stolen base. Jack Arnold not only closed out the game on the mound, he went 1-3 with a run scored and a sacrifice fly for a RBI. Jeron Terres had a good evening, he went 2-4 and he scored a run and Alex Jungels went 1-2, walked twice and he scored 2 runs. Ben Griffin had a sacrifice fly for a RBI, Garrett Fuchs walked twice and Zach Femrite walked once. Jeremy Schmidt was the pitcher of record for the Lakers. He gave up 7 hits, walked 4 and he had 5 strikeouts. Todd Fuller came into the game in the fourth and he closed it out for the Lakers, he did record 7 strikeouts, gave up 1 hit and 1 walk. Riley Decker led the Lakers going 2-5 with 2 doubles for a RBI and he scored a run and Luke Fobbe and Bert Marsnik both went 2-5 and Todd Fuller went 1-4 with a double for a RBI. 

St. Cloud Beaudreaus Saints 5 Minnetonka Millers 4 (St. Cloud Putz Field 7/31)

The Saints topped the No. 1 ranked Class A team in Minnesota, the Millers behind the pitching performance of Nick Maiers, he scattered 6 hits, walked 1, hit 1 batter and he had 5 strikeouts. Tommy Auger went 1-3 with a double and Ryan Schneider went 1-3 with a walk, stolen base, he scored and he had a RBI. Nick Hengel went 1-3, he scored 2 runs and he was hit by a pitch. Brian Minks, was hit by a pitch and he scored for the Saints.

St. Cloud Beaudreaus Saints 14 Monticello Polecats 3 (7 Innings Monticello 8/2)

The Beaudreaus Saints topped a good Polecat team, behind the pitching of Brad Haag. He threw 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits and he didn’t walk anyone.  Brian Minks threw 1 inning of relief, he gave up a hit and he walked 1 batter. Dave Koenig threw 1 inning of relief he recorded 2 strikeouts. Jeff Fasching had a huge night at the plate, he went 3-5 with a home run, triple and a sacrifice fly for 7 big RBI’s.  Tommy Auger went 3-4 with 2 doubles, he walked and he scored a run. Steve Neutzling went 2-4 with a double, he walked and he stole 2 bases. Brian Minks went 2-5 and he scored 2 runs and Nick Maiers went 2-4, he walked and scored 3 runs. Will Spaniol went 1-4 with a double and scored a run and Ryan Schneider went 1-3 , he walked twice and scored 3 runs and he had a stolen base.

Marshall A’s 7 Cold Spring Springers 5 (7 Innings) (Marshall Legion Field 8/1)

The A’s used seven different pitchers with Leo Zerr earning the win and Jordon Kontz earning the save. A big 6 run 2nd inning was the difference, as the A’s built a 6-2 lead after the 2nd inning. Ben Korger went 1-4 with a double for 2 RBI’s and Andrew Kinney went 2-3 with a home run for 2 big RBI’s. Drew VanLoy was the pitcher of record, after giving up those runs in the 6th inning, he battled the A’s for the 3rd and 4th innings, to keep them off the score board. Jack Arnold threw the final 2 innings, he gave a run, 1 hit, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Joe Dempsey had a big day, he went 2-4, with a 2 doubles, he scored a run and he had 1 RBI. Ben Griffin had a very good day going 2-3 with 3 big RBI’s. Jeron Terres went 3-2 with a double and Garret Fuchs has a great day going 3-4, scored a run and he had a RBI. The Springers really did well considering the were missing their entire starting outfield and their No. 2 pitcher Justin Thompson for the day. Their No. 1 Pitcher wasn’t available after going 7 innings Thursday evening. They battled one of the top teams in the regional on a pretty even basis.

Marshall A’s 4  Brainerd Bees 0  (7 Innings) (Marshall Legion Park 8/1)

The A’s topped regional foe the Bees, behind the pitching of Colton Smit, he threw threw the entire game, he gave up 4 hits and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Andrew Kinney and Austin Stubbs both had good games, as they went 2-3 with a RBI. Jordan Kontz went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and Connor Winkelman went 1-3 with a run scored. Ben Korger, Derek Buysse, and Ben Sanders all got base hits for the A’s. The pitcher of record for the Bees was Tim Martin, he threw the entire game, he gave up 10 hits, no walks and he had 3 strikeouts. Tom Fairbanks, Bryce Flanagan, Tim Martin and Zach Winger all he hits for the Bees.
