An Open Letter from Waseca’s Tink Larson

–by Tink Larson, as posted to his Facebook page on 4/22/16

As many of you know, the baseball grandstand at Waseca recently burned down. I want to take a moment and thank everyone for the support we have received. It has been tremendous and I can’t thank everyone enough.

The baseball grandstand was more than just a grandstand. There were eight rooms under the grandstand. Two locker rooms, two bathrooms, two storage rooms, a shower room and a concession stand.

In the locker rooms, the floors were carpeted, we had cubicles for the players, we had flat screen TV’s in both rooms, air conditioning units in both rooms, refrigerators, microwaves, a gas grill, table and chairs to eat steaks on after games. It was like home for the ballplayers.

We also lost the field maintenance equipment, which was all owned by myself. That included a $40,000 Toro Groundsmaster mower, a $20,000 infield groomer, a $12,000 reel mower, a riding lawn mower, a sod cutter and an edger, plus other maintenance items.

The city has committed to rebuild the grandstand and the rooms below it, but it is going to be expensive.

I will have to replace the field equipment on my own.

A large number of people have asked where they can make a donation. There are two ways to donate:

1. If individuals, or organizations, wish to donate to the Grandstand Rebuilding Project they can do so by using this link, which goes to the city of Waseca website, and click on the Donate button at the bottom of the page:

2. If individuals, or organizations, wish to donate to the Field Equipment Replacement Project they can send a check to:
Waseca Baseball Association
501 7th Ave NE
Waseca, MN, 56093.

Please feel free to pass this on to others. If you have any questions, please ask me. Thanks for the support and we look forward to playing ball at the field again yet this spring.

Thank you so much, even if you are just thinking of us at this time.
