Belle Plaine hosting Gerry “Mize” Meyer Night on July 24

After 53 years of dedicated service to amateur baseball in Belle Plaine, the surrounding areas, as well as throughout the state of Minnesota, Gerry “Mize” Meyer will be recognized Friday, July 24 at Belle Plaine’s Tiger Park when the host Tigers take on River Valley League Central rival Jordan at 7:30 p.m.

The Belle Plaine Baseball Association is hosting Gerry “Mize” Meyer Night with a brief ceremony recognizing Meyer’s accomplishments over the past five-plus decades.

Highlights of Meyer’s years involved in amateur baseball:

*         President of BPBA for 20+ years

*         Manager an dplayer on the Belle Plaine Town Team for the late 1950’s to the early 1970’s

*         President of both the Carver Central and River Valley Leagues

*         Main driver and leader on many ballpark improvements at Tiger Park in Belle Plaine – the main one being the building of the current grandstand facility.

*         1997 inductee to the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall-of-Fame

*         2012 Mike Downs Memorial Award winner. This award is presented annually for outstanding service to Minnesota Amateur Baseball.

*         Co-Chair of a number of Minnesota Amateur Baseball Tournaments hosted by Belle Plaine
