2nd Annual Town Ball Classic set for July 23

By CJ Siewert

After a successful inaugural event last summer, 1500 ESPN announced today that it will again put on the Town Ball Classic, hosted at the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field. The second annual event is set for Saturday, July 23 and as it did last year, will feature three games – one for each class. This year’s games include:

Class C: Green Isle Irish vs. Hanska Lakers

Class B: Austin Greyhounds vs. Cold Spring Springers

Class A: Minnetonka Millers vs. Stockmen’s Irish

“It’s really weird to think that an event as cool as the Town Ball Classic would not only become reality but that it would become an annual event,” said Chris Reuvers, who turned the dream into a reality last year. “Town baseball in this state means a lot to me because of what it has done for me and I will always be someone who not only tries to preserve it but also make it thrive for the next generation.”

Last season, the Town Ball Classic raised approximately $40,000 for the Twins Community Fund, which has the mission to “enrich local and regional communities by providing resources for the healthy development of children and families through an association with baseball, softball and the Minnesota Twins.” Tickets last year were $10 and more information on this year’s event will be announced soon.

“Having the Hubbard family, station management at 1500 ESPN, and the Minnesota Twins fully support this event and want to continue doing this event means everything to me,” Reuvers said. “The reaction I have received from each one of the teams and the feedback from others in and around town baseball has been so great. I wish we would be able to accommodate each and every team and player to be able participate in this event but the reality is that only six teams get that chance. The goal is to be able to showcase as many teams and regions of the state as possible and show people just how special town baseball in the state of Minnesota is.”
