LAKEWOOD LEAGUE ROUND UP

Cold Spring Springers 5  Sauk Rapids Cyclones 3  (Sauk Rapids 7/22)

The Springers topped Lakewood and Regional rivals the Cyclones behind the pitching of Zach Femrite and Jack Arnold. The Springers remain unbeaten in regional and league competition to date with one league game and one regional game remaining on the regular season schedule. Zach Femrite took the mound, for the first time in nearly a month. He faced 14 batters, walking 1 and he hit one and he recorded 4 strikeouts, to earn the win. Jack Arnold threw 5 innings of relief, he gave up 4 hits, walked 2 and gave up 3 unearned runs, to earn the win. Jack is now 4-1 on the season for the Springers. Chris Butala came thru early in the game with a big double to drive in 2 runs to give the Springers the lead. Jeron Terres also added a pair of runs going 2-4 for two RBI’s. Zach Femrite went 2-2 and he scored a run, he was replaced by Drew VanLoy in the 5th inning and Drew had a big double to drive in a run and he scored a run, he went 1-1. Justin Thompson went 1-3 with a pair of walks and Garrett Fuchs went 2-4 and he scored a run. Joe Dempsey went 1-4, Jack Arnold went 1-3, Tyler Geislinger went 1-4 with a walk and Alex Jungels had a successful bunt for a sacrifice. Bryce Gapinski was the starting pitcher for the Cyclones, he scattered 8 hits, walked 1 and he had a strikeout. Jeff Hille threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up 2 hits and he had 1 strikeout. David Kroger went 1-3 and he scored a run and Derek Cagle went 1-3 and he scored a run. Kyle Henkemeyer and Scott Geiger both went 1-4. Tommy Wippler walked twice and Evan Warnert walked once. Tyler Long was credited with a RBI on a fielder’s choice. Right fielder Charlie Oltz made two great catches, that likely kept possibly 2 to 4 runs off the score board for the Springers.

St. Cloud Beaudreaus Saints 12 Brainerd Bees 1 (7 Innings) (Brainerd 7/22)

The Beaudreaus Saints topped their Lakewood League and regional rival the Bees, behind the pitching performance by Brad Haag. He threw all 7 innings, he scattered 6 hits, walked 2 and he had 10 strikeouts.  D. J. Schleicher had his best game of the season for the Saints, he went 3-5 with 2 RBI’s. Ryne Gregory also had his season best performance, he went 3-5 with 2 RBI’s. Ryan Schnieder had yet another good performance, as he went 3-4 with a walk and 2 RBI’s. Joel Martin was the pitcher of record for the Bees. Tom Fairbanks went 2-3, Eric Martin went 1-2 and Paul Augustinak went 1-1.

St. Cloud Beadreaus Saints 13 Sauk Rapids Cyclones 5 (Sauk Rapids 7/26)

The Saints were led by the pitching of their young right hander, Tommy Auger, he threw 5 innings to earn the win. He gave up 2 hits, walked 3 and he had 6 strikeouts. Nick Denny threw 3 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 4 hits, walked 3 and he had 7 strikeouts. Waylon Bemboom led the Saints as he went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Jason Kotschevar had his best game of the season, as he went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s and walked. Chad Hockmeyer had a big game, going 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s and he walked. Nick Maiers had a good game going 4-6 he had a double and he scored 4 runs and Jeff Fasching went 3-6 and he scored 3 runs. Brian Minks went 1-5 with a walk, Steve Neutzling went 1-6 and Ryan Schneider went 1-6. Andy Thayer was the pitcher of record for the Cyclones, he threw 3 2/3 innings, he gave up 13 hits, walked 2 and he had a strikeout. Jeff Hille threw 5 1/3 innings of relief and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Charlie Oltz went 2-4 with a RBI and a stolen base and Adam Wippler went 2-2 with a RBI. Andy Hinkemeyer went 1-2 with a double, hit twice by pitch and he scored 2 runs. Scott Geiger went 1-2 with a double, 2 stolen bases and he scored 2 runs. Derek Cagle went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked, David Kroger went 1-5 and he scored a run and Evan Warnert went 1-4.

Kimball Express 3 Watkins Clippers 0 (Watkins 7/27)

The Express topped the No. 1 seeded Clippers behind the pitching performance of lefty Zach Dingmann. Zach threw all 9 innings, he gave up just 5 hits, walked 5 and he had 7 strikeouts. It was scoreless till the top of the fourth, when Scott Marquardt led off with a triple and he scored on Ben Johnson’s sacrifice fly to right field. The score remained 1-0 till the top of the 9th inning when Scott Marguardt led off with a double and two batters later, Ben Johnson hit a home run to right center to give the Express 3 big runs. Ben Johnson was 1-4 with a 2 run homer and a sacrifice fly and Scott Marquardt was 2-4 with a triple and a double, scored 2 runs and he had a stolen base. Adam Beyer walked and Brian Marquardt was hit by a pitch. The Express left just 4 runners on base.  Taylor Nowrocki was the pitcher of record for the Clippers, he threw 8 innings, he gave up just 2 hits, walked 1 and he had 11 strikeouts. Matt Geislinger closed out the last inning giving up 2 hits and he recorded 1 strikeout. Lincoln Haugen was 2-2 with a sacrifice bunt and he walked. Brandon Ashton went 1-4 with a double and Ryan Tri went 1-2. Gary Peters went 1-2 with a sacrifice bunt and Kevin Kramer walked and he had a stolen base. The Clippers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th and they left 9 base runners stranded.

St. Augusta Gussies 3 St. Nickolas 2 (St. Augusta 7/27)

This was an elimination game; the Gussies topped their CVL rivals the Nicks. No other information was made available my either manager.

Luxemburg Brewers 4 Eden Valley Hawks 1 (Luxemburg 7/27)

The Brewers topped the No. 3 seeded Hawks behind the pitching performances by Mitch Ergen and Sam Iten. Mitch threw 6 2/3 innings to earn the win, he scattered 5 hits, walked 5 and had 10 strikeouts. Sam Iten threw 2 1/3 innings to earn the save, he walked 1 and he had 3 strikeouts. Colton Fruth had a big game, he went 1-3 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he walked and had a stolen base. Sam Iten went 3-5 and he scored a run and Chase Alshire went 1-4 and he had a stolen base. Derrick Orth went 1-2 with 2 walks and a stolen base and Isaac Matchinsky walked 2 times and scored a run. Luke Harren walked,  and he had a big sacrifice fly ball for a RBI. Dan Hansen was the pitcher of record for the Hawks, he threw 4 innings, he gave up just 3 hits, walked 3 and he had 2 strikeouts. Hayden Willner went 4 innings and he gave up just 2 hits, walked 4 and he had 2 strikeouts. Dan Hanson was 1-4 with a RBI, Nathan Geislinger went 2-4 and Chad Hesse went 2-4.

Pearl Lake Lakers 8 Cold Spring Rockies 6 (Watkins 7/27)

The Lakers topped the No. 2 seeded Rockies 8-6 in an elimination game. Logan Schramel was the pitcher of record, he threw 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. Ton Garding threw 2 1/3 to earn the save for the Lakers. Logan Schramel had two doubles for 2 big RBI’s and Steve Krippner hit a 3 run homer in the 5th inning and he had a run scoring single for 4 RBI’s. Chris Lardy was the pitcher of record for the Rockies. Josh Porwoll went 3-3 with a triple and a RBI and David Jonas went 2-4 with a double.

Foley Lumberjacks 11 Clear Lake Lakers (Foley 7/22)

The Lumberjacks topped their league rivals the Lakers in the elimination game of their league playoffs. The Lumberjacks were led by their veteran right hander, Mike Beier. He threw 6 innings to earn the win, he gave up just 3 hits, walked 1 and he had 6 strikeouts. Mike Plante threw 2 innings of relief, he recorded 1 strikeout and Mitch Keeler threw the final inning, he gave up a hit. Mike Beier also help his own cause, as he went 1-4, he walked, scored a run and he had a RBI.  Sam Keeler had a great game, he went 3-5 scored 2 runs and he had 3 RBI’s. Tony Stay had another good game, going 2-5, he had a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Mitch Keeler went 2-5 with a double for 2 RBI’s and he scored a run. Mike Plante went 1-5, walked and he scored 2 runs and Hunter Hamers went 1-5. Jordan Bialke went 1-4, he scored a run and he was hit by a pitch and Dick Cousins went 1-1 and he scored 2 runs. Sartell Muskies 9 Foley Lumberjacks 5  (Sartell 7/25)

The Muskies topped the league rival, the Lumberjacks in what was a very close game. After 7 innings the game was tied 2-2 and then the Muskies sent 11 batters to the plate, they collected 6 hits and they scored 7 runs. Lefty Johnny Schumer threw 8 innings to earn the win, he scattered 8 hits, no walks and he had 8 strikeouts. Jake Sweeter had a great game, as he went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI’s and he walked once. Jace Otto had a good game, going 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and he walked and scored a run. Luke Sweeter had good day at the plate, going 2-5 with a RBI and he scored a run. Adam Schllinger went 2-4 with a double, walked and he scored a run and Brian Schllinger walked 2 times and he scored 2 runs and was credited with a RBI. Cody Parth had a good day, going 2-4 and he scored a run and Tim Burns walked and scored a run and he also had a stolen base. Sam Keeler was the pitcher of record, he battled for 7 1/3 innings, he gave up 11 hits, walked 7 and he had 3 strikeouts. Mitch Keeler threw the final 2/3 of a inning, he gave up 2 hits and he had a strikeout. Sam Keeler went 2-4 with a big 2 run homer for 2 RBI’s and Tony Stang went 2-4 on the day with two singles. Brandon Moen went 1-3 with a triple, a sacrifice bunt for 2 RBI’s. Jordan Bialke went 1-4 and he scored 2 runs, Mike Beier went 1-5 and he scored a run. Litchfield Blues 2  St. Joseph Joes 1  (St. Joseph 7/25)

The Blues topped their league rival the Joes in a very well played ball game. Kaleb Kalbrenner was the winning pitcher for the Blues, he threw all 9 innings. He scattered 10 hits, walked 1 and he had 8 strikeouts. Jacob Johnson had a big day at the plate, as he went 4-5 with a double and he scored both runs. Eric Hulterstrum had another good game, going 2-5 with a double and a RBI. Dylan Koll went 1-4 with a RBI single and Josh Johnson went 1-3. Greg Anderson was the pitcher of record for the Joes, he gave up 8 hits walked 1 and he recorded 4 strikeouts, he also threw the entire game. Ethan Carlson had a good game at the plate, he went 2-5 with a double and Alex Kendall had a good game, as he went 2-4 and he made numerous good plays at shortstop.  Zach Overboe went 2-4 and Brandon Bloch went 1-4. Aaron Rocheleau went 1-4 and R. J. Albers went 1-3 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI. The Joes left 9 base runners stranded, so there many chance thru out the game for both teams to score.

Sartell Muskies 16  Litchfield Blues 3 (7 Innings) (Sartell 7/26)

The Muskies topped their league rivals, the Blues with their 21 hit attack and the pitching performance by Adam Wenker. Adam threw 8 innings, he scattered 8 hits, and walked 3. David Deminsky threw 1 inning and gave up a hit, 1 walk and he had a strikeout. Jake Sweeter had an awesome game, he went 3-4 with a double for 6 RBI’s, he also had a sacrifice fly and he scored a run. Tim Burns went 3-5 with 3 big RBI’s and he scored 3 runs. Brian Schellinger went 4-5 and scored 3 runs from his lead off position. Rob Voshell had a big game, going 3-4 with a sacrifice fly, 1 walk, 1 RBI and scored 3 runs. The Lakers topped League rival the Steves for the No. 1 seed from the South division behind the strong pitching of three arms. Adam Harlander earned the win, he threw just 2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, no walks and he had 2 strikeouts. Kyle Collins earned a stop, he threw 4 innings, he gave up 3 hits, walked 1 and he had 3 strikeouts. Cody Stich threw the final inning and he gave up 2 hits. Matt Meyer had a great game, he went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s, walked, scored 3 runs and he had a stolen base. Riley Voit went 2-5 with 2 RBI’s, scored 2 runs and he had 2 stolen bases. Richmond Royals 6  Roscoe Rangers 2  (Roscoe 7/26)

The Royals topped their Stearns County South rivals behind the pitching performances of Andy Bauer and Luke Jokela. Andy threw 8 innings, he record 8 strikeouts and Luke threw the ninth inning and he recorded a strikeout. Singles by Alex Budde and Brent Ruegemer in the 3rd led to 2 runs and in the 5th inning they scored another run on a single by Brent Reugemer and 3 runs in the 9th, started by a double by Kyle Budde and a single by Adam Backes drove him in and Dusty Adams single drove in Adam. Alex Budde finished the game going 3-4 and he had a sacrifice and Brent Ruegemer went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Kyle Budde went 1-4 with a double and a RBI and Adam Backes went 1-3 with a RBI. Cole Schmitz went 1-5 and Dustin Adams had a big game, going 3-4 with a walk and a sacrifice for a RBI.

The Poneys dropped a game to the League rivals, the Knights. Jeff Amann was the pitcher of record for the Poneys, he threw 7 Innings. He gave up 12 hits, walked 6 and he had 4 strikeouts. Rob Gabrielson threw 2 innings of relief, he gave 1 hit, walked 2 and he had a strikeout. Dan Gaughan had a good game, going 2-4 with a double and he scored a run. Josh Rathbun went 2-5 and Jim Gabrielson went 1-4 with a double and a RBI and he walked once. Jake Wenzel had another good game at the plate, he went 2-3, walked twice, scored a run and he had a stolen base. Mora Blue Devils 18 Sartell Stone Poneys 6 (Sartell 7/21)

It just wasn’t the Stone Poneys night, as they dropped their game to one the top teams in their region and possibly the state. Travis Moreno was the pitcher of record for the Poneys, he threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 hits and he had a strikeout. Brandon Reinking threw 3 innings of relief and Specner Timm threw 2/3 of an inning. The Poneys issued 15 walks and  committed 7 errors was their down fall, they were tied 4-4, going into the 7th inning. Jake Wenzel had another good game at the dish, he went 2-5 with a double and a RBI and he walked and scored 2 runs. Jim Gabrielson went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he walked twice and scored a run. Jeff Amann went 1-4 with a RBI and he walked and Spencer Timm went 1-4, he scored 2 runs and he was hit by a pitch. Josh Rathbun went 1-4 with a walk, Dan Gaughan went 1-5 with a RBI and he walked. The Poneys came up short against a regional rival the Knights, after a big rally of 5 runs in the 8th inning. Steven Fish was the pitcher of record, he threw 5 1/3 innings, he gave up 11 hits, walked 4 and he had a strikeout. rob Gabrielson threw 3 2/3 innings of relief, he recorded 2 strikeouts. Cold Spring Springers 14  Blaine Fusion 1 (7 Innings) (Blaine 7/24)

The Springers topped Class B rivals the Fusion of Blaine in 7 innings, 14-1. They had a huge second inning, scoring ten runs. The Fusion was ranked 4th in the last Class B State poll and they came into the game with a 29-7 record. Drew VanLoy got the call for mound duties, he threw all 7 innings, he scattered 6 hits, he didn’t issue any walks and he had a strikeout. Drew’s record is now 5-0 on the season, he also aided his cause at the plate, he walked and scored a run and he was credited with a RBI. Garrett Fuchs had a great night at the plate, as he went 2-5 with 3 big RBI’s and he scored a run. Joe Dempsey had another good game at the plate, he went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s and he walked and scored 2 runs. Zach Femrite continues to contribute a great deal in the designated hitters role, he went 2-2 with a double and he walked twice and scored 2 runs. Alex Jungels had a big night at the plate, he went 2-3 with a base clearing triple and he had a double for 4 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Jeron Terres went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Eric Loxtercamp went 1-4 with a walk and he scored 2 runs.
